10 day backpacking to Italy | Minimalist travel | 20l packing list
This is everything I will carry with me on a 10-day trip to Italy.
I could easily remove some stuff, but I'm expecting cold and wet weather.

After adding winter stuff, some may find it hard to believe everything would fit in a backpack. This video proves there's enough volume to do so. Currently, I'm not in the "extreme minimalist" mood because the temperature is going nuts. But if I wanted to pack even lighter, I could get rid of my Carhartt jacket and the wool sweater. I would still do fine.

Responding to @mcrb1776's comment. Many things mentioned here are not essential for my normal life flow. Even the earplugs are not needed anymore since I bought them only for a really noisy trip.

Late fall, early winter 2023 | Extreme minimalism

Transitional seasons like Fall can be tricky. They extend form 20C to -5C in two days. Wind gets really cold and strong, while rain is always a possibility. Outdoor training, running and hikes become a challenge to schedule. Here is my setup to confront such weather.

With this setup I'm able to handle typical autumn temperatures which tend to stay between 10 C to 20 C. The key is to be dry and protected from the wind. The new backpack allows me to pack more warm clothes since it has a volume of 24l.

Minimalism in its core is a practice of lightness and freedom. It's hard to not see correlations between this kind of lifestyle and many religious orders. Various philosophies represent it like a virtuous behavior. Today, being a minimalist feels like swimming against the river flow. But once you feel it, you know it's the right path. Stay strong, pilgrim.

I'm a one bag backpacker. I was traveling abroad and lost everything I got with me. No money, no phone, no passport, shirtless. I survived and had fun doing it. Turns out that social skills, work experience, and a humble smile on your face are valuable survival skills. The more you know and can, the easier it gets.

Summer 2023 This is everything I took with me for a 3 months summer working season. All can fit into a Quechua 10l backpack
Love this! Less is more
I hope you had a good trip) I'm glad to see the new video. I’m also a minimalist, but I’m far from you)
It was great! Thanks 🙂 I like to think that the goal is not to have as little but to have enough. Unless that's your goal 😎
Serious question, how do you manage with only 2 pair of boxers? This is something I wish I could accomplish myself but I find quite difficult. Any insight or advice would help, thanks!
During summer, I wear only swimming shorts most of the time. I go for a swim at least 2x per day. When I wash them (just to get rid of the salt) they dry until the next morning. I don't want to sound bold, but for me, 2 pairs feel almost like overkill. My lifestyle allows me that. I understand that most people can't wear shorts all day and need to suit up for work. That's their lifestyle choice. Hope this helps 🙃

I found your videos so inspirational, that I decided to consider the amount of things that I actually need. I have been interested in minimalism for a long time but now I have this temptation to go for extreme minimalism. Can’t wait for a new video!
Nice to hear that. Think of it like camping. Try it for 2 weeks. If you like it, go for another 2 weeks. Good luck 🙂
My goal❤
🎉😊 I would like to see the female version of this!!!
There shouldn't be much difference. What else would you need?
@eljjm that 1 extra liter max :) You can do it 💪💪
Same without a condom 😂
I am currently travelling to snowy Switzerland for 3 weeks following your example. Unfortunately, I have to have a pyjama, but at the end of week 1, all is OK. Thanks for sharing your tips and suggestions.
Such a wonderful place. Have fun! :)
Thank you.

