PRS SE Standard 24-08 Unboxing and Tones Demo
Running through as many possible tones as I can with the PRS SE Standard 24-08 in Translucent Blue. I absolutely love this guitar and love how incredible these pickups sound. I typically play the CE24 (my go-to guitar), but I'm also a big fan of the SE line, especially over the recent years. After trying out the SE Std 24-08, I had to have it. The switching system is absolutely perfect for what I'm used to in the CE24. I much prefer the two toggle switches over the 5 way blade with the push-pull tone control. This guitar feels and sounds great!
My apologies with some of the noodling with the delay and reverb...it sounded a bit muddy and busy after I listened to it, but I didn't feel like r...

I just recently acquired this guitar from a local guitar shop in Nashville. I was shocked to see it hanging up on the wall as these baritone's are no longer in production and seldom come on the market (I understand why now). The Coming Storm by Matt Moore - Lead Guitar Play-through.
Cool video. I have the exact PRS SE Standard 24-08. I love that trans blue! You can still see the wood grain when the stage light hits it. The only issue with mine is the truss rod is maxed out.
Bro how is your signal chain by using the ML5?
It’s been awhile since i’ve had this setup. If I remember correctly, it was guitar > tuner > “in” of the ml5. Loop 1 was the prism. L2 was the morning glory, L3 was my vp, L4 was the subnup and L5 was the chorus. “Out” from the ml5 into the strymon TL > strymon BS > amp.
Did you ever figure out how to fix the switch B going to V2 instead of V1 issue? I recently picked up my MC6 MKII and seem to have the exact same issue while trying to program it!
Unfortunately I have not figured it out..it’s been awhile since i’ve used the mc6 at this point - maybe i’ll figure it out again at some point.
Question, do you daysi chain all your midi pedals via the midi out of the mc6? I do that on my mc3, but when i want a program change, it does that for all the pedals in that chain? Any advise or work around?
I do not daisy chain the midi pedals, no. Sounds like your midi pedals are all set to the same midi channel. I would check to make sure each midi pedal is set to its’ own channel, that way, when you go to set a PC change, it is changing the way you are wanting it to. Make sense? Ex: midi pedal 1 is set to midi channel 2, midi pedal 2 is set to midi channel 4.
for the love of god, what is the difference between mikes tunings on his baritione vs his seven string?
Hi, is the ML5 stereo as well?
It is not, but the ml10x can handle stereo.
I have one of those Standards. Very nice.
This is a beautiful rig! Do you have all of your pedals connected to the ML5? I’m totally new to MIDI. I have 5 non midi pedals that will be connected to my ML5, but then I have 3 midi capable pedals for wet effects so I wasn’t sure if maybe I should’ve gotten the ML10 to have everything connected into that. I always used a traditional 8 loop true bypass switcher for years so this will be a big change for me lol! I’m hoping to use the MC8 in a similar fashion to what you’re doing where each section of my songs are programmed. I also want to have a Sit In bank where I have a preset for each overdrive and be able to toggle in wet effects too.
I might be overthinking it lol! The ML5 is still on the way. If I understand correctly, I just take the output of the ML5 and go to my Synesthesia, Timeline, and Mercury 7. Then do the midi connections of course.
hey there, thank you! for this board, I only have my non-midi pedals connected to the ML5, with the midi capable pedals outside of it. You are correct when you said in you second comment to take the output of the ML5 and go to your synesthesia, TL and M7; that's exactly how I ran this board: ML5 out > TL and BS. So I had two different connections: regular pedal chain as well as a midi chain. I used to run the Boss ES8 before and had literally all my pedals running into that, so the morningstar stuff took a little bit to get used to for me as well.
@@chrisjeemusic Thank you for clarifying! So if I decide to use only a reverb with an overdrive for example, do I have to send a CC message to tell the other pedals to be bypassed like my Timeline and Synesthesia? It’s confusing because at first I just I just send messages to the pedals I will be using in that preset, but maybe I’m missing that important step.
@@kristenrocksfrags8584 Sure thing! Yes, if you just want to use specific pedals for a section and bypass other pedals, you will need to program CC messages to do this.
Hi Chris, cool guitar. I have the 2009 MM, but mine is all factory stock with no modifications (yet). ;-). You mentioned it has a reverse coil tap. Are those pickups factory pre-wound for an actual coil tap, or is it a coil split where the humbucker is split into a humbucker/single coil setup that is activated to single coil with the switch position?
