STORM BERT - Escaping South in our Motorhome Florrie
Просмотров 591День назад
Hello guys, A couple of days we don't want to have to experience again. We were up in Keswick - it was our last night on the CCC Derwentwater site, before we travelled South. The forecast wasn't great - Storm Bert would bring high winds and rain to the Midlands and the South, and Sleet and Snow to the North of England and Scotland. As we awoke the next day, the forecast had changed to rain for ...

Hello guys Our last couple of days in Galloway, Scotland, Leaving Garlieston after another beautiful Sunrise, we travelled to a remote CL, The Brough on the edge of the Galloway Forest. We really felt miles from anywhere out in nature, being close to Red Kites, Ravens and the darkest skies with no hint of light. What a beautiful place - we will be back Dave & Sue Music is as always by our great...

Hello Everyone, So we reach our final day of the most memorable European Road Trip. But there's a sting in the tail, as we get delayed and searched at Calais, meaning we miss our Shuttle Train back to the UK. Hi everyone, Days 22-24 of our European Trip spent at Schwarzwaldcaping Alisehof in the Black Forest. And we chose a pitch right next to a waterfall on the Wolf River. FLORRIE’S First Trip to France - Newbie Motorhomers on Eurotunnel
I always love making plans for the year 😊 it sounds like your going to have an exciting one lots of adventures.
The trouble is that if you don’t plan the year then other stuff gets put in the calendar and, before you know it it’s weeks since you’ve been anywhere. And that’s a lot of money sitting on the drive or in storage! We’re off to the Peak District tomorrow for a few days; only our second short outing since our return from a month in France. We have rallies booked over the early part of 2025, Scotland in Feb, the South in March, then France and/or Ireland April/May, Scandinavia June/July, home for August and off to the Adamo Rally in Sept. Like you guys, it’s the best investment we’ve made and want to make the most of it while we can. We are very very lucky to be able to do so. Take care both.
That’s a wonderful itinerary Katherine. Isn’t it just brilliant to make these plans and the beauty of this life is that you can change your mind even when you’re out there on the road. Sounds like you have so much going on! We would love to go to Norway as some point - we’re thinking 2026, but then the Outer Hebrides are calling - East Germany and Poland - so many places so little time!! Enjoy the Peak Distict - somewhere we haven’t been to in the van yet. Such a gorgeous area. We would love to get to Europe more next year it’s just trying to fit it all in! If we don’t bump into you guys before, then we will look forward to catching up at the Rally. Have a great trip and travel safe. 👍👍
Thank you for sharing. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.
Thanks Arnstein. You too mate 👍👍👍
A busy year ahead then guys.. 😊🙏 I'd definitely recommend the VanLife Fest for next year for you..we did it for the first time this year and it was brilliant..a great blend of stalls, bands and reasonably priced food stalls too 😉👍 Take care and safe travels..
Yep we’ve booked tickets 🎉🎉. Really looking forward to it 👍 Can’t believe we will back in Europe in three weeks. Where does the time go?? You two take care
Wow you are organised :). Just away with our new Matilda for a few days to work everything out. Garlieston is in the list again for us next year. The site we are on at the moment is only about 5 miles from home and close to Leighton Moss bird sanctuary. Fabulous murmurations and lots of other birds including a buzzard who doesn’t see. To be to bothered about humans! Looking forward to your next adventure. Ian
Hi Ian. I just love watching murmurations - one of the best wildlife spectacles!! Hope Matilda is operating well 👍👍 Garlieston was wonderful - we will have to get back soon Leighton Moss is somewhere I’ve never visited. Three weeks to Spain - where does the time go mate??
