We tried The Yorkshire 3 peaks Challenge in the rain
A very rare kid free opportunity came to us thanks to the Scouts, we came to Yorkshire to do the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge.
Weather was rubbish, I would say that for the whole challenge what helped us most apart from strong minds was the OS map, we would be so lost without it!
Even we got crap weather, we still enjoyed the whole thing, a lot! Connecting with nature is always our favourite escape from day to day life.

    Hi, what were your timing estimates. For example, after your 1st coat how long did you wait before your next step 20, 30 min? And what steps did you do, for example 1st coat, 1st trowel 2nd coat etc

    • @kayprentice4879
      @kayprentice4879 9 месяцев назад

      I think between first coat and 2nd coat you have roughly around 20-30mins, I was a bit late on schedule as I never did it before and I wasn’t that fast with the applications, but luckily it worked out ok. I did first coat, then trowel, then second coat, then trowel, then wet trowel, then final polish. But I’m not a professional, you would learn much better if you go check out that guy I mentioned in my video, he is awesome! Good luck 😊

    I am really impressed, that was quite a big area to try and plaster for your first attempt and I personally think you did a fantastic job , just a little note and it's not a criticism in any way , the easifill 60 you used to fill out your joints can be used for fine filling any imperfections afterwards. I work on site as a plaster patcher and even the best plasterers still get imperfections, it's the nature of plastering , but we'll done I'm really impressed 👍

    With no training and your first attempt I think you’ve done a good job, first coat was probably a bit to thick as other people commenting have noticed…. But well done. I’ve done the 5 day course at the local college which is ok and teaches you the basics for skimming. But after that you just have to keep practicing and learning, I too watch Blaine on his plastering channel and it’s helpful, I’ve watched for hours. Another good channel is ‘on the trowel’ with Kirk, check that out too, all the best keep it up

    I am also an amateur at plastering, but have plastered 5-6 walls already. I was way worse than you at the start... One thing I noticed - your plaster was mixed way too thick, you shouldn't need much force to apply it to the wall. I am surprised you did such a good job nonetheless - seems like you have the talent for this.

    • @kayprentice4879
      @kayprentice4879 10 месяцев назад

    I too learnt from watching Blain's channel. Congrats on doing your first wall and well done - that looks great on here. The only thing I would ad to your tool set (and this is personal, so it may not help), but I found the marshalltown squeegee helpful as I was frequently going back over the existing bits I'd plastered and kept on messing them up. That tool helped me get the plaster on and flat before it started setting, improving the end result no end. Forget the speed skims, unless you've got a particularly uneven wall that you are flattening Well done - you can come and fix mine ;)