Hey there, very cool! To be honest, I'm not entirely sure if they are coil-splits or taps. My first initial thought wants to say it's a coil-tap, but again, I don't know for certain.
find out :o)@@chrisjeemusic
Pretty they’re cool split not tapped but let’s get to the bottom of this as it’s important
You should use 13-62. 68 is way too much for A lol. Especially on extended scale. I have 14-62 Ernie Ball cobalts for A standard. It’s perfect. The point of a baritone is you can use lighter string gauges for the same note as a standard scale. Ie use 10-56 for B standard but use the 13 for the highest string
I honestly don't really mind it as i'm using this guitar for mostly big rhythm stuff in dropped A tuning. Any lead stuff that I would use it for, is pretty simplistic in nature. I'm also using a 68 after contacting PRS and finding out that they shipped these guitars with that gauge. I might try a 62 in the future. Who knows, ha.
For future videos, do landscape. Filming like this might turn people off to your videos. Great guitar! Can't wait to get mine in a few days! How does the neck feel on that? Pretty thin? Would you say it's thicker or thinner than a Les Paul or a Fender Strat?
The tones demo is filmed in landscape. Thanks! It's a solid guitar. Neck is great if you're into a slightly thinner little wider profile, which I love. It depends on the model of LP or strat. If you're into the 50's style necks on an LP, you probably won't like this. If you're into more of a 60's style LP neck, this will suit you well, I'd say. Same with a fender style neck. Overall, if you're into thinner/wider necks, you'll like this one.
@@chrisjeemusic Yeah it sounds like it's the one for me then. Picking up the Faded Blue Burst SE Custom 24-08 on Saturday! Can't wait!
@@Lovell93 nice! Great color choice too 👌🏻 enjoy! 🎸
Hey man... this is great info. My lead guitar player at my church recently got MC6 as well and we are working on building presets and songs. we have a few questions would love to know your thoughts: 1. Are banks basically songs? if so you only have 30 songs available to store in the mc6? 2. How do you create set lists ? if it's even possible?
Appreciate the kind words dude! To answer your questions: 1. yes, banks are essentially song presets and you are correct that only 30 songs can be stored at a given time. With that being said though, you can also export those banks onto your computer (store them in a folder, which is what I do) and import them back into the MC6 for later use. 2. You can create a setlist, yes; however, there's a slight process in how to do so. Morningstar has a video tutorial about that I'll link here, as I believe it to be a helpful resource. ruclips.net/video/05s44pAI-No/видео.html I implement the first part of this video where I create a bank jump, but where I differ is that when I bank jump, it simply takes me to the first song of my setlist and when I get to the last song of my set list, I simply set one of the buttons to jump back to the main menu. Hopefully this makes sense?
Would you be able to make a video on how to set up the blinking preset names? I can't figure it out.
I'm sure I can get around to doing that. Are you having trouble doing it on the device itself? or on the editor?
@Chris Giannola Music both. I mostly use editor, granted I've only had it a few days. But when I select blink it does nothing
@@cvkballisticrhino1393 Okay. I'll try and get a video tutorial on how to do it in the coming days.
@Chris Giannola Music actually scratch that. I ended up figuring it out. I just missed the step where you set clear last preset on banks page. All good now👍
@@cvkballisticrhino1393 awesome, glad you were able to figure it out 🤙🏻
AWESOME!!!💢💥💢💥💢💥💢💥💢

Nice
Can you explain you’re midi signal chain please? It start MIDI out from mc6 to MIDI in into a Strymon and MIDI out from that Strymon to MIDI in into the other Strymon and finally out from the 2nd Strymon to MIDI in ml5?? Thank you
yep, you got it!
👍 nice
thanks :)
What cables are you using to go from your analog pedals into ml5?
I also have some questions for your signal chain if you don’t mind
I'm not sure of the name of the company that makes the actual cables, however the company that wired it up for me is Runway Audio in Nashville, TN. They custom built each cable on this board. The ends that go into each pedal are SP400 and the ones going into the ML5 are called G&H.
@@_happy02 Sure thing, what's your questions?
Awesome I’ll make sure to get those cable ends. Does your signal chain stay the same using the ml5? Or would I have to route my pedals differently to accommodate that?
@@_happy02 from my understanding of it, yes, it stays the same even with the ML5. The looper just keeps the signal path nice and clean and won't interrupt the signal if a pedal happens to malfunction.
