Häxan: The Silent Nightmare That Exposed the Dark History of Witchcraft

A fusion of documentary and horror, Häxan explores the history of witchcraft, demonic possession, and medieval superstitions, bringing nightmarish imagery to life with eerie reenactments and unsettling visuals. Directed by Benjamin Christensen, this film d...

    Still the greatest horror film of all time in my opinion!!!! Its the only zombie film that felt like you were already fucked & gonna die from the minute the eerie intro music & title starts 💯 Ppl that grew up there whole entire lives already know what a zombie is if they were born after this film came out but if u juyput your mind & yourself into this movie & the time period it takes place in & was made in , its 100x more terrifying than any other zombie film & horror film !!!! I gotta put yourself in their shoes just like the audience had to when this film first came out!!!! Just imagine u didn't know wtf a zombie was or wtf was really going on & the dead stared coming back to life & eating everyone especially if you're stuck in a deserted farm house miles from civilization with basically no weapons & a bunch of scared ppl that don't want to work together because everyone is still trying to figure out wtf is going on!!!! That's literally the midset u have to use when u go into this film !!!!!! Otherwise don't watch it unless u already love it like i do🙄🥱

      Absolutely, man! You nailed it. Night of the Living Dead isn’t just a horror movie-it’s pure dread from the opening scene to the devastating ending. The isolation, the unknown, the sheer hopelessness of it all-nothing else captures that creeping sense of inevitable doom quite like this film. And like you said, back when it came out, audiences didn’t have decades of zombie lore to fall back on-this was new, unexplained, and absolutely terrifying. If you put yourself in that mindset, it hits way harder. Respect for appreciating it the way it was meant to be experienced!

    • @MysteryCompendium
      @MysteryCompendium 13 дней назад

      Absolutely! Count Orlok’s inhuman, almost rat-like appearance in 1922 taps into something deeply unsettling-he feels like a true creature of the night, not just a refined aristocrat. The exaggerated features, eerie movements, and use of shadows make him one of the most haunting depictions of a vampire ever put to film. The Vlad the Impaler-inspired look has its own menace, but Orlok? Pure nightmare fuel.

But these losers at work “that’s white people rap” how?! Cause he put thought into his lyrics? Because he doesn’t have generic trap beats? He doesn’t pretend to be a thug? Switch 2 is just good business sense like you said. Nintendo knows they need to feed the fans to stay alive and the Switch 2 seems to really deliver functionality on an already relatively functional device. Nintendo has been operating under this fun and function first ideology for some time now in their development and it is a winning strategy. Tony and John Gilroy for Michael Clayton. Polanski and Deneuve for Repulsion. Sidney Lumet for The Verdict. Nicholas Mayer for Star Trek 2. And Tarantino (again) for True Romance. When I was growing up, the DVD copy of Disney's' Brother Bear had two discs. The first was the basic movie, while the second had a bunch of bonus features. Among those features was an audio commentary from Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas as their characters in the movie (a pair of moose based off their Bob and Doug Mckenzie routine). The whole length they stay in character, but speak of their insights as if they were moose actors hired by Disney. Near the beginning they reference ordering a pizza because they're hungry, and by the third act, they had the pizza guy show up and briefly join their commentary. As a little kid, this was the funniest feature they included and it frustrated me to find out that wasn't more common. Great video!

    Sometimes, it's the act of defiance that leads us to the most unexpected discoveries.

    Kurt and John's commentary for Big Trouble in Little China is a similarly laidback laugh/love fest, with a lot of conversational tangents derailing the movie talk. A big fave of mine. Also, aaages ago I made a supercut of Arnie's contributions to the Total Recall commentary track: ruclips.net/video/ncR2_pnzngM/видео.html

    The fake film historian commentary for the Coen Bros' "Blood Simple" is really something. Long out of print but preserved here on RUclips ruclips.net/video/f3wtwJv1meo/видео.htmlsi=BeOEBrsnvIMCqiAG

      Thanks for sharing this! It's like a hidden treasure of film history (or anti-history, as they'd have it). What a brilliant piece of the Coen Bros' legacy to revisit.

    That spinal tap commentary is classic

      Absolutely-This Is Spinal Tap is legendary for a reason! That blend of razor-sharp satire and painfully relatable absurdity hits so perfectly. The way it captures the chaos of creative egos, like the Stonehenge disaster or the tiny bread incident, is just chef’s kiss. It’s not just comedy; it’s a mirror for the madness of ambition. What’s your favorite moment?

    I actually looked up the tall man's height a few weeks ago. We are the same height 6'3. My dad was 6'7 and I always thought he was that tall. Then I realized how small most celebrities are

      6'3 is an imposing height-no wonder the Tall Man feels so otherworldly to you! It’s fascinating how height changes perception, especially when we’re used to towering figures like your dad or the legends of cinema. Perhaps that’s part of the magic of the Tall Man-his presence feels larger than life, even when the numbers tell a different story. Maybe he casts a shadow that stretches beyond mere inches.

    If there is a potential remake of this,Michael Shannon could be a good choice for this role

      Michael Shannon as the Tall Man-what an intriguing thought! His intensity and commanding presence could definitely channel that otherworldly menace Angus Scrimm brought to the role. It's fascinating to imagine how his take might reshape the Tall Man's eerie, enigmatic aura. A remake like that could truly haunt a new generation of horror fans!
