Eigil and I both attended Fashion Institute in NY and though we didn’t know each other at the time we were hired as co-managers of a new boutique store on the upper east side. We worked well together, getting the store up and running and managing the day to day operations. Eigil was friendly though somewhat reserved, personable, knowledgeable on fashion and generally good with customers. We didn’t hangout after work but we did become friends, bonding through our love for fashion and FIT. On slow days at the store I would notice him either reading a book or lost in deep thoughts and looking very worried. He came across to me as being overly trusting and a bit naïve. I figured this would all change in time as he became a more savvy New Yorker. One day he didn’t show up for work and after not hearing from him for days, myself, and the staff became very worried. I remember receiving calls from both his roommate and his sister. I made a decision to keep the store’s music system tune to 24 hour news so we can hear updates. I believe three weeks had passed when I heard on the the radio “ The partially mutilated and burnt body of Eigil Vesti has been found in Rockland County”. I immediately felt sick to the stomach. We closed the store for the remainder of the day.
I loved seeing how the house came together! You did a really great job and it came out fantastic. Duke is so cute
Thank you, I am really happy with how it came out. And Duke is the best 😊
Hi, thanks for video. is it possible connect this light box with internet?
@@joske5216 The lightbox in the video is a bit older (around 2019 maybe?) So no, it does not connect to the internet. I think there are some more updated ones now that let you connect to your computer with a USB cable, but I don’t know if the newer ones let you connect to the internet.
Absolutely one of my favorite artists of all time! And your painting turned out so beautifully :-) I’ve really been thinking about getting a light box, but not for the traditional purposes of transferring. I have a problem with my eyes and surrounding light bouncing off the paper really makes doing artwork hard for me… I had an idea that maybe I could just do my drawings directly on top of the lightbox , especially if it had a setting for dimmer and brighter. I will have to try it and see… But I’m really enjoying your videos and I love this storytelling style while watching the artwork! Thank you.❤️
@@creativesolutionstoart isn’t Mucha great? I just love the style, and I also found his life fascinating. A lightbox is such a useful tool to have. You can get a decent one for a reasonable price and there are so many things you can do with one. If you have an eye issue it might be worth it to pick one up to see if it helps. I have several videos on my channel going through different ways to use the lightbox as well.
Wow, awesome!!! I used to really dislike gouache , but then I started to do what you were talking about, which was work with its properties and not against them. @@JaimeLeighArt OK, thank you yeah, that was a nice photo reference… And I will be trying this out today! I know most illustrators were using paper/illustration board, and I most likely will not be doing this on canvas so we will see how it holds up on watercolor paper :-)

Yay - Like #1 ! Can't recall ever seeing this method of using gouache. Kinda like a cross between opaque watercolour washes and wiping out (like with oils). It is interesting tho and does have a certain quality. For me I like the flat, matt, clean colour application that gouache gives, but I also love to experiment coz you just never know what you'll get so I may give this a try! Well done for (re)introducing this technique!
Thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, I have seen a similar technique like this done with oils, too. I hope you give it a try, I think you'll find it fun and you can get as loose and free - or as detailed - as you want to with this way of doing gouache. I have seen some gouache illustrators do sunlight through leaves with this technique and it's mind blowing! I also left a link to my reference photo in the description if you want to do the painting in this video. Have a great day!
Really interesting to learn about someone preceding Hilma after Klint
Yes, a lot of scholars attribute "first" status to Hilma, and it's fascinating that Georgiana worked so hard and was lost in the shuffle. Not that Hilma's accomplishments were any less, of course, both women were important for what they contributed!
@@JaimeLeighArt I have a book called Hilma - Artist Researcher Medium, published by Moderna Musset, and Georgiana is mentioned in it.
Have you ever heard of Elmyr de Hory? Do you think he would have gotten away with his art forgery for so long in today's world? I'd love to hear your thoughts below!

Fact check: Fuller Building is on 57th and Madison Ave....not the Flatiron Building, which is on lower 5th Avenue....
Sorry for the confusion, the Flatiron Building was originally called the Fuller Building so I thought they were connected. My mistake! Sorry about that.
@@JaimeLeighArt Ironically, I was sitting in the park next to the the Flatiron on 23st and Fifth Ave when I started watching this video.
