Yeah this is legit one of the most difficult missions in the game alongside mission 18 (A Long Way From Home) and mission 31 (Welcome Back) each for their own reasons.

Yeah for sure, their infantry and slingers both. Complete waste of resources haha Their midgol fortress units literally carry this civ, alongside their myth units.

Yeah so I showcased the original mission where we utilised the Roc to transport the Sword Bearer by going around the right-hand side of the map and drop on top of the Guardian which then proceeded to kill everything including red. It was a fun and cheeky strat which naturally got nerfed within days of me posting said video haha. So thought I would replay the mission with a non-cheesy strat (this one). Haha classic, honestly was probably a mistake, didn't need the population at the time or I straight up forgot haha. You are right for calling it out though, it is a must get upgrade, but there is an element of it being an expensive upgrade and timing/priority management.

@@donhaizeplays for sure! No point doing it early when resources can be spent on upgrades/units! Pure nostalgia on this game! Played it when it came out originally and downloaded the updated version recently. Working my way through titan campaign! Love it!

Yeah same, plenty of nostalgia in this game. I was a huge fan of the original game and was gutted when Microsoft seemingly moved away from AoM. Boy am I glad they brought the series back with this Retold edition. I hope Microsoft and the various development teams continue to work on this series for many years to come!

I didn't realse the difficulty options went beyond Titan in skirmish, that's interesting. 50% eco boost over and above titan sounds pretty nuts haha. I will have a think about PvP, I tend not to play that mode as I prefer the Story/Campaign style content but you are not the first person to ask so I may very well do something in the future - watch this space.

Woof, sounds like a royal challenge haha. That awesome to hear, I am glad you have found the videos useful - I myself have learnt a lot about this game and other age of titles since embarking on my titan walkthrough. Not least, walls are legit the best thing since sliced bread in 'Age of' titles!

Yeah this is one of the hardest missions in the game, this and the dwarven forge were the missions I found the most challenging. I too was trying to take a second base straight from the get-go, turns out this is at least in my opinion - not the way to tackle this mission. 1-base economy into defence and killing the mummies is the way to go then expand later on. It is a nuts mission though regardless of how it is tackled!

Yeah it's a bit of an mixed bag this one, I see a lot of people (myself included) who really enjoy this tug of war style mission and others who really don't. I get how you can end up not getting to the cart given the head start it gets. Typically you want to start with some fast units like camel riders and chariot archers, then transition into slower units like elephants and priests afterwards. Makes the mission far more manageable as this unit comp pretty much counters anything the AI will throw at you. Just gotta be mindful of that cheeky ambush at the end haha

@@donhaizeplays true true, I think another "breaking point" is the first god power spawns, even in your playthrough you used them in not so ideal moment, it's better to use them once you attack, and in front of the cart, and when no next wave is closing in, that way the cart may even convert to you sometimes :D

Yeah that's fair, I placed the serpents down mostly to tank/waste enemy attacks so ensure the fight went our way but arguably the better play is to use it to cap the cart once the cart moves out of the influence of their troops. I think this is what makes RTS such a good genre, there are soo many ways to play, some many different options and I enjoy seeing how people use the god powers in fun and unique ways. The best one so far is using the gold mines power (Norse) to wall off a base/entrance in The Dwarven Forge. Genuinely that thought never even crossed my mind in my run haha.

Haha heck yeah you are! What's great is that skill is transferrable to pretty much any RTS game and when you think about it, almost any game at all. Enjoy your new powers, but remember, with great power comes great responsibility haha

It is a tough mission this one, hence why I decided to cheese it originally. Figured I would go back and replay all of the missions I cheesed with the more traditional route. Very much looking forward to the new DLC. I actually never played the Chinese faction in the original game so it will be very new to me.

It's a fun mission albeit a bit of a challenging one haha. When you say blocking the way with gaia tree, how do you mean? That sounds like a fun 300 IQ set-up that I genuinely don't know about haha. Sounds fun though, I just don't know how you create gaia trees or even that you could? You are very welcome, I am glad you found my videos useful :) I don't know about you, but I am very much looking forward to the Immortal Pillars DLC for Retold. Can't wait for that to land!

