      At the end of the play, he defiantly accepts his fate. True. But I'd argue there's always something cowardly about bullies and conniving, backstabbing snakes. Thanks for the comment.

    34:32 I like laertes because of his public morality ( revenging for his father’s and sister’s deaths and revealing the ultimate evil once he knew Hamlet was fighting for the same morals as his, revenging for his father), and his motive of revenge, not due to fear of the unknown, but due to what he thought is right.

    The reason we felt sympathy for them, is because they can somewhat reflect ourselves. Romeo reflects our romantic attitudes, Hamlet reflects our sense of justice 18:06

    27:08 If Gertrude did not marry Claudius, and let her son succeed the throne, not no more than a week, who will be assassinated next? And the serpent will secretly kill Hamlet even before Hamlet acknowledges if Hamlet becomes the next king, the serpent, well, is Claudius.

    I think your video provided more knowledge and facts, much better than other videos that are only used for low-level entertainment, even my online literature class at school can not provide that much crucial wisdom for my essay and poster on the themes of:” The complexity of action” and “ the impossibility of certainty”.

  • @BenfengWang
    @BenfengWang Месяц назад

    I don’t know whether my following ideas are right: Unlike the movie version of The Giver, which provides Jonas not only with the truth of the past civilizations, species, and cultures but also gives him guidance rather than order. The old Hamlet seems less concerned for Hamlet’s safety in the action, both emotionally and physically, the ghost seems only to care for his own perceived moral superiority rather than the individual scholarly renaissance artistic personality of Hamlet, he orders his child too much, view him more like his tool rather than his son, similar to the bright lord the LOTR Shadow of War, who only views the ring wearers as his vessel, not as his real comrades, and similar but not exactly like friar who is competent in herbal potion making, both literally and figuratively of their both protective and destructive nature. who helped the two star-crossed lovers partly due to respect for Romeo but more about his hope for peace in Verona. The old Hamlet uses his son as a means to an end, similar to but more ethically acceptable than Polonius’s act of using his daughter as a means to his political game and showing less consideration for their children’s well-being. Old Hamlet is the old king who has been murdered by his brother, and he is a reputable king, for the fact that Claudius can not overthrow him in public for fear of the rage of people, as well as the fact that he had won the combat against the Norway king, which can also explain why princess hamlet’s swordplay is much superior than Laertes’s. However, the reason the old king was being sent back as a wraith, is being told by his confession: it is a punishment for him, he has a crime that hasn’t been repented before his unnatural death. Old Denmark king’s morality and capacity are like 庄宗 in the Chinese historic writing <五代史伶官传序>, similar to Macbeth, who has a trajectory lifeline. They all have honorable natures, like their martial art caring for their military codes, and victorious diligence before their success. But their pride is all somewhat unbearable, Old Hamlet has a sexist attitude toward his wife, viewing her more like a possession who has been lost from him, although not as notorious as Tom who cheats on Daisy; 庄宗 who only indulges in plays and music without caring for both the purpose behind the art as well as peoples’ livelihood; Macbeth who kills his king due to his greed. But all in all, he ordered his son to complete his revenge, which is a double-edged sword: The same reason why vengeance for Prospera, madame Defarge, even becomes a hybrid of evil and justice, and the shady side is more alluring after their fulfilled success, so all in all, Old hamlet did not consider the problem:” What should Hamlet do after he kills Claudius?” Turning Denmark into anarchy? Causing the Verona street conflict to exacerbate into a civil war level due to misunderstanding? This is the reason I think Old Hamlet’s ordered actions are uncertain, not to mention not all ghosts are trustworthy in the first place.

      I once had a literature teacher who taught me about The Hobbit, and both your outlook and speech are similar, and with his quotes I liked:” Also, this is interesting you mention about the dwarves greed. Actually, while they are greedy, they are never corrupted because they are too stubborn and honorable. In contrast, humans are very easily corrupted.”

    • @BenfengWang
      @BenfengWang Месяц назад

      Other quotes of his :”That's good. Your level is well above everyone else so I expect the average to be maybe 20-30 minutes. But 5 minutes is still impressive. I realised I never read your story. I just did and noticed you changed the ending of the book and talked about the implications of those changes. Also, this is interesting you mention about the dwarves greed. Actually, while they are greedy, they are never corrupted because they are too stubborn and honourable.”

    All due respect but even before JKR went insane she wasn't close to Tolkien for most important author of the last 100 years. Not even in the fantasy genre does she have that distinction.

      Fair enough. Tough call, of course. I do believe HP resonates more with young people, especially in global terms. I wonder how Rowling and Tolkien would stack up in terms of economic impact. Thanks for commenting.

    Shakespeare's writing of Claudius’s praying, in my opinion, is to show the evil and greed of Claudius, his sin is too much that his prayer can not send him to heaven

      I agree. That's part of it. Much of what he says would resonate with his Elizabethan audiences.
