Happened upon this dramatic and intense moment between two fierce Western Whiptail lizards having an altercation. Thought it may have been mating season, but this seemed too violent. Fortunately I had my iPhone with me to capture a bit of their battle.
Porcini mushroom (King Boletes) hunting near Monterey California Fall 2021
Просмотров 28 тыс.3 года назад
I decided to make an attempt to look for porcini mushrooms knowing that there had been little rain during the previous weeks, and I’m certainly glad I did! It turned out to be a very productive few days hunting for these delicious mushrooms over the 2021 Thanksgiving weekend in the central California coastal hills near Monterey.

Hell ya brother
Thanks! 😊
You’re killing me, bro! I can hear that sharp cracking sound of fresh fungi. What a nice find. #MushroomFantasies.❤
Thanks! It’s addicting, right!?
Great video. Can I ask for the bolete at Monterey, what is the best month? Thanks
Why do stop posting? What's going on? I love watching ur videos esp Hunting wild mushroom like this. It's so refreshing
Unfortunately I’ve been unable to do any porcini hunting due to distance, dry conditions, work schedule etc. Hopefully more videos sooner than later! Thanks for watching and your comments!
Fantastic video! This seems like a dream, hoping for a day like this sometime in my life. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks Max! Glad you enjoyed watching my silly video. Truth be told, I combined some footage from two days of foraging. Most is from the one more productive day tho. Ha! Even when I watch my videos it seems like a dream. Because it’s not very frequent that I find such abundance due in part to our dry autumns here in Central Coastal California. I just returned this year from hunting my favorite spot which produced nothing at all. No rain. No boletes. Ugh! It was pretty disappointing. Good luck hunting!! 👊🏼
Are the species of mushrooms in Europe and north america the same ?
❤❤❤
Super👍
Are you sure this is boletus edulis? Since the forrest consists of pines and your mushrooms look quite reddish, I think you found boletus pinophilus. It's a rare kind here in Germany.
boletus edulis, var. gandedulis
Please stop saying oh my God it's blasphemy
Please don't push your religion on us. We have a big problem in our country with people trying to force certain lifestyle on us. From gays to religion.
Not once do I ever say ‘Oh my God’. Listen more carefully and quit your judging.
Well done mate. Great porcinis. Hello from Australia 🇦🇺.
such a relaxing hunt thank you for sharing! I subbed and was hoping for some more mushroom taps, I love the sound because each shroom is so unique. wishing you luck on your channel!
Glad you enjoyed watching! Tap, tap, tap 🍄 😂
Great hunt 🎉
Wow those are some MONSTERS!!!!
why are you not using a knife to cut it off, thereby leaving the roots at home in the duff?
As some1 already said, you destroy mushroom underground roots.. Right way of picking them up is to just roll them left and right and then cover hole with sourandings leaves.
Congrats to your hunt! I also hunt a lot of king boletes and other mushrooms, mainly in autumn. Greetings from Germany.
Greetings Johnny! Thanks for your comments! Best of luck on your mushroom hunting. I sure enjoy the beauty of Germany’s forests.
Boletes are the best with their beefy stalks.
Dang ! Those are so nice ! Can't wait till the five feet of snow goes here ! Cabin fever ! 😂
Those are great finds! What recipe do you plan to use?
Thanks Murray! It’s so rewarding to find and harvest boletes. I use a simple recipe of butter, garlic and light salt. I dehydrate the majority in a food dryer to be used later for soups, pastas, spreads etc. Good luck! 🍄
Nice exactly where is this at? I live near the Garland ranch park.
You live in Carmel Valley and I’m hunting not far from you in a private forest along PCH close to Pacific Grove. As you’re well aware, boletes are found in most of the coniferous coastal forests. However, they’re really elusive and not frequently encountered unless ideal conditions are met (sunny warm weather several days after heavy rain). Look for shrumps under pine trees. G’luck Howie in your mushroom hunting!
Absolutely beautiful! You are so fortunate. I found 1 when I was at point Reyes national sea shore…. I find other Boletes, but, not the porcini….some are pretty tasty….
@@toneenorman2135 I don’t always have good fortune when hunting for King Boletes. Unfortunately I often get skunked. I only share the good stuff. 🤫😝 Good luck Tonee!
@@WildWorldProductionsTV awww,thanks for that!🍄
Wow that’s nice
So cool! You've got the finders 👁! Keep posting your adventures and we will be watching!
Thanks Annette! More wild adventures to come!
I´m a mushroom hunter from Germany. We have 4 different species of king boletes in Germany/Europe. Your findings look more like Boletus pinophilus. Are there any pine trees nearby?
Hi there Johnny! What part of Germany are you from? I love your beautiful country. I’ve been fortunate to have visited Germany several times. Hard to compete with the beauty there! As per exactly which mushroom species these boletes are I am not certain. Everyone has referred to them as King Boletes or just Boletus edulis. They are found in a coniferous forest (Monterey pines, etc) mixed with some deciduous trees as well. Good luck hunting! 🍄 😊
@@WildWorldProductionsTV Hello. I‘m from the south of Lower Saxony, close to the Harz mountains. We have a lot of beech/oak trees. Due to bark beetles the spruce forests are mostly dead (luckily there were only a few parcels in the forests around my home). I find lots of boletus edulis under beech and oak, unfortunately chanterelle spots are very rare.

