Tallgrass Sudbury
Добавлен 18 окт 2011
Tallgrass Sudbury School is based in Riverside, IL, a near west suburb of Chicago, and serves students ages 4-19.
At a Sudbury school, students are free to spend their time however they choose. We have no set curriculum, no grades, and no standardized testing. Students and staff run the school together, voting on decisions from field trips to the school budget. Sudbury schools believe that children have a natural desire to learn and to teach themselves. When kids are free to manage their time and education they develop confidence, independence, responsibility, and resourcefulness.
To learn more about our school, contact us at info@tallgrasssudbury.org or 708.777.1037. Tallgrass accepts applications from prospective students year round.

A "Typical Day" at Tallgrass Sudbury School
A casual conversation and yet some very key elements of the setting are clarified--and with such character! Thanks to all involved :)
The girl is very well spoken and reminds me of a child actress.
YOUNG JUSTICE!
Hehehehe
I'm batman
Just learnt about the sudbury school model this week. I'm seeing a group of well adjusted successful teenagers who have found their passions in life who are going to go on to have successful careers in jobs they enjoy, have a true love of learning that will follow them the rest of their lives, and won't have to deal with the ptsd and trauma that comes from a rough strict 'normal school' where you spend most of the time bored and uninterested and not learning anyway. I wish I had the opportunity to go a school like this, as someone with autism who was heavily bullied and much preferred to spend time in the library, computer labs and music rooms teaching myself, this would have been heaven.
What are their names, do they have instagram?
uh, I got tagged here what is it about?
Sudbury Schools are schools in which kids are treated like adults. Issues are solved in the school meetings, in which decisions are made democratically between everyone in the community, including students and staff. People at the school are free to do what they want. These people graduated from this sudbury school, and are talking about their experiences going from the school to where they are now.
I love the school so much
I couldn't afford this happiness.
My parents couldn't swing it and now it's too late. I have all those bad habits from primary contemporary school baked into me. How do I fix this?
it's totally normal for people aged 18 - 25 to not know what they want in life, to be still questioning and doubting and looking for answers. Expecting that they should have all the answers about who they are by now is funny.
What disappoints me about the second kids testimony on how sudsbury has "prepared" him for college is that what they claim for kids to discover what they want to do was not the case for him and not because he liked too many things, but rather the negative...this is only one problem with this system
parepidemos productions So. That one kid. Try listening or reading about others www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/freedom-learn/201406/survey-grown-unschoolers-ii-going-college
@@Nothin2seehere-e4z yeah! It bugs me how a lot of adults say things like "well how do they learn to read?" If they are talking about younger kids. But I dont think they understand. They learn it the same way you learn to walk. Or talk. You observe, take it in and eventually you can do it yourself.
@@Nothin2seehere-e4z I found the problem, and it is not with the system... at least not totally... I haven't read the article, but will
I hate this comment still. Education isn't limited to college for the next step, but society currently influences what makes a good next step, which makes for a stumbling block for what someone's true next step should be
Let me guess - Trump is not their President. But I guess it's OK to be badly prepared for life as long as you have rich parents, right?
Not sure about the demographics of Tallgrass, but I do a lot of professional research into Sudbury and related schools, and I can say unequivocally that a good number of families are making liberal use of financial aid at these places. And let's just suppose that any success these kids have had is because they have rich parents. (Of course, I wouldn't make that assumption as I don't know these kids or their families, but that makes me different from you, I guess.) Okay, then. That means we can safely say - does it not? - that school has precisely 0 effect on life outcomes, because the income of your parents decides everything? That seems to be the conclusion you'd have to draw from your comment.
guydecervens Oh shut up. Maybe do some research instead of just assuming. This article say the opposite www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/freedom-learn/201406/survey-grown-unschoolers-ii-going-college
guydecervens is a troll. Check out his other comments. I find his comment very prejudiced and uninformed. . On what does he base the parents' incomes? The way the children are dressed? The fact that it's a "private school?" Did he even take a moment to research before he commented? This school's tuition is about half the cost of other private schools. The cost to educate a child in a public school is three times as much! The fact that he mentions Trump shows that he's trying to discredit the school and Trump followers in one statement. But in both cases he is sadly misguided.
Standard public school does a better job at churning out default democrats.
My little cousin goes to a Sadbury and he’s 8 already doing Calculus because he found it to be the thing that most sparks his interest. When I walked into his school there was a 14 year old doing photo-realistic drawing of a rose from his mind, and a 9 year old reading Ulysses... ULYSSES! He was taking notes too! WOW! These kids are truly geniuses and if you have the resources to send your kid to a Sadbury please do so. With what I saw I am truly impressed.
hi can i contact you regarding the school experience i am curious about this school and want to know insights so that I can send my daughter here
嗚呼、素晴らしい
Awesome to hear your thoughts Melissa. Thank you for being open and honest about your experience!
Great to hear your thoughts and story Elizabeth! I hope I can come visit again some in the future!
I visited this school and I will never forget it. The students just own their education and learning.
No offense but do they even have help or teachers their because I have a feeling that most of those kids talking at the table weren’t too educated to go to college or what to do with their life
Students at Tallgrass have help and support from staff and other students. Their education at Tallgrass is very different from education at mainstream schools, but we've actually seen that Sudbury students are just as successful in higher education, and often more so, than students from mainstream schools. The students on this panel were certainly ready to go to college, and did so, and succeeded in their higher education pursuits. One has a masters in Economics, one went to culinary school and then completed a degree in nutrition, one finished nursing school, and one graduated from a liberal arts college with the highest honor her college awards.
Mary Orio - no, the correct spelling is as posted - their, as in "their" collective education.
Yea, go to school Mary, Sudbury for example :-)
Mary Orio If we are still talking about THE education, then it's THEIR education, not THERE. The subject is not the place but the education.
Mary Orio Ok, that makes it clear we are speaking about two different texts. :-)
Its sad... this video show just how unsuccessful kids coming out of this school are...
This panel includes Tallgrass alums who have: finished a masters in Economics; gone to culinary school and finished a degree in nutrition; finished nursing school and passed the Illinois nursing licensing exam; and graduated with the highest honor at a liberal arts college. If you don't think those students are successful, I'd be interested to know what you think successful is.

you're kidding right.
Yes. I, too, was wondering if GoofyLongBoarder was watching the same video I was watching.
Kevin Currie-Knight He probably never watch the video
Don't say what they are going to talk about because it will bore the students and then they wont pay attention.
I am in the seventh grade and I live a few blocks away. May I attend this school? please reply
Thanks for your comment! We have an open house on January 16 (Martin Luther King Day) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and you're welcome to attend. You could also call us at 708.777.1037 or email us at info@tallgrasssudbury.org to set up a visit at another time.
