As an Irish man, decendend from Scottish immigrants who settled in Ireland 800 years ago, I couldn’t be more proud to wear a kilt with clan colours. It is an honour and privilege. The highland regiments were one of most fearsome and battle hardened units to encounter and always stood their ground or died trying. When the enemy heard the pipers in the distance they knew all hell was about to unleash upon them and stood in fear for what was coming 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⚔️🇮🇪🫡

The belgians began the ceremony in everlasting appreciation of sacrificatìon nations..to help BRAVO BELGIUM..

If one looks at the background walls. Thousand names of the sons of the then named empire of great Britain are all that remains of who they were before the slaughter of great war. I cry every time I see these or american civil war cemeteries of the unknowns. At Vicksburg Mississippi thousands of union graves with but just a number as to who they were. Having been to war it is a bloody business and sadly business will always be good...

The whole ceremony is very moving indeed. After the bugle, a speaker recites the third verse of the poem "The fallen", ending with "We will remember them". The entire crowd repeated this line. Hard to bear, even after all the time. Thanks to the people of Belgium and Ieper for the respects and your efforts. These will as well been remembered.

Men wore so called skirts for centuries, think Romans,etc. Dresses were worn by women. It is a KILT, not a skirt. It is Tartan.

Reminds me of my grandfather's so much it brings tears to my eyes they both fought in ww2 from Dunkirk Africa Burma and all the way to to Germany ill never forget them both miss them both to this day

Visited twice 2013 and 2019, my wife's great grandad s name is on the monument killed September 1917. Hope to go back again next year .