That is interesting, I know Pink spawns a Scylla but for me that didn't happen until a bit later in the game. Perhaps the devs have tweaked the timings to counter this particular strategy which would be a bit cheeky but certainly possible. I did see a comment where someone had rushed to the base in the far left-hand side of the map and then just built defences to deal with the enemy and ignored the water completely. Apparently the enemy ignores your left-hand base allowing you to gather resources as they focus on your starting main base. Food for thought - it might help.

I am a big RTS fan too and all of those games you mentioned are great games in their own way. Empire Earth is a game series that started off great but unfortunately seemed to get progressively worse and devisive as the series went on which is very unfortunate. I definitely need to play that game at some point though! What is WUV WOO? haha It is my pleasure, if you are interested I am currently playing Age of Empires as well and I do plan on running through the entire series. Naturally I will be switching back to AoM:R once the DLC's drop.

@@donhaizeplays haha WUV WOO is a code to summon rainbow flying hippo if I remember correctly. It’s an awesome summon to wreck an annoying AI. Can’t wait for the expansion pack on AoM!

Ohhhh hahaha that sounds kinda fun! Kinda like the rocket car or whatever it is in AoE haha. Genuinely didn't even cross my mind that was a cheat code haha. I am however glad cheat codes exist for Single player games, they can add some fun and remove challenge when needed. I still remember some of the old Blizzard cheat codes. 'There is no cow level' 'All your base are belong to me' 'leaf it to me' 'it is a good day to die' 'i see dead people'

If I am understanding the command you are referring to, it would be the attack-move command which I have set as 'A'.

Yeah for sure, I was surprised how many cheeky strats of mine actually worked in this game. The Japanese campaign seemed to be very susceptible to cheesy strategies.

I wanted to showcase a fun and cheeky tactic for that mission. I may very well re-do this particular mission in the not-too distant future with a more 'traditional' approach - watch this space :)

Ahh okay gotcha, I mean I would have to agree with you on that one. It was a very straightforward mission and the titan showdown could have been so much more epic, instead Gaia slaps Kronos 5x and kerb stomps him haha. I am looking forward to the Immortal Pillars DLC when that drops. I never actually played the Chinese faction in the original game, so looking forward to see how they play.

I don't know why. Iinitially I would say perhaps they patched it, but I recently replayed this mission the other day for a more traditional mission (which will be out tomorrow night by chance). I had no issues with the first farm and completed ignored the second farm area in my follow-up video. I can only assume it has something to do with either the timing of the attack or perhaps the positioning of my troops. The enemy AI doesn't really respond properly until after your push towards the tower. Again the second area may very well be a patch, I genuinely didn't go to that area in my second crack at this mission.

So I purchased a digital version of heroes Chronicles (all 8x chapters) from GOG (Good old Games). It is worth noting that I am also using the Heroes Chronicles HD+ Mod as well. Heroes 3 was my childhood game of choice! I hope you find it all okay 👍

Yeah fair enough, I bet that turned into a right slog fest of a match though on titan! haha. Although petsobeks are legit one of the best units in the game imo, they can literally just mess up entire armies if you have enough units to tank damage at the front, like Scarabs.

Priests are great, worth mixing a few in alongside Petsobeks and Scarabs!

awh damn, I mean I figured it was only a matter of time until they nerfed this strategy. I thought they might make it so you cannot load the sword bearers onto the Roc rather than removing the Roc altogether. Some other strats you can use (not tested though), build up your base on the far right of the map (village where red attacks) with Citadels and what not then create an army there to kill red. Alternatively, use the villagers you get at the start of the map to mine gold from the left side of the map once you deal with the mummies. That way you can mine gold with the AI forcing you off mining every 2-3 mins.

Yet the petsobeks are legit one of the best Myth units in the game, once you hit a critical mass. Their range and dps is actually insane! haha. Well done on getting the win :)

It really is! I have been playing Age of Empires: DE following the Age of Mythology Retold series and whilst that game is great, it really doesn't hold a candle to AoM:R. Can't wait for more content to land so I can tackle some more challenges!

