This channel is dedicated to two activities I love: music and hang gliding. Whether I'm composing some music for a hang gliding video or performing a cover of some artist that has inspired me, I hope you will tag along as I share the beautiful sport of hang gliding and my adventures in the sky. Beginning with my first flight as an aspiring pilot, I wish to promote the sport and present to the world all the wonderful people that I meet along the way.
Hang Gliding: Sunset Flying
Let this video be a lesson in identifying cross-controlling. I hadn't flown in a few months and have since corrected my less than desirable technique.
For the music I produced for this video, I felt this one needed a little up-tempo, aggressive style guitar. I had just written the guitar parts within the week leading up to this flight and, in my opinion, it seemed to go quite well with the video.

Hang Gliding: First Solo Flight (Aerotow)

Perfect morning for my first solo on September 16, 2018. Proof that dreams come true if you work hard. Footage shot on an iPhone. GoPro POV videos coming soon.
I stopped motorcycle racing to get into something safer, hang gliding and it was the best thing I ever did. My first mountain launch was across the valley at Racoon Mtn where my training took place. 750 feet which was much more inviting than Lookout's 1,500. I have never been that scared before or since. Adrenal gland full throttle. Then on to Lookout. Next came Hensons Gap and Whitwell up the valley with the Tree Toppers for 7 years. The experience changed who I was, my religeon, life views and career path. It pumped up my confidence. Hundreds of flights and saw an older guy blow a landing and break his ankle which was the only injury I ever saw. Only stopped when the babies started coming. No longer had the time to drive from Nashville every weekend. The reward is well worth the expense and journey so just do it.
why is it always this site that has helpers on launch doing dumb stuff, if a pilot does not have good pitch control and a strong launch, then someone holding the keel or pushing on the sail is not going to help
Looks like Georgia
Run harder! You should run as hard as you can each, and every time. If there is lift, its up up and away! I know if was your first time, but looked like you hesitated a bit. Still don't understand the flying in a non-prone position. You have to learn it, so why wait? You have much less control of the glider like that. I've read all the reasons why they teach it that way, but don't agree. I first flew in 1975!
Yep, that was a fairly lethargic takeoff run. Start slow but build up as much speed as you can before your feet leave the ground. Looks like you can't go too wrong on that ramp but not all hang-gliding launches will be like that.
Il n’y a rien au dessus de ça 🍻
I launched off that ramp in 2017! What a great experience
Megusta mucho Ber videos de vuelo de ala delta nunca envolado quisiera algundia tener la oportunidad de volar debeser muy apasionante afortunados aquellos que vuelan en ala delta hernan Pérez de colombia
Launch could have used a bit more commitment
if I could travel round the world like that
Well done looks tricky
Awesome!
Good job! How inspiring!
Miss that shit SOOOOO MUCH! Now 73y/o! Living at home in NE La.
For about 3 years I spent every weekend there camping and flying. It was great.
Wow! Great video. Thank you.
Taught Hang Gliding 6 years. Like the camera work but not the flying. Always remember!!! Turn right, hips right. Same for left. You cross your body in your turns and and knarly windy situation at Lookout or any other mtn landing field could be detrimental to your health. Please study your own video on how you are turning your aircraft.
Nice piloting
I'm so proud to be in your crowd
thats awesome.love to try it.
💙💛
....Live to fly...FLY TO LIVE....
Bit worried about no videos in 4 years. Did the next trip not go well? RIP Sky-high Fly Guy :-(
Love watching these first time mt flights. Brings me back to my first mt flight 20 years ago. Tho mine wasnt as smooth
I like your music, how can I get those compositions?
1983 was my first flight here, having trained at Crystal Flight Resort, operated by Dan Johnson, B.J. Shulte was my instructor for my first mountain launch at Raccoon Mountain. Bill and Steve Moyes were there on occasion. The world was much nicer back then. I flew Lookout dozens of times over the next 20 years, lots of flights over 4 hrs. in a Flight Designs Demon 175, and most of my X-C activity was in Alabama at Chandler Mtn. No fun in life compares to soaring in a hang glider.
Exacto!! ❤ El vuelo libre es indescriptible...
