Thank you for this insightful discussion. Very refreshing take on book discussions
All The Bright Places, Fault In Our Stars and Powerful all make me sob ugly
Fault in our Stars is another great one.
1.ravena guron 2. jess mackey (forgot her surname) 3.chelsea pitcher 4.stephen king 5. mahreen johnson
Excellent choices. It’s so nice having a few authors you can always rely on to hit it out of the park
I need more shorts like this 😂🤣
I live to serve the people and I have so many books that fit this genre 😂
Appreciate you spoiling every book
All the summaries I wrote included info which is quite literally mentioned on the back synopsis of all of these books but pop off. Thanks for the engagement!
Loved this one this is my favourite so far I really would like to read a few of these, but definitely the year of magical thinking. Oh, and by the way, love the ribbons 🧡
@@KellieHarrison-y2j yay I’m so glad you liked it and I cannot recommend year of magical thinking more! It’s such a beautiful book
Hi I’m going to need this to be a series thank you so much
Dorothy WOULD hate the Australian/uk cover with her whole heart
I’m so glad someone else sees my vision. She would detest it and think it was ugly AF
Hi from Stanthorpe! If you need a hand, I haven't done anything like this before, but I do write the most shocking stuff I have ever read in my life. It just is meant to help contextualize a video. If you need any help. You do seem fine
I would ❤ to see your reading wrap ups/5 star reads!
I did one back in November but I’m going to get back into monthly wrap ups 🥰
Wait Jurassic Park was originally a novel?! Intriguing. Fab recs as always x
Yes! It was actually the inspiration behind my next video! I had no idea it was a novel and it’s so so good!!!
didion calls to me like a siren and this has convinced me to dive in
Don’t say I didn’t warn you about the tears
Welcome to BookTube! I hope you enjoy the community here. I can definitely relate to being a mood reader and reading in phases. For years I read primarily historical fiction, but I got burned out. Then I was really into psychological thrillers. Last year I read a lot of romance. Now I'm wanting to get back into thrillers. 🤣But I do generally read a variety of genres, I just have my ever-changing focuses. I haven't read The book Thief yet, but it's one of my best friend's favorite books. It's on my TBR.
Definitely make sure you check out Book Thief it’s sooooo good! I’m glad to see someone else reads in huge chunks of the same genre 😂
Hi, Laura! I'm looking forward to hearing about all bookish things you want to share with us. From an oldie content creator to a newbie, welcome aboard. We're so glad to have you here!
Thank you! I'm super excited to get into the community more :)
As a passionate colour coordinated shelf hater this is the first reason I’ve ever heard someone give about why they do that that truly made sense to my brain and you’ve now made me question part of my identity
I am here to educate the masses
Having the books sorted by colour makes a lot of sense. Someone would have to be close enough to read the titles to know they aren't arranged by name/author, but anyone in the room could glance over and see the satisfying colour sections
I guess different folks different strokes. I’m a very visual memory person so it works for me 🤷♀️
Great recommendations! p.s. what an adorable plushie on your shelf!❤
Thank you! He's from the 'fuggly' collection, they sell them in kmart :)
love your picks, i'm adding the girls to my tbr! about underrated books, i think the centre by ayesha manazir siddiqi is really overlooked and i just love it to pieces; it's about language and translation, and how it defines us and culture. i think it would be up your alley!
Ooooo thank you! I’m adding this to my list. Let me know what you think about the girls!
Reverse reading?
I’m so glad Awad is on your list! Have you read Rouge? One of favs from last year. Adding Dinan’s book to my tbr for this year.
I very sadly DNFed Rouge I wanted to love it so badly but I couldn’t get through it 😭
@@lauraelisestudio awwnooo :( totally understandable though. There were a couple books I had to put aside (though I dare not say publicly for how lauded they are!) that friends recommended to me
Yeah the internet can certainly have strong opinions about things 😂 I can definitely understand why you’d prefer to keep some to yourself
um you look goregous in this video
Thank you so much 🥰
Almost 30 minute video? I’m sat. I’m active listening.
Had to go out with a bang for 2024 what can I say
I can't stand it when authors use virginity as a commodity. It only had value in the past because it was just another way to control women. It truly gives me the ick when I find it in a novel.
Ugh me too. It’s a vile and so overly used trope ESPECIALLY in dark romance. While I disliked daydream credit where credit is due for how the author handled it in this particular book
HAVE to comment on the Obernewtyn series. Criminally slept on is an understatement and I love that you brought this one up! You encapsulated it so well. It is a damn brilliant series, so much better than others in the genre that are so popular. It can be drawn out and slow, but that’s because of how much it explores the inner depths of Elspeth’s experience.
