3 WEEKS?! Ah.......I can't imagine. Can't. It's all so familiar. The early morning silence is so necessary. Good cast.
That was one of the great thing about record albums. They had plenty of room for credits. Of course they had people that were paid to do all that
Whoa, why am I late for this collab, you two are GOATS
Great interview Andrew. Austin is very talented and interesting to hear his backstory.
Such a great video. Was it the weather outside my house? Was it the time of day I watched? Was it the fact I had no honey-do/daddy-do list? Perhaps all the above! At any rate: loved it!!
This is dope!
This was fantastic and Austin's talk about weekly routine and work schedule near the end was really dope - very valuable to me
if they all sound so different, 12:05 , then it’s all placebo
Nah, go listen to them. Genelecs, ATCs, Ex Machinas, and Barefoots sound night and day different from each other.
@@MakePopMusic so what’s the point? isn’t the point to know what you’re hearing? transparency?
@@johnviera3884 I work on both Ex Machinas and ATC's extensively. Here's my experience: The Ex Machinas feel life-like in a way that most monitors don't. I find they are much more fatiguing to listen to than other monitors, but the trade-off is a level of detail I haven't heard in most monitors. Absolutely larger than life. When I'm using the Ex Machinas, I'm at a studio recording primarily acoustic music - folk and jazz. For this genre, I love the Ex Machinas. For music like that, the detail is not fatiguing. Instead they help you chase the goal of a beautiful hi-fi acoustic recording. You hear noise issues very clearly, you hear subtle distortion easily that would be inappropriate for jazz, but would be totally permissable in other genres. If I tried to mix a pop record on the ex-machinas, I would under-compensate with a dark and undercompressed mix. My ATCs are used primarily for mixing, and I'm mixing mostly rock and pop. They are MUCH less fatiguing in my personal opinion. I feel that they are much less bright. Low-mids are very different too. Because they sound less exciting to me, it forces me to push the mix further and end up with the right top end and an exciting amount of compression and saturation. I've used many different models of ATCs in different rooms at this point, and used many speakers alongside the Ex Machinas. There are certainly common themes between the ATCs, even though they're in different rooms. Of course, the room will play a role in that, but the Ex Machinas revealed things that other speakers didn't *in that room* with the same monitoring environment. Is this due to lack of transparency in other monitors? Perhaps, I'm not sure. This is why you have companies that chase the mathematically perfect speaker, like the Meyersound HD1s 20 years ago. Some love them, some don't. The Ex Machinas to me are the same, and Barefoots also have a similar philosophy. ATCs for example seem to have a broader appeal - maybe they're less perfect and more pleasant to listen to. Hard to say. Anyway, different monitors tell you different information, and total transparency isn't necessarily the goal for everyone and every genre.
@@johnviera3884 That is the misconception with monitors. It's much more to do with how your ears interpret the monitors. You can mix on just about any monitor at the end of the day. You have to learn whichever monitors you're using. If you don't know them like the back of your hand, you won't make good mixes. Wether they're K'Rocks or ATC, doesn't matter. You have to learn them.
Yoo this was such a blast! Thank you for having me on. I need to come back up to Nashville so we can hang again!
Such a good interview
Love both y’all’s channels - great collab 🤙🏼
16:12😂
Been waiting for this one🤝🏼
Andrew: I’m such an annoying person Austin immediately answers: Sure
lol
Lolol Andrew is the best!
I wonder if he liked the amphions one18s from listening to what he had to say sounds like the Strauss SE-NF-3 would be the perfect monitor for him and an extra pair of TANNOY GOLD 8 for that vibe when producing
I hated the Amphions honestly. I know people who love them but they were definitely not for me personally.
This couldn’t have been more perfect I love welshly arms band ❤I don’t listen to anything else ❤
A. Very interesting guest.
Writing my list for tomorrow's studio work while listening to this podcast!