I learned hang gliding in the late 80s in Southern California at Crestline from the guru Rob McKenzie. Landings are more or less always exiting, you are lucky you have such a large and unobstructed field to land at. Our final crossed a dirt road and ditches before the actual field. Today the Andy Jackson Flight Park in San Bernadino is one of the best landing sites in the world. Is it obvious I miss flying hang gliders ha ha. Oh, you were a newbie back then, I am shure you have improved since so I will not bore you with suggested improvements.
I lived in Lookout Mountain Tennessee on West Brow Oval. One day I was in my front yard raking leaves and heard "Hey" I looked around and saw nobody until i heard "Hey look Up" A hanglider was about (I guess) 20 feet over my house (probably more but it was amazing)!!!!
Bummer! I was waiting for the landing! Oh well... I prefer ambient sounds,no music please!
... there are safer things to do on lookout mountain than to jump off it ... 😅
Great
you should have jumped early in the morning with all that majestic fog, would have been amazing
Died to fly - I just watched an old documentary on RUclips from the early days (1970's) of hang gliding. A lot of people died back then, even the really experienced flyers.
Unforgettable moments... Many greetings from Croatia
Just before the gopro cut out, it looked like you were left wing low in cross wind and probably touched you right wing tip on landing. You should have been aimed more left to get wings level. But by now I'm sure you've got this!!!!! Looked great on approach too.
First launch on the video was a horrible attempt. The pilot didn't make his harness straps tight by leaning forward and pulling the glider with his body to accelerate. He basically just fell off the downhill portion of the launch platform and the glider reached flying speed. I guarantee you on steep launches in the mountains of Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and California, you must pull and accelerate the glider with your body; a weak launch has bad outcomes. The Go-Pro went "whack" upon landing, it didn't die. Go to Teluride CO for the hang gliding festival and the entire crowd yells "WHACK" because even experienced Hang Glider pilots struggle with the high altitude and small landing field at the baseball diamond. Look, this novice pilot did a great job during this flight. Keep going and quit being soft on your takeoffs. BTW, I have 21 years, almost 2000 flights, and 3000 hours in the mountains of Colorado, Utah, (Go to The Point of the Mountain near SLC) and Wyoming.
Thanks for sharing. I was contemplating paragliding, but I’m so glad I’ve spent the time watching and learning about hang gliding. Much safer and as you are on your belly when you fly, you must feel like a bird!
That glider has a left hand turn in it …
Overall, pretty good, run harder on launch.
My dad used to fly here. Have you ever been to enjoy?
My dad learned here, he was part of the original Tennessee ridge runners.
Did the GoPro battery really die Lol? Looks like that landing may have been a little rough with the right bank & the amount of altitude gained when flaring.
This is where I rode tandem twice. LOVE IT!!! I just wish it wasn’t as expensive. If it wasn’t, this would be the first thing I’d want to do when I rolled out of bed in the morning.
How much does it cost?
I’m so jealous. 💜💙❤️
Can't wait to get into this. I just turned 40 and need something EXHILARATING to do. I have always dreamed of flying... I've been looking into paragliding, BUT after do research, hanggliding is alot safer bc you don't have to deal with collapses, or stalls, no parachutes to deploy if something goes wrong. Awesome video, nice job!
Good decision!
No parachute to deploy when going in? What do you do at that point? Pray? Try sports cars. They have air bags. I got to admit I like watching others do it. But I’ve seen the wings collapse on hang gliders too. I used to live near lone pine California, those guys jumped off the Sierras into the desert valley
@@jimsteinway695 Good point😂
Exactly! I like flying machines that DON’T collapse in flight. Just a personal preference 😂
So what do you deploy if something goes wrong?
Nicely done man, hope you're still flying 👍🏼
How many flights did it take till you did your first solo ??
The hang glider used in the vid is a low quality one it barely even lifted u up instead of a walk postion a crawl postion and the hang glider couldent move the wings flaps at a angel to slow down speed when landing like a lot of other ones
Brilliant! I bet you felt amazing and scared all at the same time! Great job bro!
Remember my first flight the 15.10.2021…… heartbeat 💓 rate 175 the Apple Watch told me to breath :-) now It.s still high at the departure but then it calms down
