Fiber Optics | STOP lightning damage from Cable Modem | How I protected my customer's network
Here's a creative solution that I used to keep my client's network from getting zapped by lightning through their cable modem service. They had lightning damage several times and nothing I tried seemed to help, until NOW!
I intercepted the patch cable that runs between the cable modem and their network switch and converted it to a fiber optic connection. That way, energy from any lightning strikes can not travel from the cable modem to the rest of their network equipment.
I purchased a Gigabit Network Media Converter, (2) SFP adapters and a fiber optic cable to protect their network. I later changed out the Media Converter with a 6-Port SFP capable gigabit switch because the cheap $21 Medi...

    Hi Jason I’ve done everything that you said and it had been resetting and has been stuck at 99% for around 16/18 hours I’ve left it on overnight and all that what should I do the computer is 8 years old and is a gaming computer

      Hi! How big are the hard drive(s) in the computer? Are they mechanical drives or SSDs? Large (4TB+) mechanical hard drives can take a VERY long time to complete the Secure Erase process. The hard drive activity indicator light should be lit up solid while the drive is being secure erased. If the PC has high-capacity mechanical hard drives, let it run for a few more hours to see if it will finish. If one or more of the hard drives are failing or have errors, the process may not complete due to the errors on the drive. Let some time go by and then write me back. Thanks! -- Jason

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell 13 часов назад

      It sounds like something went wrong or there are some errors on the SSD drive. It should have only taken 30-90 minutes to secure-erase. You can try restarting the PC and hopefully it will let you get back to the Windows Desktop. You can try running the "CHKDSK C: /F" command I mention in this video to see if it helps: ruclips.net/video/EWvt5OtZ1e4/видео.htmlsi=41VnL_v-njUvzfPc&t=19 Once the drive has been scanned, you can try running the "Reset this PC" program again to see if it will finish. Worse case, you can use another computer to create a Windows 10/11 Installation Media flash drive, boot the PC to it and then perform a Windows "clean install" to reload a fresh copy of Windows. Make sure you have saved everything you need from the drive before erasing the partitions. For Windows 10: ruclips.net/video/bP03Y-l9NOM/видео.html For Windows 11: ruclips.net/video/ZMKl9wBJYD0/видео.html Hopefully some of this info will be helpful! -- Jason

      Hi! I haven't seen that before. Did it look like the "Reset this PC" program finished running properly? Did you choose the "Remove everything" option? If you didn't use the "Remove everything" option, its possible that the "S" account was on there before you ran the program and the reset procedure left that account on there because the "Keep my files" option was used. -- Jason

      I think I did but maybe I did something wrong. I don't want that unknown user S . Can I get rid of that and have the pc like I bought it with the same exact windows version without the updates or any of updates with the rest this pc option?

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell 13 часов назад

      Some PC's have a special partition on the hard drive that allows you to restore the *original* factory image. You can search the manufacturer's website for your PC model to find out which function key to press when you turn the computer on to get that program to run. If you bought the PC 8 years ago, the PC will end up with the original 8-year old version of Windows. The "Reset this PC" program is capable of restoring a clean/blank copy of the "current" version of Windows (if you use the Local Install option) or it can download the latest version from the Microsoft Update Servers (if you use the "Cloud download" option). Another option would be to pull up the user manager in the Windows Settings / Control Panel, locate the unwanted "S" user account and click the Remove button to remove the account and it's related files. Hopefully this info helps! -- Jason

    Do you need to reset the pc first before clean install? what i mean by reset pc is using method go Settings > Update and Security > Recovery > Reset this PC or you can just do instantly like in the video? I was having some issue or problem on my pc and i trying to figure it out how to solve it and the way i just did is i already do the "Reset this PC" and the issue still in my pc. So i think doing clean install will solve my problem i guess? Oh btw can you use hard disk external or portable to create installation media i dont have the usb flash drive or flash disk and because i remember when i try to create installation media on my hard disk external that have around 250 or 500 gb size capacity it turn become 30 gb and change the icon or something i was panicked but then i figure it how to turn it back but it deletes all file on that hard disk external