@@NBNatureTrailvan We are planning Garlieston in May at the moment. Need to get some stuff booked and there are a couple of other sites you visited that are on our list :). Ian
Enjoy your day
Thanks Dave. You too mate 👍👍👍
Spain sounds great, slow roads hopefully to enjoy the scenery, Although a similar trip in place next summer i hope i can get Health insurance or we wont be going..shame i dont do plans ourselves as live the moment, my daughter said i have a Diary coming for xmas, i replied i do need something to doodle in while away..lol.. It all sounds Great, enjoy guys.. atb
Well not surprised mate. Hope you can get something for 25. We can’t wait for our trip - can’t believe where the time goes - it’s crazy that we only have three weeks and a bit to go. Sorry for late reply - been decorating (hate it) 😨😃
Your plans sound great! Nice that you have 2025 mostly sorted out. Do you make all your reservations ahead of time or wait closer to when you go? So far we only make rough plans for our summer vacation since we don’t know exactly when we can go. Our plans are more hopes! Lol. Hope the people in Spain are ok, that your trip can go ahead. Take care guys and we’ll see you again soon! 👌☀️☀️
Hi Jen. Sorry for late reply. We have booked some campsites in Spain - quite nice ones and they get booked up very early. But the journey down and back we haven’t booked. We will just see how far we get each day and then decide on where to stop. In Europe there are so many places to park up (not in England unfortunately) that we should be fine Can’t wait to get going!!
Wow! Loving the plans! I havnt thought about next years trips yet. Live the curious cows 🥰
H thanks!! 😃. Yes, we’re so looking forward to our trips. The Spain journey is getting very close!! Have a lovely week ahead 👍👍
That'll be a nice long trip to Spain. Yes, let's hope you don't have to deal with the aftermath. Enjoy the caravan show. Scotland will be so nice to do again. We are like that with Alaska. So many places we didn't get to see so we are hoping to get back this year to see some of the things we missed. The festival and rally will be fun. Europe-Nice! Sounds like your year is going to be busy.
It really is and we’re really looking forward to it! So much to look forward to and the Spanish journey is getting very close!! We haven’t decided on where in Scotland we’re travelling yet, but would love to go back to Ardnamurchan - a special place. Remote and peaceful and we loved it there. Have a good week ahead you two👍👍
Ooh, a spain trip sounds like a super fun adventure!! I hope you cn overcome the challenges that are happening there right now. Then up to Scotland,.England, etc! So fun! I am very excited to follow your adventures this coming year. You kept listing very cool places and events after another fun event. Loved listening to your fun accent and your cool plans for the full 9 min. Best of luck fun friends.
Thank you 🙏. Yes we’re so excited to get going - especially as the Spanish journey is getting very close now! We’ve had an amazing year in the Motorhome and visited so many wonderful areas. So 2025 is going to be great. Have a lovely week ahead and thanks again 👍👍👍
A few points. The ECU (cars brain) is a sealed unit located inside the engine bay and is not affected water ingress. The screen condensation drops onto the headlamp connector behind the dash, passenger side. This causes the headlights to come on and drains the vehicle battery. Easily fixed by lifting the connector a few inches. I have not experienced van level making much difference to the water level readings. The reason that the tank can flood the van if the tank is overfilled is because either the cap is loose, drain toggle chain missing or poorly sealed tank pipe connections. Easily remedied and should save continually removing the cap, which is not very accessible on some models. John Crane had a towbar fitted your model by M Parkinson, tow bar specialists. You could have said that most of the problems reported on the Adamo Facebook pages are user problems caused generally by not getting a good enough handover or failure to read the appropriate manuals. Some of the systems on the Adamo are quite technical. I put a lot of time and effort into producing the Adamo RUclips channel. A reference to this would have been appreciated. Another issue is rain water collecting in the bonnet cavities leading to rot. My bonnet drainage plugs are an effective remedy and have proved quite popular.
Hi Dave and Sue, it sounds like you have some good plans for the next year. Spain definitely sounds exciting. Loved seeing that super calm water at the end - gorgeous area.
It’s beautiful there Donna. We loved South West Scotland!! Can’t wait for our trips next year!!
Nice to hear your plans for next year 👍
Cheers Graeme - very excited to be going to Spain. 🇪🇸. Hope you guys are doing well. Have a great Christmas 👍👍🎅
Safe travels
Cheers Dave - we're really looking forward to 2025 👍👍
So exciting! Lots of wonderful plans and amazing memory making waiting in 2025! 🎉🥰
Yes - hopefully we can get a lot of trips away with you guys next year!! xx
Glad that you're a big more organised than us!! Love the idea of the 2 Euro trips in 2025. We'll probably do two in 2026 but just the one next year. As we have a dog we will face the horrors (and costs!) of having to arrange the Animal Health Certificate plus injections, wormers etc! I wish that Pet Passports were available! As well as Europe we'll definitely be doing Scotland (the Isles) and like you we need a week in the Lakes each year. We may also visit Wales plus Kent and East Sussex as its the one area of England we've never explored. Have a great Christmas if you dont post before.
