On Tuesday 1/28/25 Brian Shirley suffered a really unfortunate loss of a motor which resulted in a catastrophic fire. This could have easily been deadly if not for the quick action by the Needmore Speedway staff along with the guys with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series. @@saltybildo9448 it was a nasty few rolls I was just in the right place at the right time. That is usually not how it goes with racing photography but this time I was lucky. This was from the Friday night race. What is remarkable they pulled out the backup car with very little time and made the feature race and passed a bunch of cars finishing strong. @@arnaudlempereur8703 the motors are what we call open motors in the super late model class meaning they have no restrictions on displacement or modifications. They produce huge horsepower usually in 850-900 range. Then you have to adapt the car/suspension to fit the particular track it is tricky. Dirt Late models are highly technical in design and suspension. If you want to learn more look up a couple of the chassis builders such as rocket chassis and longhorn chassis they are the two largest manufacturers of dirt late models in the USA. Other classes in dirt late model racing run spec motors which have strict limitations on size which greatly reduces the horsepower. Hope that answers your question. bruh glad he is ok but once they got him out they shoulda def got away from the engine the last guy was right next to it i could understand if he was still in the car , who made the engine and how many times was it worked on its the time of year most of them are running new everything .... what rpm did it reach because it held it for a while😅 joking

There’ll never be another driver like him, he’s a one of a kind…a driver that truly could “do anything in a race car” win on three wheels, come from the back with no chance in hell and take the checkered. A true innovator, and definite legend, and always did what he could to help out…he had some knocks…got dealt a bad rep but always overcame and dominated and fought for the sport…I’ve been watching him for over 40yrs…and one of the drivers I hold the highest respect for…
