LYRICS: Christmas shoppers shopping on a neon city street Another Christmas dollar for another Christmas treat There's satin on the pretty dolls that make the children glow While a boy walking ragged in the cold Kentucky snow No, they don't have Christmas in Kentucky There's no holly on a West Virginia door For the trees don't twinkle when you're hungry And the Jingle Bells don't jingle when yo...

"The song was first performed publicly by Pete Seeger and Lee Hays on June 3, 1949 at St. Nicholas Arena on W. 66th Street in New York at a testimonial dinner for the leaders of the Communist Party of the United States, who were then on trial in federal court, charged with violating the Smith Act by advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government. It was not particularly successful when it was ...

"Who were the Hollywood Ten? This 1950 documentary gives us a closer look at the ten blacklisted film writers and directors who defied the government and the sentiments of their day by refusing to testify during the HUAC anti-Communist hearings. John Berry, who directed the documentary, was blacklisted himself upon its release." (Ironweed Films)

Guess who was the Hollywood 11th? Who, moreover, answered the Committee's questions by breaking the agreement made between the accused? Bertolt Brecht, the "communist" who never was, who never was what he preached.

I just happened to buy a bell about 2 weeks ago. Today (post election results) my daughter told me just didn't feel safe and so she bought herself a hammer. Now all we need is a song of freedom.

The beautifulness of this time period which I grew up in, songs were simple and performed in a innocent sounding vibe, although at 70 I still find that some old tunes are still timeless, I listen to Rock/Metal/Reggae/New Folk and more, but the Oldies but Goodies still move me. Thanks for posting this tune👍

i learned this one in mr. nixons music class 3rd grade 1987. written by pete seeger folk performer who.also.wrote where have the flowers gone etc, public school lol yknow i liked some of my time there, but all very confusing to a youngster. in 1948 ot was way to controversial to touch and all through the 50s, until finally it got mainstream fans in the hippie 60s, and became an anthem of the civil rights movement. weird how times shift come go..

I will never support communism. However, I will not stand for artists being dictated to regarding what they can write, compose, act in, paint, etc. If I don't like a film, I change the channel. It's like abstinence....it works every time it's tried. Everyone in this country has the right to think and talk and create freely without the restraint of the government.

In my own country Cuba , one of these screenwriters ( Lester Cole ) was portrayed Castro in 1959 like a wonderful man ?