Hi Robin Yes not having a dog seems advantage when going to Europe - we did have dogs, and we miss them every day, but a bit glad that we don’t have to go through the rigmarole of the health certificates. Ooh, now then, Sussex is such a beautiful county, (where I’m from so I’m biased) 😃 Brighton is a very cool city and the CAMC site is great for that Really looking forward to our Scotland trip. We are being torn a bit towards Arran from Mull but haven’t finally decided yet. I definitely would love to go back to Ardnamurchan! Have a lovely Sunday guys, we should hopefully be uploading a couple more vids before Spain. 👍
Hi both it sounds great that you're planning on doing Spain in January weather depending. So you have a month planned there and going in about a months time. Hopefully all will be OK weather wise by then 🙏The caravan show in Feb sounds good and Scotland sounds amazing especially Mull . Ooo June and the van life festival in Yorkshire sounds good too. July and Aug you can enjoy the UK sun if we get any ☀️😃 You have lots of great plans so you will need the next few weeks to prepare for 2025 so maybe cancel Christmas hehe 😃 Those views were adorable, that's a lovely location . Hope you're all OK with the weather there, we have had really bad winds. Have a good rest of the weekend ~ Anna 👍
Hi Anna. Hope you’re both ok after the storms. Been crazy hasn’t it! Yes, Spain in just over three weeks. Can’t believe how quickly it has come around. Christmas will be brilliant but then we will be off. We have planned the bigger trips and then the local smaller ones just sort of happen really 😃😃. We’re now discussing whether we do Mull again or Arran. We met a couple of people who live on Arran and they really sold it to us!! So now not sure exactly where we will be going in the Spring. But it’s exciting planning it all anyway 😃 Have a lovely Sunday you two. 👍👍
Wow you have lots planned but isn't it great to know you have things to look forward too. Two lots of Europe Fabulous. No I don't like cows either! We have lots for next year too! Can't wait! Thanks for sharing 👍
Cheers Anna and Steve. We can’t wait to get off to Spain! And looking forward to Scotland and all the other places too. We have tried to plan the big trips and then all the smaller ones just sort of happen 😃 Lovin this life
Exciting times guys , time moves pretty fast your right the years are flying by . Enjoy and happy travels Helen and Martin
Thanks both. Just can’t believe how fast our first year in the van has passed by. Not getting any younger so we’re trying to get as much in as we can. We need to try and fit a Scandinavian trip in somehow in the next eighteen months! 😃 But we can honestly say that we’ve loved every minute out there! Thanks for the inspiration Helen and Martin 🙏
Hi friends. Just watched your amazing road trip video! 🌟 It really captured the joy of exploring the open road in a motorhome. Can’t wait to make our own memories on our adventure in 2025! 🚐💨
Thanks so much Z and S. where are you heading? Being out in the van has been just so good for us!
Great video! It’s good to hear you are planning all your trips for next year! I’m looking forward to seeing them all - Spain sounds exciting! Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much. And thank you for watching our vlogs. It’s so kind of you 🙏🙏🙏. We can’t wait to get going again! Hope you’re having a great weekend
So Beautiful 🔄⭕🔄, my dear friend
Thank you 🙏. Very kind of you.
Happy Weekend Dave and Sue. You will have another busy year on the road, but I hope that the trip to Spain will work out fine. It is hard to know what is working and what is not working when reading about the regions in Spain, but you have a few more weeks to get information and then act accordingly. I did notice the absence of Scandinavia in 2025, but that is understandable as it is far away! But have you thought about going somewhere without Florrie, like a cruise or something. And the motorshow and festival will be fun and a place for inspiration and meeting likeminded people! So hoping you have a nice weekend. All the best, Ant
Hiya Ant. Norway is on the list. It’s just that 2025 doesn’t really give us enough time all at once to be able to do it. We so nearly booked a cruise for 25! Our youngest daughter did one last year and our middle daughter and husband are going on the same one in 25. They invited us too but we just couldn’t fit it all in! Spain is a concern but it seems that the campsites are still welcoming tourists and the routes around and through Valencia are open. So we are very much looking forward to the trip. Hopefully, another year of adventure and good health for us and then we will be planning a longer trip (Scandinavia hopefully), in 26 Have a lovely Sunday Ant.
