The Return of Mid Carolina Speedway
Labeled as "South Carolina's Fastest 1/4 Mile Dirt Track," Mid Carolina Speedway would become one of the most popular race tracks in the Southeastern United States for Flat Track Motorcycle Racing. A track built solely for motorcycles to compete on, would showcase the best riders in the region and over time, the nation.
After nearly 20 years of operation the track began to struggle and risked going away completely, but thanks to a dedicated groups of individuals, this track has been saved from obscurity and is having a resurgence of epic proportions!!

So cool to see the story of this place documented. Thank you Scotty!
Incredible video! It definitely got me feeling nostalgic and wanting to get my racing boots on. I'd love to come down soon and see the track I grew up on again ❤
Nice history lesson and I am really happy that track is back.
Amazing Video! Special thanks to all involved bringing this place back we loved it and can’t wait to come back!
There was actually a AMA Grand National race for a few years in the late 70's at the Cow palace in San Francisco - concrete track and all. The Cow Palace track was larger than this, but it was still a *short* track. I saw King Kenny win one night on a Yammie 360. Good times. :-)
@@stevehageman6785 I've seen some videos of that place and it looked sick. Indoor short tracks aren't everyone's cup of tea but I still enjoy going up to Timonium. And the track in Salem, Oregon looks awesome!
In the late 70's in Northern Calif. We had indoor 'Cement' short tracks in the winter. To get the tires 'sticky', people would spray 'Engine Start' on them, the whole place smelled of Either. Looking back I am surprised that the whole place didn't just blow up one night! Ha, ha, ha, ha.....
Awesome job putting that all together. Great to see!
Nice job!
Nice job and you got it up quickly too. Looks like Sammy is ok too, just scraped up a bit.
Nicely done Scotty!
I think I speak for all the proud parents of racers, and the racers themselves. THANK YOU for the awesome footage. after 5 years of racing, this is the best video of Franko88 ever!
Exited to see what 2025 has planned for us💪
Outlawing the Indian was a gig mistake!
Itt's sad ATF hasn't' put together a schedule. That's a bad sign. I've been watching the decline of racing for years. Cost and viewership makes sponsorship opportunity scarce. I hope they can continue because it's always a great show.
That looks like fun 😬
I always support my Pennsylvania riders - Go Cam !
2025 Is going to be interesting to say the least. AFT has come to a crossroad, I hope they choose the right direction 🙏
#MAKEAMERICANFLATTRACKGREATAGAIN
Great analysis.
Could be me but I cant help but feel like they f-ded up by banning the indians. They just showed ((again) (british bikes and later japanese bikes written out of the rulebook) they dont really want innovation in the sport. If there is no innovation, why should riders, big brands and fans invest their time if your brand or favourite is just going to be written out of the rulebook after a few seasons in favour of stuff thats already been used since the 60's do you really want to turn it into a form of speedway where they still use a very ristrictive rulebook and 40's technology? I was actually exited to see yamaha and honda close the gap to the indians all be it with ristrictors help but still thats better than outright banning a brand and losing all that marketing as well. Next season they will move away from light and nimble almost prototype flattrackers and move to bigger bulkier machines again with more mass. Wich takes away from the sport I think and increases risks for the riders as well. So I fully understand Kopp for choosing for a road racing career over an organisation that just essentially banned its biggest posterboy/marketingtool/brand. I dont think they realised what Indian and to a lesser exstent royal enfield brought to the table in terms of marketing for the sport on a worldwide level.
There is a line in "The Eight Laws of the Fist" from the Bubishi that says "you must strike when the opportunity presents itself." Smart move for Kody Kopp but a definite loss for AFT.
Great episode. Agree, the series is in a valley. Getting tougher to remain optimistic on AFTs management.
A schedule any day now would help but I fear that AFT is an afterthought to a lot of the premier facilities.
@ I’m a 66 year old that’s been riding since I was 10. Although never a flat track racer (enduros & hare scrambles), it’s always been my favorite to spectate. Never understood why it’s never reached the height of GP or MX. I feel the talent of the riders in FT sometimes exceeds the skill of race series that pay big bucks. Frustrating seeing MX racers purses in millions for going boing-boing (yes there’s skill but…). The manufacturers are to blame as well as the management of AFT. Go into any showroom, won’t see many displays or promotions of FT, just road racing and MX. Just as soon as I win a couple million on a scratch-off, I’m calling CTR and have him buy the series and MAFTGA. Time to market red ball caps with that…

Great! Some quality streaming will really help move this along. (not on FLO at 180.00 per year) What ever it takes!

Way to go Corey! Congratulations Sammy!
I sure hope Cory's series is very successful. Congratulations to Sam Halbert and a HUGE thank you to Mission Foods for all they do for racing.
Thanks for the shout out Scotty T! Appreciate you and grateful for your content.
@@CoryTexter thank you and Mission Foods for helping keep Flat Track alive!
It would be great for the fans to see that type of racing but AFT would never get involved with an event like that. It’s a shame This would help boost the numbers of entries and fans watching
Hey Scotty, great job on the season recap👍 was wondering, what part of the country are you located? Are you able to get to most of the races? I’m in TN and made it to four this year, including Lake Ozark. Man, what an awesome track and race 🏁 looking forward to 2025. 😊
@@philthome1303 thank you for the kind words. I am in Charlotte, NC and unfortunately with working 2 jobs, I was not able to make any AFT races this year
@@FlatTrackFlashback sorry to hear that. Hopefully things get better and we’ll start seeing you at the tracks🏁 keep up the good work 👍
@@philthome1303 I will be at Cory Texter's Winter Throwdown Event in January. I HIGHLY recommend coming down for that if you're able to.
@@FlatTrackFlashback where is it? FL?
I actually like your world vs usa idea and i especially like the speedway format. Speedway GP runs a tight program. Will be interesting to hear Sammy 's thoughts on that FIM approach.
Outlawed why ?
@@davidvanbrunt4233 the new rules package for upcoming American Flat Track seasons doesn't allow for those bikes to compete. The twins class will be production based in coming years.
Drove to Springfield from Utah to watch the back to back same day miles, then stayed in the area, drove down through St. Louis to Eldon to watch history unfold. Was fortunate enough to go to the end of year AFT awards banquet/ceremony as well. Spectacular season.
Great summary. You should be hired by AMA, AFT, Cycle News or Sideburn. You bring in a lot of history, background and other information way beyond race results and you do it with good wording and analogies. Outstanding work.
Where did you get that seatpan!? Painted one for either Joe Duvall or Gary Baylor back in the day(Gary was a ft mechanic out of Tulsa)
@@MotoMemeMedia I had to double check with my dad on this. The seat pad is from Saddleman. The tank and seat were painted by William Wheaton.
Thanks for investing the time and efforts to bring your balanced take of the flat track world to us fans. Not just here on this channel, but also with The Flying Tomato on The Sideways Podcast!
Pray for pfanders
Love the new podcast, but these videos are great too. Sorry if you've already told the story, but how'd you end up with one of Will Davis' bikes?
@@_Bryant.R hey man I appreciate your kind words and thank you so much for listening to The Sideways Podcast!!! Kolby and I care a great deal about that project. The bike behind me actually is not a bike of Will's. We bought it from Jim Kostelic in Ohio and had a tank and the seat painted as a tribute for Will's TCR days. Will was my hero growing up and those TCR colors will always be iconic!!
LOSE THE NOSE RING.
Correction: With 3 rounds to go in 2023, Tom Drane trailed Kody Kopp in the Singles points by 49 points not 39 points
Go back to cincy pls