You not even cook? Just curious
It depends. If I stay somewhere for over 2 weeks, I ensure I have a kitchen with all the needed accessories. If not, I'm fine with eating out and tasting local food. Especially street food. Often I eat just bread and canned tuna or hummus.
where do you sleep? hostels only? good to carry a ultralight tarp and groundsheet just in case!
It depends on the type of trip. Hostels are cool, but often I rent a room. Like I said, it depends. I used to camp a lot when I was younger. I had a tarp, a hammock, a military sleeping bag, a bivvy, and a foam mat. I miss camping... but it's not as romantic as it sounds.
@@TurtlHeremit camping sucks, mostly because its lonely and no internet, but in Australia where I live accommodation of all sorts is extremely expensive :(. Id say vanlife is the best middleground and renting long term is the most affordable
@@UndoubtablySo van life is a romantic way to have too many problems. Unless you know how to repair it, and unless you don't mind talking with the police and rangers :)
Nice video. Always interesting to see videos of what people own
Glad you enjoyed :)
Hi (: Is that all you have? Or do you have other things stored away somewhere?
I sell or donate most of the stuff I don't use. At my parent's house, I have a locker where I leave some of my stuff like this brown jacket, a sleeping bag, or winter boots. Stuff that I'm sure I'm gonna need and use when the season is right, but I'm not willing to carry on my back all the time.
Thank you for your response! 😊 I'm doing this right now, a new round of donations and selling things I don't use.@@TurtlHeremit
@@francinecurivil2051 good choice :)
Glad to know another extreme minimalist! 😊
I really enjoy your videos! I wonder how your wardrobe will change in the summer. Will it? Do you live in the North?
Currently, I'm not in the North :) Till summer, many things can change. If some of the clothes get damaged, I'll replace them. If I find something that would work better, I'll probably change the setup. Maybe I'll get curious and buy something to test it out. For now, I'm chilling :) I'm glad you like the videos!
I use an iPhone with a card wallet case that fits my driver license, id, debit card and a credit card. Keys I have removed it from my life changing the locks to smart locks.
That's a more minimalistic solution than mine. My phone is too narrow to carry cards. Maybe when I switch to another phone, I'll buy a similar type of case you have. In my opinion, smart locks are great for everything besides being a lock... but maybe it's just too prudent :)
Hi, what is an init File? And what is a Linux? You go multiple times a year abroad?
Linux is an open-source operating system. The .init file is a set of files needed to boot the operating system. I used to travel a lot, like all the time. I have traveled less in the last few years, but still way more than most people.