@NBNatureTrailvan 2026 will be here before you know it, so no harm in having thought out things in advance! If you do some research on migrating birds you might find some areas in Scandinavia that are really scenic and suitable for bird watching as you pass through! So have that in mind when planning! Have a nice Sunday down in the south!
@@ArcticNatureExperiences Thanks Ant - you too mate
Ooooh I've always fancied visiting Hay on Wye! We love Valencia and were so sad to see the images of the devastating flooding. N&Nx
I know. It was so bad wasn’t it. But by the looks of it - most if not all campsites are operating normally and the routes are pretty clear. Can’t wait to get going!!
Might see you in Spain as we will still be here 😊❤
It would be brilliant to maybe meet up somewhere. Will keep in touch 👍👍
Our plans are up in the air as Lindsay changed her plans.
😬. Oh no. Hope all is ok mate. 🤞🤞🤞
@@NBNatureTrailvan Yes just the change of date for retirement.
👍 #46 Hi Dave and Sue, blimey, you really are early starters... which is great to beat the traffic but not for me lol. The weather looked truly horrid!!! I see the 'near illuminous banana yellow (be seen be safe lol) sexy poncho is standing up well to the weather and Storm Bert would challenge it's quality for sure! 'the Lodge' looked very homely. It sounds like you had a great 2 weeks in the lakes though, to make up for the horrid weather afte, particularly those last 2 days.... Spain can't come round quick enough eh. A great watch guys and the chatting really helps. 👍◕‿◕
Ha that’s right, Spain can’t come around quickly enough! 😃. The Poncho cheered the warden up that morning at least 😃😃 We probably should have stayed out Jane, but the forecast was for rain not Snow. And there were green fields around Keswick so we decided to go. But not a lot of fun driving in that! Our third big storm this year and probably the worst. Stay safe today Jane. Big one incoming! 😨
Stay safe guys that Storm looks bad . Love your vlogs keep it up ❤
It was a bit nerve wracking. We probably should have stayed put. Hopefully Spain will be a bit better! 🤞🤞 Cheers John and Zoe 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Nothing like setting up or tearing down in the rain or bad weather. Driving in possible icy conditions is always scary. Look at the snow. WOW! Love your hat. Glad you got to New Castle safely. It's just a muddy mess now. Minnie Pit disaster was so sad. Only 11 survived. Happy holidays.
You too guys yes, it wasn't a fun drive - we probably should have stayed put in hindsight! And the Minnie Pit was really mind blowing and so dreadfully sad! That was a lovely little site and we will use that again as a stop off when we're travelling North. Off to Spain in January and can't wait!
Ive been on this road plenty of times and the scenery still blows my mind ❤❤❤
Hi Steven. I know. It’s unbelievable isn’t it. We now have a Motorhome so not sure if we will be able to do it again 😨 The Southern section which we filmed on another vid is as good if not better (I was told that that section is the real wee mad road)! Just love Assynt!!
Hello Dave and Sue, goodness me what a storm you were in, loved the poncho Dave. It didn't look a very pleasant journey all weathers as you drove. Looked a lovely CL such a shame with the weather, you certainly deserved the drink in the pub. Glad you were save in the storm, take care , Julie and Tony x
Oh gosh, yes we probably should have stayed put but the forecast was for improvement and rain not Snow! The temps rose 5 degrees by the time we got to Lancaster so maybe we should have left later. But alls well that ends well and we got safely to that little CL. The poncho was great. 😃😃. And it cheered the warden up too 🤣🤣 Hope you two are doing well. 👍👍👍
@ yes we aren’t too bad had the Covid vaccine this week and we were ill for 2 days🤷 okish now. Been busy with our granddaughter lots of Christmas events happening. Take care xx
oh no. 😨. I had both vaccines and it wasn’t too bad. I wasn’t sure about the Covid one but went for it in the end. Sue won’t have it as it made her really ill too years back! We’ve all been Ill for two weeks with a rubbish lurgy. So much going around isn’t there! Stay safe and well and enjoy all the Christmas preparations 👍👍🎅
Hello Dave and Sue, enjoying your lake district journey, we have never visited Keswick. Lovely to see the pheasants. Nice to have a look around the campsite and the mountaind in the background. Lovely views over the valleys and the sunrise was amazing. Take care x Julie and Tony x
We absolutely love Keswick. And that CCC Derwentwater site is so close to the town and the shops plus it’s five minutes walk to that view down the lake. We haven’t been back kind of to the South Lakes for years - it always seems so crowded - but although Keswick is busy, it’s easy to wander out into the fields and hills from there. And you really do feel like you’re in the middle of the mountains!