PUT THE STOCK PICKUP BACK IN IT - YOU CAN FIND EM ON REVERB FROM TIME TO TIME
The shop I bought this from, did not have the original stock pickups. I'm sure I could, but I really enjoy the pickups that the owner before me put in, as they are the same ones I would've put in myself, or at least in the same neighborhood as I would've chosen. Great for hard rock.
@@chrisjeemusic understood
Wow man! Thanks for sharing your unboxing experience. It sounds amazing and looks prestigious.
Sure thing! It was a fun experience. Definitely a great piece.
Pattern thin neck or the wide thin on the SE are the ONLY prs necks I like. I am contemplating another CE myself.
Same. A lot more comfortable to play. 👌🏻
I have a ce24 semi hollow. Mine has been modded by PRS to have the 24-08 switching setup. Absolutely love it !
@Shawn McGinnis, that is EXACTLY what I want to do. Was this done after you bought and you sent to them or you pre-ordered a guitar and asked for that during the production of it ?
Also, what was the cost of that procedure if you don't mind sharing please.
@@Rob-qr2kn so my guitar actually had a finish problem so it was in the shop for warranty. I asked them to add the switching while it was there. Cost was 200. I was told it was normally 300. Seems really pricey, but it is PRS after all. They did a complete hardware swap and sent the original vol, tone, 3way back to me. I normally wouldn't pay that much and do it myself, bit since it was already there. Also just incase there was a finish issue while drilling it would be on them to repair and not me to cry about, and it keeps the warranty valid. Anyway I do really love the mod, and seeing as I got my guitar b4 the price jump in the end I haven't paid anymore than it cost to buy a bone stock one in 2022. 🤔 If warranty doesn't matter to you and you are good at soldering and have the proper drills I would mod it myself, or take it to a local luthier who could probably do it cheaper. Having PRS do it was just easier in my case because it was already there. The wait for repair was quite long at the beginning of the year. It was sent out in Feb and received back sometime in July.
I bought mine when they were first released, came in Drop A. I upped it to Drop B and put in EMG 81/60 PUs. I use DAddario EJ22 jazz medium (13-56) nickel wound with the wound 3rd. Best sounding electric guitar I ever played with an Ibanez TS808
You couldn’t activate the red remote of the morning glory with the mc6 ?
I'm honestly not sure if you can do that. If it is possible, I'd have to research on how to do it. Either way, I prefer having the manual control over it.
@@chrisjeemusic you can't do it with just the mc6 as there is not a latching relay in there. However they make a relay that is midi controllable and will do the trick. It's a nice to have not a need to have and it does require power if I'm not mistaken.
@@josephestes7076 good to know! I did see they released that unit not too long ago, but wasn’t sure what it did.
Really Nice dude! I have been looking into the MC6 for this exact usage. Is it easy to navigate if you all of a sudden need to play a song not on the set list?
Thanks man! That really all depends on if you have the song already programmed in the mc6 as well as knowing exactly where it is located within the unit, if that makes sense? If you don't, then obviously you wouldn't be able to. If you do, you would just need to know where it's at. Hopefully that answers your question.
I’m curious. Do you notice any difference between the 2 guitars?
I don't tonally. Physically, the neck on my black one feels just slightly thicker than my blue one, but it's very subtle.
Hey man. Thanks for the information. Can you make a video on the signal chain routing for this pedalboard? Explain which cables goes from where to where specially for ML5 and mc6. Cause i am confused about sync between ml5 and mc6
It's really simple believe it or not. All my analog (non-midi) pedals, with the exception of my tuner, are run straight into the ML5. The strymon BS and TL are outside of the ML5. I take the MC6 midi out to the Timline midi in, then timeline midi out to the bigsky midi in, then bigsky midi out to the midi in of the ML5. That's the entire midi chain. I then program the MC6 to talk to the ML5 to manage the presets to bring diff pedals in and out of my signal. Hopefully this makes sense?
@@chrisjeemusic ohhh so basically you're just connecting your analog pedals to ML5 and then connecting ML5 into MC6 like oyher midi pedals ?
@@ParthDhupkar yep! you got it.
Should the ML5 always be last in the MIDI chain? My Mercury 7 would be the last pedal in my chain which needs a TRS so I would have to use a converter to send it to the MIDI In on the ML5 if that’s correct. With the MC8 I’m hoping to just send an Omniport with the TRS to the Mercury 7 alone, and then take the MIDI Out into the Timeline and then into the ML5. That sounds easier if that could work.
@@kristenrocksfrags8584 thank you🙌🏻
