    Halfvarson was wrong to have sounded throaty at the beginning as if thought he was strangling on his own voice. He also sounded woodsy at certain points. Fortunately he did sound better in the middle. Overall he wasn’t good in this performance but it could’ve been worse.

    Прошло всего около 6 лет как Аланья пел эту оперу с Вадува. Это было прекрасно!!! И через такой малый промежуток такой убитый, уставший, сухой голос. Георгиу плохо на него влияет.

      What?

      @Barone Vitellio Scarpia Samuel Ramey is my favorite singer of all time, so I also prefer him in either of these roles, but throaty isn't the right term to use. Both of these singers are among the most famous in the world for a reason, and their techniques are quite solid (although Halfvarson is well past his prime, of course). They wouldn't be able to carry over an orchestra if they were singing too "throaty" (which really means the tongue is pulled back and blocks sound energy from escaping, make it sound darker and more muffled).

    • @PeterBarber
      @PeterBarber 4 года назад

      @Barone Vitellio Scarpia Incorrect. Classical singers are supposed to have a lowered larynx when singing (especially low-voiced men) -- this allows for a larger, warmer sound. Constriction is a different topic, and comes from an actual over-compression of the vocal folds via the thyroarytenoid muscles, resulting in a build-up of subglottal pressure. This makes the sound "tight" -- I assure you that when the sound sounds like it's coming from further back in the throat, it's because of the hyoglossus pulling the tongue back to fabricate extra darkness. If you want to know more about the physiology of the voice, read Scott McCoy's textbook "Your Voice: An Inside View" 2nd edition.

    • @PeterBarber
      @PeterBarber 4 года назад

      @Barone Vitellio Scarpia And just to add on (since you mentioned Ramey), Ramey sang with a low larynx at all times (this is easily seen in a lot of videos of him), along with every other bass you probably enjoy listening to. It's a fundamental of the classical technique aside from tenors and female voice types in the extreme highs of their range.