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell День назад

      @hillahub & @Alter-tm2wp Hi! The Windows Media Creation utility will only create a bootable 8GB+ USB flash drive or it can burn a bootable DVD-R or DVD-RW disc that contains the files you will need to perform the clean install of Windows. You can also use it to download .ISO image, but .ISOs files are not directly bootable without modifications from 3rd party programs. Unfortunately there is not a way to have it make an external hard drive bootable/usable as the Windows Installation Media drive. hillahub -- The issue on your PC might be hardware related since running the "Reset this PC" program didn't solve the problem. You can try performing a Windows 10 "Clean Install" but the problem might remain. I was going tell you to run the CHKDSK command but I remembered that in the video I had you delete all of the partitions off of the drive. Doing that creates a fresh volume/file table, so that would not apply. BestBuy.com and OfficeDepot.com have flash drives on sale for under $6 / $8 so you might want to consider purchasing one to complete the probject. Hopefully this information helped and I wish you good luck with getting everything running well again. Thanks -- Jason

    Hi, Im experiencing a really terrible situation, I dont have unallocated space drive to download it to. Im not sure what to do from here

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell День назад

      Hi! If your PC can still boot to the Windows desktop, you might want to consider running the "Reset this PC" program instead of performing a "Clean Install", because it is easier. I made a video that walks you through the process here: ruclips.net/video/zW2v3M_xFVY/видео.html If you're trying to perform the Windows "Clean Install" and the "Where do you want to install Windows?" screen does not display anything in the box, its possible that the Windows Setup program does not recognize the hard drive controller installed in your PC. I find that it is happening more frequently on newer Dell PCs. If that's what is happening (meaning the partition box is blank), you will need to download and save a copy of the hard disk controller drivers for your PC onto the Windows 10 Installation Media flash drive. It gets a little technical but this is what I've had to do. Here is a comment I sent out before that discusses downloading and installing the Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) drivers for PCs that require it to install Windows. Your PC might require different drivers but hopefully this will work for your situation: Begin quote: --- Hi! Your PC most likely requires you to load the "Intel Rapid Storage Technology" drivers during the Windows Setup process. Without the drivers, the Windows Setup program won't be able to access the hard drive controller. Some people have had luck disabling the Intel RST feature in their PC's BIOS/UEFI setup screen or sometimes switching the hard drive controller from RAID to AHCI solves the issue. If that is not an option, you'll need to download the Intel RST drivers and extract them to a flash drive that can be connected to the computer after the error message appears. To get the drivers, go to this link on another computer: www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/products/55005/technologies/intel-rapid-storage-technology-intel-rst.html On the page that appears, scroll to the very bottom and click on the "View Details" button next to the file that is appropriate to your computer. If your computer has an Intel i7-8700 processor for example, that would make it an 8th generation (the number in the 1000's digit). Click the "Download SetupRST.exe" button and the file will be downloaded and saved in your PC's Downloads folder. Open a command prompt window by clicking the Start Button and then type CMD.EXE and press enter. A command prompt window should appear. Navigate to your downloads folder by typing CD %userprofile%\downloads and press enter. Type the following command to make a new folder to extract the drivers into: MD C:\RST Next, enter this command to extract the driver files into that location: SetupRST.exe -extractdrivers C:\RST Now that you have extracted the driver files, copy the C:\RST folder to a flash drive. Connect the flash drive to the PC you are trying to install Windows 10 onto. When you reach the point where it says "A media driver your computer needs is missing", click on the Browse button and point it to the flash drive you just connected. You might also see a "Load Drivers" button that will take you to the right location. If there is an option to include subfolders, select it. The setup program will hopefully be able to locate the driver file(s) it needs to continue the installation. I hope these instructions help you get the problems solved. Sorry if it got a little technical but it is not an "easy" problem to solve. Let me know if you end up trying what I wrote above and let everyone know how it worked for you.

      @@JasonBagnell okay, so I've tried to follow step by step, but I've ran into the same driver issue. I was doing research to double check if I had the correct intel processor, but upon checking system information from the boot menu my desktops processor type is AMD Ryzen 5 3500u with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx. So, do I now have to search this specific processor up to get the correct driver download? To give better insight on my PC, because when I was searching it did say the model depended on the intel processor, it's an HP all in one 24-dp0014 (product#: 9ED65AA) I really do appreciate your assistance on this from the bottom of my soul because I've been trying so hard to fix my Desktop🥹

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell День назад

      Hi! Yes, I don't think the "Intel RST" chips are often used on motherboards that support AMD processors. I went to the HP Support website for your PC's model # and it said "There is no software or drivers available for your product", which is a little disappointing. I did see, however, a video that shows how to press the F11 key after you turn on the PC and it walks you through the process of running the "Reset this PC" program. Take a look and see if it works for you. Go to the following page: support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-all-in-one-pc-24-dp0000wa/model/38752923?sku=9ED65AA ... and then click on the first video at the bottom of the page that shows "Reset Windows 11 When Your HP Computer Does Not Boot". Follow the instructions in the video and hopefully it will get things running properly again. Let me know what happens! -- Jason

