He's playing a different character. The guy who plays Dr. Connors is in the trailer as well. I think he's playing someone's too. Did you notice that he caught the part of Venom they left at the bar from Spider-Man No Way Home?

Excellent point! The public's expectations were so LOW at that point when people thought about comic book movies. We had some really bad BATMAN films and some really bad SUPERMAN films.
