Now that we’ve finally received a bit of snow here in Central Maine, I’ve been wanting to do a 2-year update on my Toro PowerMax 1030 Heavy Duty snowblower. It’s an awesome machine, but I did have a particular issue with it last winter that has since then been resolved. Be sure to watch this video to see what the issue was and my thoughts on how the snowblower is working now! Thank you for all ...

With another late fall into early winter season upon us, my dad and I wanted to re-visit one of our favorite places here in our home state of Maine, the Northwest mountains. This is our favorite area to scout for moose and big White-tailed deer. With a fresh inch or two of snow on the ground we decided today would be the perfect day to do some scouting/tracking. After quite a long break from making a new video, I finally had some time to get one put together for everyone! Today I went on a beautiful hike bagging 3 of Maine's 4,000 footers, a quest I have been attempting to complete beginning last year. After this hike I have now completed 8 of Maine's 14 4,000 footers. I still have Sugarloaf and Spaulding, Abraham, North Brother, and Baxter Hamlin Peak...

We received our first snowstorm of the season here in Maine (December 4th, 2023). We picked up 8” of heavy, wet snow. It led to power outages and limbs snapping out of the trees. It is beautiful though! Gave me a great chance to test out my still nearly brand-new Toro Power Max Heavy Duty 1030 OHAE snowblower. I bought this machine new last winter and used it about a dozen times last season. It...

What made it even better was the fact that we saw plenty of wildlife throughout the day. Partridge, deer, a pair of Canada Gray Jays, and two large bull moose made for some exciting scouting. I like the snow, what I don't like is the 1.5" of rain in the forecast for Wed. That's just gonna make a big mess. I hope it's not another one of 'those' winters... 🍺
I couldn’t agree more! Not looking forward to the rain! Why couldn’t it just stay snow! 😢
Absolutely love my 1030. ❤️
It's a great machine! I'm always happy knowing I have it whenever I see snow in the forecast!
Made lots of money using mine especially when folks are desperate after a large snowfall and everyone has a full route. Worth every penny and dent.
It sure is a great tool to have at your disposal during wintertime!
How many and deep are the streams before you hit the waterfall? My daughter and I live in Berwick and have a Maine waterfalls book. This one and Moxie are the next ones we want to go too.
Depending on the time of the year somewhat (higher flow in spring and lower flow in summer into early fall) there are some pools on the short hike in but for the most part it’s just a meandering rocky stream you follow until you reach the falls. Beautiful place for sure though!
Unbelievable Elephant in the room no one talks about. My machine is virtually usable The hand grips are like squeezing one of the excercise devices to strengthen your hands. Either the springs or the angle make using the machine unbearable.
You know, I don’t completely disagree with you. My hands do get a bit tired after using this machine for hours, and I think some design portion of the handlebars needs changing. But then again, my hands get tired after using anything where I keep them tightly squeezed for extended periods of time (i.e the throttle on my weed whacker comes to mind). I’ve run other brands of snow blowers where my hands and arms get a bit tired too, though not quite as bad as this Toro. Definitely something they could look into improving on an otherwise great machine.
Toro's are solid!
They sure are! Thanks for watching!
That sure was a crazy wind storm. Nice new trailcam. 👍🏻
It sure was! Thanks for watching!
Nice snowfall, I wish we would get some around here!
Sadly it was our only accumulating snowfall so far this entire season, and it has since all melted. I’m anxiously awaiting more as well! Thanks for watching!
I went down through my woodlot and it looked like it got pounded by artillery..lol.
It’s so crazy! So much damage!