    Hey Jason great video ... i was curious if this process will reinstall the current version of windows or revert to factory install? Thanks

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell День назад

      Thanks! The "Reset this PC" program has two options. If you select "Local reinstall", you'll end up with a fresh copy of the same version of Windows the PC is running right now. If you select the "Cloud download" option, it will download the latest version of the Windows Setup files and when it's done, the PC will be running the latest version of that is available from Microsoft. The PC manufacturers sometimes put another copy of the "factory fresh" image of the PC in a hidden partition on the hard drive. The "Reset this PC" program does NOT use or access that factory image. I hope this answers your questions. -- Jason :)

    A bit curious. If you were to shut down and finish after the reboot before setting anything up, would the next user get to configure it all themselves like a new computer? It feels like it should be possible, but sometimes you never know if it would count as messing up half-way through the re-install and the computer gets angry.

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell 2 дня назад

      Hi! Yes, some people like to power off the PC towards the end of the process, when it starts asking you to join a network or enter a Microsoft Account. If you used the "Remove everything" and "Clean data: Yes" options, the hard drive will have been secure-erased by that point. Other people like to continue forward so they can reach the Windows desktop to make sure that 1) everything is working properly and 2) verify that none of their data is still on the PC. I made another video that shows how to use the BYPASSNRO trick to skip joining a network or being required to enter a Microsoft Account during the Windows setup process. See: ruclips.net/video/UdyP_bHSUlE/видео.html ... if the tricks shown in the "Reset this PC" video didn't work. Have a great day! -- Jason :)

    17:22 I have some couples errors like this in Windows Update i have to "Retry" them couples times to fix it, But some still error no matter what untill i restart my pc and update again and then those errors are gone. What happen? Should i worry about it.

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell 4 дня назад

      Hi! As long as the errors in the Windows Update program eventually go away, don't worry about it. Sometimes a particular driver or update will fail to install and then the Windows Update program might download and install another different driver/update that contains the files your system was looking for. When it's all done, you can pull up the Device Manager to see if your PC shows a "Clean" hardware list without any errors. Thanks -- Jason :)

    • @JasonBagnell

      Hi! I haven't see that before. Sometimes none of the partitions will appear if the Windows Setup program doesn't recognize the storage controller, but in your case it's not letting you select and delete the partition(s). If it simply won't work and you've tried everything and followed along like I showed in the video, you can run the "Reset this PC" program to reset the computer instead (If Windows is still bootable). Here's a video I made about how to do it: ruclips.net/video/zW2v3M_xFVY/видео.html Thanks -- Jason

      Hi! After the "Reset this PC" process is complete, it will boot back up and ask for you to connect to a WiFi/LAN network and it will want you to create or join a Microsoft Account. At that point, many people just power off the PC and then turn it over to the next owner (or just discard the PC) so that person can continue forward. As long as you selected the "Remove everything and "Clean data: Yes" options, the drive has already been erased at that point. So i remember when the reset was complete the laptop pin was removed the wallpaper everything was removed and cortona asked me to fill the region the administrator details etc. so by this should i consider that the reset was done fully like all the files were erased? @JasonBagnell 5 дней назад

      Hi! From what you described, it sounds like the "Remove everything" option was used. I'm not sure if you completed the Windows Setup program and made it to the desktop screen, but if you did and don't see any of your old files or folders, the PC should be good to sell or discard. Click on the Yellow folder at the bottom of your screen and then look at the contents of the Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Downloads folders and then click on "This PC" followed by C:. If any of your old files DO show up, you can run the "Reset this PC" program again and use the "Remove everything" and "Clean data: Yes" options. When it finishes resetting the computer, do NOT join your WiFi network or enter an E-mail address when prompted or some of your old data files might flow back into the PC through your Microsoft OneDrive account. I hope this helps! -- Jason

      Hi! When you run the program to create the Windows Media Installation flash drive, it does not ask which version of Windows you will be installing. The flash drive it creates can be used to install any version of Windows. Then, when you boot the PC to the flash drive, you will be asked which version of Windows you want to install. Since your PC was running the Home version of Windows before, make sure you select Home during the installation. I hope this helps! -- Jason :)