I'm wondering if prosecutors looked hard enough for evidence that Crispo accompanied Bernard to the murder site....for example video cameras along the way, at gas stations, or public buildings. Back then they had fewer cameras than now, but they did exist.
To my understanding, they didn't really look too hard for that type of evidence? Allegedly, they did have evidence that Crispo was at the Legeros house the night Vesti died, so why wouldn't they use that evidence? Goodness only knows...
I chatted with him on the phone once, creepiest conversation and experience of my life- I was just reminded of his name while researching some art, his gallery came up. I never met him in person thank god. He was a demon.

Very well done. You went in depth. Only thing I have different is that the second fire was caused by lightning. I trust your source more though.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. There was a lot of conflicting source information about this story. I think it relates to how sensationalized it was at the time.
The fuller bldg is NOT the flat iron bldg
The flat iron building was originally referred to as the Fuller building when it was built in the early 1900s because the client was the Fuller Construction Company.
@@JaimeLeighArtBe that as it may, Andrew Crispo's gallery was at the Fuller Building at 41 E. 57th Street.
Yeah I thought the two were connected- my mistake!
Wow... this is touched upon very briefy i think in the book Murder Along The Way, where i just finished reading the chapters dealing with the Death Mask murder. Without knowing anything about this case presented here, except what you presented here in part 1, I am going with suicide. Why ?? There is enough things occurring here where she may have at least considered it. Another possible and perhaps more probable scenario: unintentional suicide by accidently falling from opened window. I am going with that based on my own personal experiences with stress induced vertigo, along with my own fear of falling. Your videos are very very well done. Will be sure to watch part II over the weekend.
Honestly, this case is so frustrating to me because it wasn't investigated very well, and I just wonder if more answers could have been brought to light if it had been. There are just several scenarios that make sense, and with Carl unable to fully articulate what happened that night, all we have is speculation. This is one of those cases that stays with me, because if it was truly an accident, it ruined 2 peoples' lives.
@@JaimeLeighArt wholeheartedly agree.
Ok, part II to my original comment: I think the most astonishing thing about this case is how Mr Crispo was never charged, even though apparently he bragged about it. Mr Legros I feel did not commit this murder because he wanted to, but because he felt he had to. Big difference there. It is commendable that Mr Legros told the truth about what went down to the best of his ability. Now that he has been set free, I can't help but wonder if those two have since had any contact together.... Regarding the explosion, it does make one wonder... But one thing cannot be denied: drugs, cocaine in particular makes people act very irrational and do things they would otherwise not do. That's my opinion. If it is true that Mr Crispo has a new gallery, I for one would like to visit it, not because of anything having to do with this case, but because of my understanding of how great his previous galley was. To meet the man behind the art would really be something. NYC during that time period, the mid 70s, mid 80s, was totally out of control. How many young men cruised the area south of 14th street and never were seen again ?? Watch Cruising.... and if you can, a version with the directors commentary which to me is just as important as the film. I think there is also a short film called The Making Of Cruising or something like that, that is worth seeing as well. On a side note, good luck with your new family member ❤ This past August, I said goodbye to the best friend I ever had, the dog in my profile picture who at age 2 was condemned to death. The person who rescued this dog did her no favors by keeping the poor dog either locked in a crate or tethered outside, all alone. One day the pup looked me in the eyes and said though them please get me out of here, I'll be the best dog ever, and I struck a deal and adopted her. For 13 years and 1 month Loki was in my care, and she indeed was the best dog in the world. When she crossed the Rainbow Bridge at age 15 years 6 months, my heart was broken, and even now, 6 months later, I wonder how it can continue to go on, as the loss is so huge to me. But back to your video, I found it to be well researched and presented. I look forwards to seeing additional videos from your channel. Blessings ❤❤❤
I had also wondered while looking over the information on this case How many other men disappeared who didn't have their disappearance go nationwide? From what it seemed like, the scene was pretty dangerous, and people didn't seem overly interested in young men going missing around these clubs - this one only blew up because the person involved was slightly famous. As for not being charged, the police seemed to have their reasons but I don't think all of them were aboveboard, if that makes sense. You might see what I mean when you get to that section of Bag of Toys. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the rest of the video, and thank you for the compliments. I am a stickler for researching and trying to present the most accurate story I can with the information I am given. If you would like to stick with NYC as a setting, I did a two-part video about the death of Ana Mendieta in the same time frame as this one - 1985 in NYC. The accused - artist Carl Andre, her husband, just passed in January of this year so sad to say the real reason for her death may remain a mystery. Sadly, our little puppy's health issues were too overwhelming for her little body, but we are so happy we got to take care of her during her time here on Earth. I send my sympathy about your Loki, it sounds like she had a wonderful life. We went through something similar when our Boxer that we'd had for 9 years passed away in 2021. It's been over 2 years and we are still heartbroken. Thank you for taking the time to watch my video and for your comments and feedback. Have a wonderful day!