Thanks for sharing the video. Your Toro Power Max HD 1030 had no problem with that heavy wet snow. I got to try my Toro Power Max HD 1232 for the first-time last winter. In late February we got 9 inches of extremely wet heavy snow. This was the test I was waiting for to see how well my new machine was going to handle the snowman snow. After about an hour blowing that slop, I have to say, I was very impressed. The distance I was blowing that stuff was amazing. Over 50' in heavy wet snow and in powder closer to 60'. My property has some rough terrain to snow blow, so I was hesitant to go with a machine with auto steer. I did a lot of research before making the purchase on the Toro 1232. The quick stick works great, once you get some time using it. The Toro anti-clog impeller system is not just hype, it works as advertised. Not one time blowing that heavy wet snow did it even hit of clogging. We also got a spell of really cold weather last winter. I store my snow blower in an unheated outbuilding, and it was right at the 0 mark the morning I went out to blow the snow we got during the night. Most of the snow was blown into drifts here and there. What I was wondering, how was the machine going to start in such frigid temperatures using the pull cord. Turn the fuel on, put the throttle a little more than halfway, hit the primmer three times and on the first pull she fired right up. Out into the cold I went. Those hand warmers are a blessing in such temperatures. So far here in southeastern MI, winter hasn't showed up yet. Thanks for showing how well your Toro 1030 Power Max HD worked. Maybe before long well get some snow to get out and play in here in MI. Have a safe and blessed winter and a happy new year.
They are such great machines! We may have a snowstorm coming for us next Sunday! Let’s hope! Thanks for watching! Happy New Year!
What does ohae stand for? Just curious.
Great question! I had to do some research myself to see if I could figure it out. It looks like each letter stands for something different that the particular model snowblower has as part of its package. In this case the “O” stands for OH valve, the “H” means it has the handlebar warmers, the “A” stands for Auto-steering, and the “E” means this model has Electric start.
Those are some majestic looking pine trees. 👍
They are amazing! I’m very lucky to have them all around where I live! Thanks for watching!
Great machine, and unlike a lot of people on RUclips, your operating technique is nicely done 👍.
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
I agree except people should start in the middle, then do the zamboni method. That way you never have to move the chute, and you never blow snow over sections you've already done. Thanks for filming it.
@@Mr21scott I agree and do this “Zamboni” method on windy days when the snow is powdery for the exact reasons you mentioned and also to help prevent it from blowing back in my face! 😂
#like 👏👏👍👍
I had my first TORO 824 hp back in 1998 and had it for 20 years, I gave it to a friend who needed it running perfectly. I then bought the TORO 1028 4 years ago and still love it, you cannot kill these machines, best machines money can buy. You made a wise decision. BTW: I live in New Hampshire. After winter is done, I pump out as much gas out of it and let it run till it konks out and put it away.
Hi Neighbor! They are amazing machines! My dad has had his first about 25 years and it still runs great! I hope to get as many years out of mine! Thanks for watching!
When you adjusted your skid shoes, did you have the machine resting on the concrete or just above it?
Because I have a paved driveway I did minimal adjusting because the dealership I bought it from asked me if I had a paved or gravel driveway and adjusted it for me accordingly. But if I had to adjust it I’d probably find something like a thin board at a few sturdy pieces of cardboard to put under the blower in order to raise it up a bit to make it easier to drop the skid shoes down equally on both sides.
How did you make out in this latest mess? Lots of power outage over here and lots of trees down. And on top of that a lot of rain we didn't need and nowhere for the water to go.
It’s an absolute mess here too! So many trees down, power outages all over, and plenty of flooding too. We’ve got a lot of cleanup ahead of us. My personal weather station i have recorded a peak wind gust of 64MPH! And that’s not even up at tree height where the wind is stronger!
We picked up 5.25" here in Bangor out of that storm
Nice! It was a great first storm of the season! But since then it’s been all rain, rain, rain! 😕 Thanks for watching!
This Toro will last forever nice snow blower well built 😊
That’s my hope! They are great machines 👍 Thanks for watching!
I never take a full bite, because I hate leaving snow trails.
I agree! I typically overlap with just under a full bite just to catch the extra that falls over. Thankfully this blower seems to do great really cleaning things up unless I’m going too fast in deep snow. 😂 Thanks for watching!
