"Expectation" Very well said! For me, I have this "standard", and I believe I'm not alone in this, that inside the church is the last place we should encounter an offense. In theory, yes, this should be true.. When the offense happens, It's so easy for the enemy to make you feel completely alone in your offense. Why? Because sometimes, the offender could be connected to every single leader in the church. Making you feel as if no one will understand or care, or even presume you're lying. Or worse than that, it can make you feel that if you surface and expose your offense, it could cause many others to be offended so why spread your offense like a virus? The truth is, we can wake up daily, spend time with Jesus, dig deep into his word, show love and kindness to others outside the church, and when there is traction in those areas, it sometimes puts a target on your back for the enemy to push against you. For those 5-6 days a week we are disconnected from the body, then we are there on a Sunday or in a group. We can show up after a week of attack in the world, at our jobs, or home life, and arrive with such a high expectation from one another, forgetting that we are all human. When someone hurts a person in the church, knowing that Jesus see's it almost adds to the offense. Jesus is who we are there for in the first place, so it always blows my mind that the offender forgets that? This is a pattern of thinking that I've had until now. I needed this podcast more than you know and its helped me greatly. Who am I to set these "standards" in my father's house!? You're right! It is our fault, and humility is the core value we must practice with one another. I love Jesus with all my heart, and if that's true, then I must love people with all my heart as well. Even an offender. Our expectations should be filled with expecting the Holy Spirit to convict offenders, not to hurt them, but to grow them! We should want everyone around us to grow in Jesus and we should all consider and accept that sometimes, we may be wrong ourselves.
