Nice video of some popular old tractors. The accompanying commentary is pure rubbish, but it's nice to see the video. Btw, is anyone old enough here to tell me if the Fordson F had a worm gear final drive? If so, there may have been a speck of truth in the commentary about the Fordson's transmission issues. They were all dead or in museums by the time I was a youngster.

I have plowed many acres with a Model D. It runs on Kerosene which was very cheap so fuel cost were not much of a concern.

I'm sorry, but this video is nothing but nonsense. Great video clips, but none, NONE of these tractors could be classified as 'troublesome'. They were built by the hundreds of thousands and many are still in use today. My Massey Ferguson 35 is an example; there is absolutely nothing substandard or problematic with the original, untouched electrical system. English Ferguson 20 had Lucas electrical parts. Never seen problems with them. Detroit Fergusons had Delco Remy electrics. No problems.

As for the Massey, it was typical of the time, that was Lucas Electrics. Lucas remember is: The Prince of Darkness, they developed the Dim/Flicker and Off light switch, they are the reason that Brits drink warm beer. There is a bunch of them around NC Ohio running, but they have Motorola or GM alternator conversions and the remaining wiring replaced with something larger than Speaker wire. Have a 77 year old CASE VAC that is a gen around machine, it runs fine. Yes I changed the electricals out, not because they failed but because in the winter that 6V starter made it interesting. Upgraded to a GM one wire alternator, replaced all of that cotton rubber wiring and it works fine along with now I can put real lights on it.
