It never ceases to amaze me how many people in the Evangelical community think that these kinds of arguments are persuasive. The version that Sam defends is a composite God. He thinks that he can make sense of plurality and unity by appealing to composites without realizing that it forces logical contradictions on several levels. You cannot consistently appeal to the Bible as evidence or support for your beliefs without first being committed to the principles of reason in order to make sense of the data contained in the Bible. Moreover, the fact that something makes sense to you is not a justification for what you believe. As you know or should know, there is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. The doctrine of the Trinity (DT) makes sense to a lot of people on one level because they either don't fully understand the doctrine, or they do not understand the logical implications thereof. If the logical implications of the DT entail logical contradictions, then said doctrine is untrue by definition. And if the Bible is infallible, then it cannot teach the DT. To illustrate, it makes sense to see plurality and oneness in composite entities. We can see that an egg has a shell, a yolk, and albumen (what we call egg whites when cooked). There is one egg but three parts. Likewise, we can see that when we make a frame, put handlebars, tires and a seat on it, we have a bicycle. There is one bicycle but many parts. Sam Shamoun uses these types of illustrations to defend his version of monotheism and the deity of Jesus. Nonetheless, it forces those who profess composition in God to affirm a logical contradiction on some level. First, if these illustrations are analogized to God, then God is the whole, and the persons of the Trinity are parts. Thus, instead of each person being fully God, each person is part of God. The logical contradiction would then be: Each person is God, and each person isn't God. Second, all composites, being assemblages of parts, are logically posterior to their parts and are thus dependent on them for their explanation, actuation and conservation. If God is composite, then God is dependent on something other than what He is in order to be what He is. And this forces an adherent to affirm another contradiction: God is independent and God is dependent. Against these objections, a Trinitarian may argue that “God” is the divine essence, and since there is only one divine essence, each person can be fully God without multiplying the essence. However, that is outright tritheism (belief in three Gods). You and I have the one human essence, but we are two human beings. You are an instance of the human essence, and I am an instance of the human essence. Essence instantiation is multiplication. If you have three instances of the apple essence, you have three apples. Thus, three instances of the God essence are three Gods. And herein is another logical contradiction: There is one God, and there isn't one God. To avoid tritheism, a Trinitarian will insist that the persons aren't separate; they are rather _distinct_ in one divine substance (metaphysical body). But if that is the case, then we're back to a composite Godhead wherein the one metaphysical body of God is composed of three parts: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. On every level, the DT ends up being a self-canceling concept.
