Thank you :-) I was struggling a lot to find a technique that would give me a two-coloured knitted pattern. So much, in fact, that I had to create my own. I used Blender to model one stitch, I multiplied it with the use of arrays, and I rendered a square black-and-white image with the base pattern. This became my alpha image that I used in Substance Painter. To get different patterns, I simply hid selected stitches in Blender, rendered this again as an alpha image, and then "stamped" it on the sweater in Substance Painter. Hope that it makes at least some sense (I'm playing with the idea of making my first tutorial, but I don't know if or when I'll get to it).
