Poem by Hone Tuwhare from 1975 NZ Maori Land protest march
In 1975 I made a documentary following a historic Maori protest march from the top of the North Island of New Zealand to the Parliament in Wellington. The marchers were protesting about the alienation of their tribal lands. On the march was a well known local poet. He wrote this poem and we filmed footage to cover it...

Family matters and fatherhood are something Frank has no clue what so ever. A man has to spend time with his wife and children in order to understand how a family functions. Look into how Valley Girls originated and you'll find that his daughter came up with the idea in order to spend time with her Dad who almost never was there and when he was he slept or was in his studio and was not to be disturbed. I love Frank but to hear him talk with authority on a subject foreign to him has to be mentioned...TY

Zappa was 100% right but even he didn't see how bad things would become. Now, it's no longer a right wing control system. It's a left too. In fact, it's no longer either. Myabe it always WAS a corporate and political one. With no actual sides? Plus, now, there's ENDLESS garbage online. Created to manipulate us to make us de sensitized to what they NEED us to be apathic to and emotionally vunerable to be the same media (better known as propaganda to keep us at each other's throats while not thinking clearly). All the movements of the left, that Zappa saw the beginnings of before/during the 60s, were by the early 90s, close to selling out to the same control system they'd used to be the counter point to. Look at all the left leaning shows which are either one sided, hosted by talented people who have become political zombies or others who clearly have to be careful what they say. Zappa's attitudes and comments here ARE still on point except, things have gotten worse than he coul ever foresee. If alive NOW? He'd be considered a huge threat to both rigth and left, as well as the REAL people pulling their strings. WHY? Because people who think for themselves, are smart to see past their own ego and have never allowed the oprions of others to pollute/compromise their world view = are DANGEROUS. He was cynic and distrusted everyone. Plus, he was both unwilling to compromise, as well as dificult. He was outside the 'echo chamber' and wanted it that way. But, again, he knew, having cancer he wouldn't have to worry about seeing the shit REALLY hit the fan. RIP Frank Zappa. We do miss you. BOY, do we miss you

I attended two of Franks concerts in 79 and 81 at the Alladin theater for the performing arts in las Vegas when stationed there in the Air Force. The best concerts I’ve ever been to. Frank was genius, a wordsmith and a visionary. He saw exactly what the Reagan republicans were trying to do, turning America into a theocracy. I only wish he were around today, he would be shredding maga to pieces!

I think a lot like Frank but he is just so much better at articulating his thoughts than I. Particularly at 5:11 when he talks about American fathers being portrayed as stupid. This has now broadened to include almost all male characters in children's movies and tv show.s The males are depicted as stupid and weak and the females as wise and strong.

it is hard to agree with Frank here as t.v has been dummy-downed so much more..! Pay t.v was just winding up and satellite tv- where i lived- if you had one of those, consider it the earliest version of the internet.. But bang-on the horror of this open communication in the US and Canada to all institutions- white, non-descript vans parked outside suburban homes working for the FEDERAL GOV't looking to incarcerate folks who were rabbit-earring their way to free pay-t.v signals.. Canada ain't free;) But Zappa's keen eye to to basic stupidity of the brain regardless is always steady, unwavering and correcto-mondo.. Truly, Zappa never let the main source of his entertainment be marshalled out to any corp. and remained firmly in his control. main source of his entertainment? HIS BRAIN:) viva Zappa!

Life is imitating art in 2024. With social media giving people the ability to fuel their narcissistic desires you have people speaking like movie characters. I had an acquaintance of mine tell a couple of us at the bar one night during a heated political debate “men like me can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Men like me just want to watch the world burn.”. 😂😂 his girlfriend luckily told us all that that was a quote from a Batman movie and rolled her eyes at him. But art no longer reflects life. It romanticizes it in a very dishonest way.