omg the amanita muscaria 😍 been trying to find some of those. not poisonous if you dry them but will take you on a crazy tip. have never been lucky enough to find them where i’m at.
That's awesome bro. I'm hoping I'll be lucky enough to find one in West Michigan but I doubt it. Maybe in the up at a bit higher elevation I'll have better luck. I live in West Michigan and I have never found any of those yet#goals
You should be able to find porcini mushrooms if there are pine trees etc. Not sure if elevation matters. I find them near the coastline of central California. Good luck!
It hurts my heart seeing you to uncover and destroy all the soil around mushroom and than leave it exposed to dry. It is really bad. Just very carefully remove the mushroom and immediately very carefully close the soil around. And try not to walk there. PLEASE.
that was fun making these together
Sam, my beautiful son, I’m so glad we’ve been able to forage for these prized mushrooms together! I love being with you in the amazing outdoors. Thanks for your help and support in finding, filming and preparing these delicious boletes!! ❤️👊🏼

Nice find 👍👍👍🍄🍄🍄🍄
Good afternoon Cook stuff I’m Japanese and My name is Daitizan. I love very natural mushrooms😋🍄🍽 Nice to meet you👍
Hey I’m mycology student and was wondering if there was a spot you recommend by Monterey? I’ve been have really bad luck with finding mushrooms outside of oldgrown oak forests. Thank you , and great finds !
Hey Jessie! Thanks for watching and for your comments. If you’re an amateur mycologist then you’ve got much more information than I have, for sure! I honestly generally have pretty bad luck in finding mushrooms. Esp the edibles like King boletes! However, once in awhile I get ‘lucky’ and hit the coniferous forests around Monterey (Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel) during the perfect window and come across an occasional beauty. My only recommendation to you would be to scour the forest floor wherever ideal conditions match up for Boletes - ie season, recent rain, soil warmth, proper vegetation (pines & other conifers) etc. Unfortunately, I personally have never found Porcini in or around old growth oak forests. I wish I could, however! Always a good idea to ask other mushroom hunters that you may encounter while hunting a certain area to get some better clues. From my experience, most people freely share info and will help you if you’re respectful. That said, these prized mushrooms have a tendency to evade even the well-experienced harvesters. So good luck and don’t give up! And don’t forget to crouch down and look for shrumps. You could be standing on top of one and hardly even know it!

Where are you studying? You are looking at the wrong trees in Monterey for porcinis
IF YOU ARE STILL INTERESTED WHERE TO FIND THEM LET ME KNOW. I WAS AMAZED WHEN I FOUND A SPOT BECAUSE OF ALL THE VARIATIONS OF THEM.
I had no idea these grew near monterey. I always thought mushrooms were more of a northern california thing, and that monterey was too dry for them.
wait the mushrooms cooked in the pan doesn't look like that giant king ballette that you cut up in your kitchen!
Lol. Mushrooms mostly made of water, they shrink a lot when pan fried haha
Every bolete that has been genetically sequenced from california is not boletus edulis, but a variety of other species, mostly described only from the west coast of north america. Just info, great content keep it up!
That’s great info! Curious to know what other varieties other than B. edulis var. grandedulis?
@@goodmushroom most are in the process of being described and will be given a name. If you want to learn more about them and the people who are doing the genetic research on them, the north american mycological society(NAMA) damon tighe or alan rockefeller might know who is doing the work currently. Its mostly hobby science so you need to talk to individuals.