Hello Dave and Sue, ha ha Sue made me smile , how many Dave, loved listening to your travels, very informative, take care , Julie and Tony x
Thanks guys. Yes it was a heck of a trip. Ha yes I’m prone to exaggerating!! 😃
Glad you didn't let the storm stop your travels! Looking forward to hearing about your Spain trip 😊
Hi David. We probably should she stayed out but the forecast was for a big improvement - it just didn’t happen fast enough! We’re really looking forward to getting back across into Europe. Planning near enough done now - just the wait! Hope you’re having a good week 👍👍
Excellent
Cheers Dave. Hope you’re having a good week mate 👍👍
Glad to see you back out again. Beautiful areas traveled. There were definitely some dominant birds there at the feeder. LOL. Love the fabulous sunsets and sunrises. Looked like you were having a fabulous trip. Well done. Have a great day.
It was a great trip Steve. Galloway is somewhere we haven’t been for forty years! And we forgot just how beautiful it is! We went South to the Lake District. - our go to place in Winter. And back home again now for Christmas after getting caught in a big storm But all safe and sound now!! Hope you guys are having a good week 👍👍

Hi Alex. Sue messaged but not sure if it got through. Just email her on nbnaturetrailvan@gmail.com and she will send 👍
This is really cool Sue - I think people will like it!
Thank you that's very kind of you Arild.
Yous have had no luck with storms. Looked grim indeed. Don't like driving in weather warnings maself like. Too many nutters on the roads. Our place went from mental snow to it aw melting in a few hours. Minnie Put disaster. Ye learn something new everyday.
Yep we probably should have stayed put in hindsight Kev. But the forecast was for rain and there were green fields around Keswick. Temps rose by six degrees by Lancaster! But it really wasn’t fun and wouldn’t want to do it again! The Minnie Pit was incredible. Standing there in the rain was just very strange - very evocative mate 😨
Oh my goodness indeed. A bench with a view. I must get down again there sometime. Stunning sunset too. 😎
Keswick is great Kev. Don’t bother with Ambleside or Bowness. They’re Just touristy. But Keswick feels like a mountain town. 👍👍
That was quite a storm, wow! Yikes, I wouldn't want to be driving a Motorhome in the snow. Nice that the rain let up enough for you to get out for a walk and dinner! :) Cheers, Jen
Thanks Jen. No it wasn’t much fun. But in the end I didn’t last two long. Weird weather. The temperature rose about six degrees in 45 minutes. I suppose that’s the impact of the front moving fast!! The second day seemed worse with the winds even stronger so we did get buffeted about but all safe in the end. 👍
Hi both Wow - Scary stuff that?....🥺 Glad you came through it unscathed, never mind, I can't imagine it getting any worse than that, so you've got that driving experience under your belt Dave?
It wasn’t a lot of fun Steve! With hindsight, we should have stayed put - but the forecast was for rain not Snow and it was green fields when we left Keswick. But lesson learned! In a way, day two was the worst - the wind was brutal and the van really got buffeted - even with our semi air suspension. I think that was definitely our worst journey yet though - in January we had Storm Isha gales, in September it was Storm Boris Snow but then this one was Snow and Gales!! 🤦🏻♂️ Days like that you question why you’re out in Winter 😃😃 Have a lovely week mate.
That looks like some of the toughest travel I have seen you on. It the mercy of the weather always makes travel stressful. Have a great week Dave and Sue.
Hi mate. With hindsight we should have stayed put! It wasn’t fun. The second days journey was even worse as the winds were stronger. But in the end home safe. Hope you’re doing well Duane - missing your vlogs.
