He's right. 4.0 can bang. So to beat them and get to 4.5 you need to protect. Play drops and resets. Get to the kitchen line. Aggressive dinks and patience and find that opening.

you can't volley the ball when you're in the kitchen. Or, if you're in the kitchen, you can only hit the ball after it has bounced. Or, if you volley the ball when you're in the kitchen then you lose the point.

if you are truly ambidextrous, it is ALL upside and the epitome of balance. This is being a dual threat - true the middle can clack paddles, but the upside is double the surface area when they shoot down the middle, aka, most likely shot from opponents. I'll admit, switching for normal people is not recommended, but if you are truly ambidextrous, go for it.

Thank you very much for this timely reminder. Getting clear protective glasses for indoor play has been on my list to get. I guess I could use my pistol shooting safety glasses in the mean time. I got hit with a tennis ball in the eye but wearing sun glasses. Still had a black eye for over two weeks from the rim of the glasses around the eye.

Hmm, with succesful lobbers I go with aggresive drives always keeping them low, hitting more to thier backhand, always speeding it up at the net,,taking thier game away. They may get a couple successful lobs in, but not enough to win. I've noticed a lot of lobbers avoid high octane play,,not all! Lately I've watched some matches where both teams did almost all lobs back in forth with other and enjoyed that style of play so much, to where they only wanted to play with others that wanted to play the same way. Maybe there should be lobber tourneys in the future,,since I've noticed they don't like my mode of play. My self training has been this, be an all arounder, don't get to trapped or to involved in what will take your all around game away, "the chess game".

I played a 15 point game recently where, for the entire match, my partner was iced out, and 99% of the hits were in my direction (after the serves). Why? Because I was the weaker player and my opponents were jerks. I was at the kitchen line, so it wasn't my court position. Sometimes, you are matched up with toddlers who just want easy wins instead of playing games where all players are involved.

Ya man, it's like, they are playing to win or something... Next time just say you are not gonna keep scores. It's weird that some people wants to play a "fair" game, but let's make it not competitive. Oh wait this is pickleball so can probably make up a rule like, every other player have to take turn hitting the ball - you know, like table tennis doubles rules - which on one hand, makes doubles ping pong very interesting, but I'm sure then there will be complainers about - Oooo you mean I actually have to MOVE now? This was the whole reason I didn't want to play tennis...

On occasion I will be at the kitchen line with paddle up protecting my face or upper body and the other team player, also at the kitchen line, will bang the ball at my face. I have my paddle up and try to be ready for this shot but I cannot help but flinch. How can I get over this fear of fast bangers targeting my face or head? I am a 70 year old lady playing for about a year and am doing well otherwise. Also, where I play a lot of people, older and young do a lot of lobs. I try to return them softly into the kitchen.

I realize this is an old video but here are thoughts for older players at least. Lobbing every so often is part of the game but when people lob multiple times per game, and especially when they have been held at the back court by the team that has put the ball deep on them and moved up to the kitchen line, it is because they do not have the skill to execute a drop shot.

  • @dominionn09

It's a great video. The frustration is when you're lower level partner constantly bangs and hangs back. Hitting hard to good players from the mid court is asking for troubles