Yes it does.@@OffTrailMaine
It's got a nice thine stream coming out of the shoot like Honda's have witch should blow back on those windy days.
I do love that about this machine. But on those windy days with a fluffy snow, you definitely do still get that cold snow bath now and again if you try blowing into the wind! 😂 Thanks for watching!
Hello! I think I’ve seen your channel before. I have a camp in Eustis. Are you near there or more south? It looks like you have nice property. Beautiful scene when the trees are covered.
Hello! Yes I’m very familiar with the Eustis area, but am myself located about an hours drive south of there. Very lucky to live where I do! Thanks for watching!
Nice video & great machine! Hope you make more ✌
Definitely more to come! Thanks for the compliments and for watching!
Looks like a good machine. I'm in for two plows already. Probably 10 more to go before march. Ughhhhh
Power ahead my friend, spring will be here before we know it! Until then bring on winter! 😉 Thanks for watching!
Good video and have a good day
Thanks for watching!
The saw made short work of the tree 🥳
It sure did! Thanks for watching!
Great day for a walk in the woods. 👍 Snowing here now. 5-10" expected but then I see the long range says 40s and rain 😟.
We've received 8" so far and its still snowing, although very lightly now. Maybe another 1-2" this evening before it all wraps up. All in all, a great first storm of the season here! But yes, I see that long range forecast and it doesn't look appealing to me 😔
I don’t cut any where a house or barn was plus tree line, stay above head height 7 ft
It’s definitely risky cutting in areas where nails or barbed wire fencing is a potential risk.
How many cc is it ???😊
50.2 cc 👍
One of my 6th grade field trip was up borestone. Watching this from Lewiston,Maine.
Thanks for watching! I myself grew up in Turner, just a couple towns north of Lewiston!
That's funny. Yeah turner is 25 mins from me. I grew up in milo, Brownville area. I went to school in Guilford for about a year and a half. We lived in Lewiston now for about 5 years. Thank you so much for sharing. I miss the northern sticks.
@@stevensmall9398 It sure is a beautiful area up there!
👍
The rain put a damper on my videoing plans for this weekend, but I still wanted to get something posted for viewing! More rain, why am I not surprised? 😂
@@OffTrailMaine It's snowing here right now. We got about 3-4 " down! 😎
@@NB88 Lucky! It’s raining here and 34F! About as miserable as it gets! I’d much prefer snow at this temp than rain!
Such beautiful surroundings and interesting to see the countryside. That logging area will be interesting to see the deer and moose that comes to feed. 👍
It sure is beautiful! Thanks for watching!
Great to see you back on here. Great work on getting rid of the invasive vines that don't belong. ❤️
Thanks! And thanks for watching!
I always found late October a great time to call in moose especially the cows. I used to go out with my dad when he as still around and they would always come right to us. One time we called in two cows and they come right to the truck and one of them put her head right in the window and was sniffing dad. Lol. He said get the camera, get the camera! So I did but of course the battery was dead. lol. oh well.
lol that’s amazing! I agree, we’ve had great luck in the past calling them right to us. It’s harder to see them nowadays in our neck of the woods for a few reasons. Used to see them on the side of the road pretty regularly. Now you’ve got to go out in the deep woods to find them, but I feel like that just makes it more exciting when you do find them!
Great story
Beautiful country! Ive never been to western Maine. Used to do some hunting on the eastern side.
It sure is beautiful out there! Thank you for watching!
Oh man, rain, rain and more rain...lol...I wonder what kind of winter we're in for. Good info on the invasive plants. I try to get rid of anything invasive too. I know it won't make any difference but doing my part. Good to see ya back on the tube. Cheers. 🍺
Thanks Dale! I know, it’s been such a wet spring, summer, and fall! I’m definitely curious to see what winter brings. And the invasives battle is never ending for sure! Cheers! 🍻
Did you have to alter the PTO driveline of the tiller at all to fit this tractor?
Not at all. Everything fit perfectly stock!