To be fair, this mission is kinda nuts if you don't cripple their economy early. The sheer number of troops they can create and how often they attack you is kinda insane on titan. It does sounds like a titan run is calling your name! If you get stuck anywhere, there are a bunch of tips & tricks for each mission on my videos :)

Yeah fair enough, I suspect it has something to do with wanting this to be the start of a new-line of content for Age of Mythology, and with some of the original VA's no longer available/passed on, they probably felt they needed to re-do the voice lines. Just a guess though.

Yeah its certainly an odd choice, that is like you say far too easy to overlook. Either way, I am glad I am now aware of this gimmick and it has certainly made the Campaign more manageable. Having to click on individual villagers was unbelievably painful haha

Hahaha fair one, maybe I will look to re-do the cheese missions with a separate 'traditional run'. Something for me to have a think about I guess :) I also kinda want to play AoE2:DE as I have never played that game and I haven't played AoE2 since I was a kid. I remember it being hard as nails and never completed it. Not to mention the countless expansions that game received haha.

@donhaizeplays I'm currently redoing the campaign myself with a challenge to destroy everything in sight on titan, it takes time, but it's a lot of fun!

​@@donhaizeplaysI'm not sure if you understand that Return of Rome is Age of Empires 1 implemented in Age of Empires 2? All the civilizations ,the graphics and the tech trees have been ported, too. They actually added 2 more campaigns that weren't part of Age of Empires 1 in that mode.. And yes, it's a standard campaign. But you have to switch the game engine in the upper left corner of the screen.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I will be re-running AoE4 but it makes sense to start at the beginning and run the full series whilst we wait for more Age of Mythology retold content. I genuinely enjoy playing older games, both from a nostalgia perspective but its interesting to see how the games and series have evolved over time. I agree that the Definitive edition remasters seem to be good quality remasters, and not just a cash grab like so many game series have done previously.

I realised on the first mission of the Babylonian Campaign why villagers are immune to auto attacks and don't get aggro'd. It's all because of diplomacy, most missions seem to set the enemy as 'neutral' meaning your troops attack the enemy troops but won't aggro villagers. However with the simple act of setting the enemy to 'enemy' in the diplomacy menu, it means that villagers get auto-targeted by your troops. A true game-changer if ever I knew one as this was one of my biggest gripes with the game up until that point of discovery. Still a very odd choice from the devs and was probably explained in the tutorials I skipped haha. Oh well, figured it out in the end haha

@@donhaizeplays The AI will focus on atacking your main TC, you can have as many unprotected villagers on that far left TC that they ok, as long as you hold the starting TC. My problem was that this slow down booming a bit and it gets harder to build the navy and destroy pink.

Oh that's interesting and also quite comical haha. Fair enough and kudos to you for figuring that out. I wouldn't have attempted something that in like 100 games haha. Yeah a slower economy is a challenge in of itself, but if they leave you alone then that's a fairly good trade-off haha

Yeah this mission is quite the challenge, unless you can wall off before red attacks around the 11 min mark, your eco can so easily get sent back to the stone age. I think its the hardest mission in the Babylon campaign, so if you can get past this one, the rest of the campaign should be more manageable. Horrific mission though, kudos for getting past it.

Haha, setting diplomacy to enemy is the biggest win of the series so far! I wonder what other nuggets I shall find as I progress through this challenging campaign!

So it turns out that some missions have AI diplomacy set to enemy where other missions have them set to Neutral. When neutral is selected, your troops attack the enemy troops but ignore villagers unless you command them to attack individually. When set to enemy your troops auto target villagers even if you attack move command into the enemy. It took me WAY to long to figure that out but lesson learnt! haha

Yeah I suspect it has changed although I don't actually remember the specifics. In this version of the game however, Kronos has insane HP regeneration which means you need to use Gaia now to my knowledge.

I think they still count as archers in terms of damage type but I could very well be wrong on that. Not something I have tested to be honest.