Brandon is a killer producer, mixer and songwriter based out of Nashville, and great friend of mine. Hit that subscribe button!
This was cool. I don't know how many other 2 hour videos I've watched... like... ever. I did find myself saying "Woa - let go of the mic, push it away about six inches and then leave yer paws off it for the rest of the video." That's my "Well who asked you for your opinion anyway, dude?" comment. 😄
32:00 dude, I don't even understand how it is up to debate. Obviously, unequivocally, irrevocably, universally true forever. This is a fact, not an opinion.
These are great to listen to while on the road. Thanks for the great content Andrew!
Great interview!! Really enjoyed you both! And it’s no because I’m Johnny’s mom🤪
Awesome. Two of my favorites. Funny you didn't reverse the direction of Colt so you not both sitting the same direction. Obviously for a podcast audio doesn't matter, but interesting to watch. Big thanks and thumbs up.
Turn on Focus Peaking to help with manual focus. 💛
Yes this is fine, but there needs to be a balance. When I was working in recording, I had two unpaid internships at studios where they literally only let me clean and get coffee and that kinda stuff for 4 months. It gets demoralizing. I understand it's a character test and I made sure to fully apply myself to what they were asking me to do, but it's demoralizing to someone who wants to actually learn recording arts if all you are doing is other work around the studio. My third internship, I did some of that stuff, but the studio owner also made sure I was able to spend some time observing and eventually participating in the sessions. Needless to say that one was much better. I feel from my experiences that a lot of engineers make interns do that because that's what they had to do, and don't actually think about creating the most beneficial experience for both themselves and the intern.
Cause we're gonna be legends Gonna teach them all a lection Got this feeling in our souls we carry It's about to legendary ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Good interview. You gotta stay on the right side of the line though. Watching this video is very disorienting. Going full Kubrick on us lol.

Who is this Mike guy? I’m actually interested lol
Great episode
Great episode. I'm a fan of both of you, so to hear you guys sitting in the same room talking about the path you took to get where you are was super interesting and insightful. Thanks for taking the time to do that and for sharing your experiences with us.
Hey , Andrew I've been meaning to ask . Are no longer doing studio Tours ?
What brand of keyboard stsnd
What camera and lens are you using for your video/podcast content?
lol thus far I've used a different setup each shoot. The final setup is R5 w/ 50 mm 1.8, R8 with 15-35mm 2.8 but i'm gonna have to get 24-70 going forward.
100% agree, its a plank of wood with strings... the magic is in the player not the instrument
the title hahahhaa
Loved this!
I wonder how much debt Colt has…
I’ve been watching Mike from around 10k. It has been a very satisfying journey watching his channel grow!
I used to work with a young guitarist who has every guitar he's ever owned since he was about 10. Dozens of them. he could not understand why one day I got rid of 6 guitars and basses I had just tossed into a closet. I'm like Colt. It's a tool. It either does a job or it's gone. All my gear, software etc - just tools. If it's not being used regularly it's gone and replaced with a tool that I will use. Or maybe a nice dinner with my wife. So hammer away! Beat those guitars up!
I’m cringing so hard. Taking care of your instrument is not super difficult and the costs of repairs and preventable work done if not maintained isn’t something I can afford.
It's "Hammer! Go, Hammer! MC Hammer! Yo, Hammer!" And the rest can go and play...
Seems like Colt is the one interviewing Andrew 😢
Right? Colt is on some Joe Rogan-type sh
These clips are so good lol!

Not me singing along to the outro music!😭❤️🔥
This is great. It is not getting the love it deserves. I would put it on the main channel. The first thing I do every Monday is look for your video and I had no idea this was out there.
The quality of the podcast looks and obviously sounds great! Would love to help you out somehow
Nice job boys!!! The two best and most most insightful content creators on the subject in one room! I hope you both know just how valuable and impactful what you both are doing is. You're efforts are much appreciated. Keep up the great work!
That was awesome!