Hi! I don't need any besides my ID card and driver's license. Before renting a room, I ensure those are included in the price. Thank you for the nice words :)
I understand, it makes sense :) Thank you for your answer
Am so fascinated by your videos and the stuff you have. Learning something new and thinking differently about things, even if up here in Norway I need a little more clothes. Have wondered why you have a lighter and what you use it for? Haven't found an answer to that in your videos. Looking forward to your next video.
I'm glad you like my videos :) There is no reason to own less than you need to stay comfy and warm. The same goes the other way around, no need to own more than you can use :) Have you watched the movie "Cast Away" with Tom Hanks? That's the answer to the lighter question. Besides that, more than once I needed it to light a candle, a BBQ, a campfire, burn the rope ends, etc. Way too light, small, and useful to not carry one around.
Google Translate: Hi, friend. It’s very cool that you made a video response. I was interested in watching and reading the comments under your videos before. Everyone talks so often about the importance of lip balm... I have never used it much, although our climate is quite harsh and the wind can be very strong. Looks like I should look into this. ME: I would like to know your secret :) If you don't have problems with your lips there is no reason to use one. Unfortunately, the wind destroys me.
Блокчейн сеголня очень популярная тема, но я до сих пор ничего о ней не знаю. Пожалуй стоит изучить этот вопрос подробнее.
Google Translate: Blockchain is a very popular topic these days, but I still don’t know anything about it. Perhaps it is worth studying this issue in more detail. ME: Definitely is important to understand it. Things in the world are changing rapidly. Money has become digital. In many places in Europe, they don't accept cash anymore. Giving someone the ability to see how you spend your money is not a good thing. Limiting what you can buy and how much you can spend is one step away from this point. With crypto, value is in your hands.
Google Translate: Hi, friend. This is the first video I watched on your channel. It inspired me to get acquainted with your other videos, and in the end I watched all of them, except for the video about making coffee. You have a very bold approach to minimalism and life. I am very inspired by minimalism as a concept and I would like to learn how to live the same way... Now I’m just starting to get rid of unnecessary things and don’t yet fully understand which of them I really need. I live in Russia and therefore, with our climate, it is unlikely that I could reduce the list of my things to such a small number. Recently in Moscow it was -24°, today it is already warmer. I decided to leave comments on some of your videos so that you know that someone in Russia is watching you. 😁 I don’t know English, so I write them in Russian, I hope the translator will let you understand me correctly. May the force be with you! ME: Thank you! For some reason, people like this video the most compared to the others I made so far. Which is a good thing... I guess. I'm not sure how to explain it, probably will need to do a video about it, but having a few items is only good if other life settings allow you to live in such a way. Minimalism is surely a cool philosophy, and practical as well. But it's not worth it if you get a feeling that you are missing out. There are many cons to this lifestyle. I didn't decide to be a "minimalist". I simply wanted to be light. I found out only recently that people made a trend out of it. I will definitely need to make a video about it. Stay warm! May the force be with you! :)
Привет, друг. Это очень крутая история. Когда я узнал, что ты смог жить все лето после того как тебя обокрали, меня это очень вдохновило. Я будто почувствовал уверенность которую ты испытал пережив это.
Google Translate: Hi, friend. This is a very cool story. When I found out that you were able to live all summer after you were robbed, it really inspired me. I felt like I felt the confidence that you felt through this. Me: I'm glad you liked it. Being desperate is one of the worst things to do in that situation. After, people suggested me a few different ways I could get out of this situation. But I'm glad I found my own way out of there. DIY experiences are the ones worth living.
Hey good motivational video , make more minkmalism video
I'm glad you liked it :)
I am honored to have gotten a video reply, I was not expecting that. Thank you for clarifying your views. Yes, I drag to much stuff with me. But that is a sacrifice I am willing to make for some extra functionality. Your minimalist approach is different, and you are willing to sacrifice on some functionality. In then end, there are no pro's without cons. We all are different, yet we all are the same.🤜🤛
I agree. Different approaches to life enjoyment.
I would like to add-on to this, based on my experience. I travel to Asia and Ex-soviet countries for 8 months. I packed all the stuff, which I thought I would need. But on the trip I forcefully restrict myself to use those things like most of the items mentioned in that comment. And to be true, I survived very easily without using those items and have never felt any greater need. So on that trip I realised that we always pack more than what we actually need. Travel taught me minimalism and now I adapted to it in every scenario. To be more specific, all my possessions fits in a 35 ltr bag. Included a Balzer, a boot, and a business laptop and so on. I travel for 6-8 months a year and work for the rest in any rented apartment/room I got anywhere in my country as my work is remote. Moreover I recently watched an American Tv Series "REACHER" in which the main guy is traveling only with a toothbrush, I will soon goona try that approach, or maybe with a 10-20 liter bag. Because anyway I have to work on my laptop for 2-3 hrs a day to compensate for my traveling 🎉. Much respect and love from India 🎉🇮🇳
You speak English incredibly well, and when you said 'sizzle' we usually say 'jingle' and I like your way better :) That toiletry bag looks so practical, I bet it feels so freeing to fit it all in one bag!
It is so freeing, that eventually you adopt a new standard of life. Thank you for the kind words :)
No powerbank? No flashligh? No multitool? No headphones? No waterbottle? No umbrella? No sunglasses? No hairbrush? No perfume? No lipbalm? No pen? No notebook?
1. No powerbank. 2. Just recently got rid of it. Have a flashlight on my phone. If I need one, I'll get a headlamp. 3. It would be nice to own a Leatherman. I'm considering adding one for a few years now. Which would you suggest? 4. No headphones. Playing in bands, I've spent every "free" minute of my life listening to a vast diversity of music genres. In the last 3 years, I started to appreciate silence. It makes me way more creative. 5. I might sound like a savage, but I mostly drink directly from the faucet when I'm not home. So far, most rooms I've rented had a classic water glass. When I travel, I buy 2l of water which I refill during the trip. It may sound weird, but I like to taste the water everywhere I go. In a "water connoisseur" kinda way. 6. No umbrella. Too windy here. Not worth the struggle. 7. At the current moment I don't have them. Had I a pair of Oakleys that disappeared. And this summer I had a pair of Hawkers that I sat on. 8. No... 9. Since my deodorant has a certain fragrance, I can't put another bouquet over it. 10. I just bought it because the wind destroyed me last week. 11. I can't remember when was the last time I needed to have a pen with me. 12. Basically the same reason as why I don't have a pen. I can't draw. Everything I need to write down, I do it on the phone.