      Hi! On the Windows login screen, you can try clicking on the power button in the bottom right corner. A little menu with Restart, Shut Down, Sleep, etc. should appear. Hold one of the SHIFT keys on your keyboard and click on RESTART while holding SHIFT down. That should boot the PC into the Windows Recovery Console and you'll be able to find the "Reset this PC" in there. Hi, if your computer is older and has a mechanical hard drive, it can take 2-14 hours to complete if you selected the “Clean data: Yes” option. Larger (4TB+) drives will take longer for the program to securely erase every portion of the drive. If the computer has a newer SSD drive, the process happens in about 1/4 of the time. I hope this helps! - Jason

      Hi! If you're trying to wipe out / reset your PC and can't get logged into the Windows Desktop, try this: When the login screen appears, locate the power button in the bottom right corner and then hold down the Shift key while clicking the word "Restart". That should pull up the Recovery Environment where you'll be able to find the "Reset this PC" program in there. You might still get stuck at a password prompt later on but it's worth a try. Your PC's manufacturer might have a built-in Factory Reset program that will erase everything and restore the PC back to it's factory configuration. Do a Google search on your PC's model to see if that is available. If that doesn't work, you can performed a Windows "Clean Install", where everything gets erased and a fresh copy of Windows is loaded onto the drive. You'll need access to another computer and a 8GB+ blank flash drive to perform the Clean Install. Make sure that you don't have any files you need stored on the PC before deleting the partitions. Here are some videos I made about how to do it: For Windows 10: ruclips.net/video/bP03Y-l9NOM/видео.html For Windows 11: ruclips.net/video/ZMKl9wBJYD0/видео.html Hopefully some of this information will be helpful! -- Jason

      Hi! I just plugged in my external HDD and ran the Windows 10 Installation Media Creation Utility. The only options were to create a USB flash drive, DVD or ISO image file and it did not "see" my external drive as a destination. Your external SSD will probably act the same way. I'm sure there are methods that might make it possible but you'd end up downloading the Windows 10 .ISO file and then using a utility program like RUFUS to load it onto your USB SSD drive and make it bootable. Try Google searching the topic if that is something you're up to exploring. Thanks -- Jason :)

      Hi! I've never thought about that before. Windows "OEM" licenses stay assigned to the PC the manufacturer originally assigned them to. Windows "Retail" licenses, however can be moved to different hardware a certain number of times. Try doing a quick Google Search to see if there is a way to temporarily disable or deactivate your Windows License and something might turn up. Hello, i dont understand about deleting the partition part, how is it only 30 GB in your screen total after deleting everything? and what to do if i only want to delete my local disk C (because my data is in disk D and E)? or is it just not possible?

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell 10 дней назад

      Hi! I used a "Windows Virtual Machine (VM)" to create the video so that is why the C: partition only appears to be 30GB in size. The drive in your PC will be much larger. For you partition question: If you choose to NOT delete any partitions, you can select the PC's C: drive (usually the biggest partition on the drive) and the setup program will install the clean version of Windows into the C:\Windows folder AFTER it renames the original Windows directory to C:\Windows.old. The files from your previous Windows installation will still be on the drive but they will be located in the .old directory. Another option: If you decide to delete the original C: partition and leave the other partitions on the drive, *be very careful* that you properly identify the partition that you are about to delete. I always recommend making a backup copy of any data that you want to keep, just in case things turn out different than what you wanted. You can select the large partition on Disk 0 and click Delete. Once it is off the list, you can click the "New" button and proceed to create a new NTFS volume on Disk 0 that uses the empty space. Click to select the new partition and then click the Next button. The Windows Setup program will continue forward, installing the clean copy of Windows onto the new "blank" partition you just created. I hope this helps to clear up any confusion. Thanks -- Jason

      @@JasonBagnell hi, thank you for your response, so that means i dont have to delete C partition right?

    • @JasonBagnell
      @JasonBagnell 10 дней назад

      You don't have to delete the C: partition if you don't want to. If you select the existing C: partition during the "Where do you want to install windows" step, it will rename the previous copy of Windows to Windows.old like I mentioned in my previous comment and it will install the new version of Windows onto that same C: partition. Most people find this video when they want to *erase everything* off of their hard drive so they can install the new "clean" copy of Windows onto a 100% blank drive. Because you have data that you want to keep, it would be best if you did not delete any partitions. -- Jason

    • @JasonBagnell

      Hi! Some PCs are configured to automatically boot a USB flash drive (if one is installed) whenever the PC restarts. Your PC might be configured this way, so after the first part of the Windows Setup process has run, it will start counting down from 10 to 0 and then restart. Make sure the flash drive is unplugged before it boots up again. That way, the Windows Setup program will resume from the hard drive. Thanks! -- Jason