YESSSSS another Obernewtn stan. I am just waiting for it to blow up on Tiktok because it's so good and NO ONE talks about it
The best thing I do to help with reading slumps is aggressively try to avoid hitting one. Which sounds dumb as hell, but I've found if I'm churning back to back mega fantasy world building super complex books back to back my brain eventually gets tired and wants a break. So I try to alternate between challenging or heavy topic reads and smooth brain pure dopamine fun reads. The variety between kinds of reading making me excited to keep going regardless of how 'good' it is, I just want to keep having fun
Yesssssss, reading should be fun. Always fun
I love this kind of content!! You just got yourself a new subscriber! May God keep blessing you and your channel!
OMG thank you so much, I'm so glad you like it!
Fantastic recs as always, also love your nail colour. Funny as I saw another booktuber complaining about The List and I’m a Fan, so wrote them off even though I thought they sounded interesting. Excited to read them now!
Thank you so much. I feel like a nice coffee brown always goes with everything I’ll be interested to see what you think! Everyone has different tastes, I can definitely see why The List might not be people’s faves because I’ll be honest it’s a pretty uncomfortable read but in a good way!
📖🪱💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵
Thank god I’ve almost finished the previous list I needed more
I give the people what they want
I have a lot of reasons why I personally dislike romance novels. Because I don’t relate to them, because the dynamics are often toxic, etc. But I think adult women should be able to read whatever they want. It’s pretty sexist that people go after women who like romance. My only issue is with younger girls reading stuff like this, because they internalize a lot of the unhealthy relationship dynamics in them. But I also have a problem with teenaged boys watching anime with problematic relationship dynamics in them that propagate misogyny. Or gaming channels that spew bigotry.
I v much agree with the comment about younger people reading them!!!!
Ok but the chemistry between past and future Laura is palpable 🥵
What can I say, they're both hotties
I love all of these ideas! An Audible subscription is on my Wishlist this year 🤓
Oh that's also an excellent one!
The fact that you started with animal farm made me laugh
I was about to comment that books are inherently political but you're soo right! There's absolutely nothing political about animals rising up against farmers 🥰🥰🥰 (joke obv) Edit: Hunger games is awesome. I love reading about kids playing archery.

Read The Road over a decade ago and still recall it and the feelings it gave me relatively clearly . It’s one of my favorite dystopians I’ve ever read, & I think was one of the ones that got me loving the genre. No spoilers, but wonder if you’ve heard a certain theory about the book - one that crossed my mind but apparently crossed more minds than mine . Blahdiggityblah 📚 🪱 💔🤍💙
Summer hate is Treason! (But in Australia, early Autumn is really where its at)
Autumn is peak. Think of all the cozy reading content
Summer haters club forever
@@monique_tech I’m so glad I’m not alone
The chair stealing crime must be addressed look at that tiny RAGE
Love the reassurance that you don't have to be amazing at these to enjoy them!
I am bad at pretty much everything I do, as demonstrated by this youtube channel ;)
Love love loved these summaries!! And it’s nice to see another opinion on Really Good Actually, I enjoyed it but I don’t see it talked about a lot Also low key thought The Road was dry prose about Americans fishing or something, now I know what it’s actually about I’ll def have to give it a go!
I never see ANYONE talking about RGA and I think it's such an absolutely underrated gem. I hope you enjoy The Road, it's definitely not dry very very bleak though
my soul needed this today
YAP FOR UUUSSS ❤🔥
This video alone deserved me subscribing. Gosh, giiiirl, love all these! Hugs from Budapest, Hungary, Europe. ❤
OMG thank you so much!!!!!
Oooooh!!! I love the topic!!❤❤❤
I added all of these books to my tbr! Thank you for the recommendations! The way you described these stories hooked me immediately!!
I hope you love them all as much as I did
@lauraelisestudio Same! : )
Oooh loving the recs. I love that there are a few books here I’d never even heard of 🧡
Oh good! I always try and include some that I don't see in as many videos :)
Give us a trinket haul!! Show us the babies!!
@@bbthewitch TikTok video maybe? 🤔
Not me looking at my shelf that definitely has two of your books on it 👀 Also, The Road will ALWAYS be relevant 🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@bbthewitch but also I know I will get those back at some point 🥰
