Christmas tree
Просмотров 27 тыс.5 лет назад
Turning a Christmas tree on the lathe. I used 2 inch diameter poplar dowel cut to just under 6 inches on my band saw. This gave me 8 blanks per dowel. Poplar wood is considered a hardwood by species but is typically softer than pine. It can chip or tear out easily. But there isn't any pitch to deal with. I colored these with Sharpies. But the blue turned a more purple-ish color and all of the c...

Rocking Chair

Building a child's rocking chair from poplar. I am still learning the video making process. It is amazing how noisy my neighborhood gets every time I want to shoot a video. I also need to learn when not to talk. www.etsy.com/listing/472167241/plans-for-kids-rocking-chair?ref=shop_home_active_1

How to video on making a 3D wooden horse from my pattern. I did the last cut wrong… Just before the last cut you can see me clearing out the material at the back inside neck of the horse. I usually then back the blade out, turn the horse around, back the blade back into the cut, and then cut my way out. I try to always cut, in such away as to not get my blade trapped behind loose material. www....

Pega por la parte plana de los dos sobrantes y tendrás otro cerdo de madera.
Ellerinize sağlık. Çok güzel olmuş.

What kind of wood is that?
Doug Fir 2 x 4's
This is just wonderful. Thank you.

sir your band saw machine company name
I have a delta Platinum edition 14 inch bandsaw made about 1999, and a Jet JWBS-14CS 14 inch Bandsaw.
Hi Terry would you have a 3d wooden pattern for a rabbit and a whale. I have a request from my granddaughters for a piggy bank shape of the same. I downloaded the pig last week project for next week. retired in NL Canada
No I don't, sorry.
Сразу видно, когда Мастер чувствует и материал, и инструмент. Perfect!
Дуже гарно!
Loved your video! Do you just freehand draw the animals or is there a book with templates you'd recommend? Also, how does one determine if there should be a top view or front view template (along with the side view)?
I sell this pattern on Etsy. www.etsy.com/shop/TerrySpadesWoodWorks?show_panel=true
What is the blue thing holding your blade. Is that a blade guide?
That is a Carter stabilizer. It is an after market blade guide.
@Terry Spade thanks for the reply. I have a Wen 10 inch bandsaw do you think the carter stabilizer would fit on that bandsaw. It has the bearings for giuds. I'm guessing you would take the bearings off and put the carter stabilizer on. I've had a hard time keeping an 1/8 inch blade on it but only been messing with 1/8 blade for a week now. Thanks
@@electrified7309 They make about 28 versions of the Carter stabilizer. And they have demo videos that should help. www.carterproducts.com/band-saw-products/band-saw-stabilizer?product_list_limit=all
@Terry Spade thank you so much I appreciate your help.
Terry I do not criticize how a fellow wood woodworker produces. However I would remiss in telling you this dangerous thing you did on this video. When you were crosscutting the 4x4 on the chop saw you were cutting cross armed ! DANGER DANGER DANDER !!! You set the peice, took you left hand over to hold the Peice on the right side of the saw and used your right to work the saw and make the cut ! VERY Very dengerous and a habit which will eventually lead to bodily injury to your left fore-arm. Rule for the chopsaw. If when operating you ever find your hands crossed you are endangering yourself. simple correction is to hold the part with the right hand and operate the saw with the left. I have one small scar, got very lucky, but have witnessed other where the blade cuts into the soft backside of the forearm ! Not a pretty site. Your videos are great. Watch the front end of this and note how you shirt sleeve easily comes in contact with the blade guard. Imagine a large peice and the guard being higher. Caught shirt sleeve grabbed and pulled in !!! AHHH heurts to visualize it. Gary - Keep pushing the wood !

Great video…thanks! Question…do you feel the carter stabilizer makes it easier to make the tight curves?
Glad you enjoyed the video. I am a big fan of the carter stabilizer, it does make tight curves easier to handle.
I really appreciate you showing close up what you’re doing. I feel that by watching your videos, and some others it’s going to help me to use my own tools to create beautiful things.
That's how I learned, Gotta love youtube.
I just scanned the videos on your channel, and I had to subscribe! I can’t wait to try some of your beautiful designs!

is that 1/8 or 1/4 inch blade?
3/16 inch 10tpi, so it's right between 1/8 and 1/4 inch.
what machine is that
I use three machines in this video. A bosch 12'' sliding compound miter saw, a 14 inch bandsaw, and an 18 inch bandsaw.
👍👍👍

Nice job with the skew- How long have you been turning wood at the time of this video? I am a newbie and I can tell you it is quit humbling to be new at this hobby. I' ve already ran the skew into my chuck twice now and took a big hunk of metal out of the bevel. Stupid mistake.. You make it look easy. Whats the secret to chucking that poplar up? I got some of that 2" poplar dowel and put it in the chuck and it wobbled badly.
Bought my first lathe in 2012 a Delta 46-460 Variable-Speed Midi Lathe. and did a few turnings here and there. I started really getting serious about turning in 2015. In 2016 I decided to just concentrate on learning the skew. I watched RUclips videos on just skew techniques. Then go practice what I had just watched. I did this for most of 2016. Practice practice practice really does help. I use a Oneway Live Center tail stock with the large 3-1/4'' in dia. cone center reversed, so the 2" poplar dowel fits inside the cone. Make sure that the dowel is cut square. A well centered small hole for a standard tail stock works too. Make sure that the tail stock is against the dowel before you tighten the chuck.
@@terryspade441 Thanks for that info. That is priceless, I am going to use the large cone as you suggested, so basically you use the cone to seat the dowel into the chuck before tightening, got it. I just got my first lathe and it is a humbling learning experience. Thanks for the tips.