@JaimeLeighArt I will !! ...and yes, as I continue to dive into Bag Of Toys, I will certainly consider what you have mentioned. I'm sorry about your little special friend, know that the tiny pup lives within your hearts forever ♥️
Ha Ha... sounds like my place 20 - 25 years ago ❤
This is really fascinating. I remember all those clubs, but strangely enough never heard of Andrew until after the fact, however a friend of mine who i went to Ft Hamiltion HS with named Jane went to FIT close to the time the Noweigan student was attending. Ill have to try and track her down to see if she knew him. Im reading Bag Of Toys right now, its quite fascinating and covers this case well. Have you seen the film Cruising ?? With Al Pachino ? Thats pretty close to what it was like a few years earlier. Im about half way through your video, will finish watching it either later today or tomorrow.
Thanks for checking out the video, I hope you enjoy watching the rest of it. It’s a wild story and really speaks to the time and place the events took place. I really felt like Eigil was just a naive kid who got caught up in the scene and it took over his life. I wonder if your friend had the same impression of him? Bag of Toys is well researched and packed full of details, I just thought the timeline was very helter skelter! Made it hard to keep track of everything, but definitely worth the read. I will check out Cruising, I have never seen it.
@JaimeLeighArt Cruising is a murder mystery based in the West Village, and it is based on the book of the same title, which is based on I believe actual murders which were occurring during that time period, which would be 1960s. Cruising takes place in or around 1980. Many of the club scenes were filmed in the Hellfire club, and it is interesting in that it captured a time in NYC that no longer exists today, or since the mid 80s for that matter, late 80s for sure. Many of the actors as far as the detectives go were infact the actual members of the NYPD assigned to the actual cases, so from a historical document to me, it's a very important film. I'd be very curious as to what you think of it. Not sure how you will screen it, but there's no less than 3 or 4 versions out there, with my favorite being the original big box FOX video tape, that's as close to the original as possible. The first DVD is good, and I know there is a new version also on blu-ray. I'm told the Japanese Lazer disk is the wildest version of all, and the one format I am still on the look out for. I'm astonished that I never went in the Hellfire Club, as it intrigued me very much what that scene was all about, but I used to enjoy walking around that area at night during 1985 or so, and strangely enough always felt very safe there for reasons I cannot explain. I definitely look forwards to finish watching your video tomorrow morning, and am very happy I discovered your channel here.
Real artist doesn't trace images.
Actually, that is inaccurate- I was taught by an artist who worked at an advertising agency for 30 years as an illustrator and he and most other illustrators used tracing daily. Artists throughout history have traced also, including Picasso, Degas, Andy Warhol and Leonardo da Vinci. Tracing is a valuable skill and learning tool for beginning artists, as well as a time saver for professionals who work to deadlines. Now, tracing someone else’s work and selling it as one’s own is unethical and wrong, but that’s not what this video showcases. This is me using a lightbox to trace a photo I took myself. Clearly, we can agree to disagree on this, but on my channel I support art in all its forms and strongly disagree that there is only one way to be a “real artist.” Have a good day.
Amazing!
I forgot to say where is Crispo today??
As far as I can tell, he still lives in New York City and opened a new version of the Andrew Crispo Gallery which appears to still be in operation. He went through bankruptcy court in the 90’s and sold many paintings in his private collection to pay back the people he owed.
He died 3 weeks ago from the complications from a brain operation
