Every time you change the card's distance from the lens even by a few inches, auto focus has to recalibrate. Plus your hand was moving sometimes so that confuses it - as motion is somewhat of a priority. So basically, if you want the focus to happen consistently, hold the cards at the same exact distance from the lens each time, and don't move them once they are up.

I probably already said this but you have a great voice for tingles. xo
