The production of them was also quite dangerous and toxic for the workers apparently.
Damn superlative presentation Damn good job if this were a book you could not stop reading
I am at the site now. Thanks alot for this. Perhaps it would be a good idea to create a QR code and place it in pamphlets and the Alexandria visitor periodicals moving forward, linking the video. Just an idea.
As a native Washingtonian and urban planner this is a good piece of Black history research on Black Washington.
your american bias is showing_who planned d-day-who was the land commander for two months????
Yeah and he tried blaming the British for their codes being broken in North Africa . It was the American attachés incompetence that caused the intelligence leaks. He was removed from North Africa soon after
This was my grandfathers brother.
Jackie, I see you. Now to distinguish your voice! Lovely inspiration.
Slide 19 presentation is so confusing; why are there bullets that say something different than the presentors. So confusing.

Awesome lecture!
ran into this lecture and Q&A last night on television--C-span--without these pictures---FASCINATING
BRILLIANT LOOK at the guides that helped us navigate our gay world in the days before the internet. I can't wait until my opportunity to interview Dr. Gonzaba for my #GayBarchives show. #ilovegaybars
Is this report available in hard copy?
this is a fake holiday the slaves were freed by the republican party before this date while the democrat party wanted to keep slavery going and then they started the kkk after. real history learn it or be doomed to repeat it.
It's June 16th 2022 and im in the mood for some Juneteenth celebration! Living abroad, such theatrical celebrations are rare, but thanks to the Historic Alexandria Museum and of course the WASHINGTON REVELS JUBILEE, my mood is definitely on and I am so enjoying this video. Thanks to Virginia and to the Jubilee singers that I can enjoy my history abroad! As we say in the local language Asante Sana - thank you very much. Queen Mother Dunenyo 1st of Ghana a/k/a Dr. Dashanaba King
Fascinating
Great detail. My interest is my ancestor fought at Brandywine. My best research is that he was part of Armstrong's soldiers and was on the left flank. He may have been wounded but needs to be confirmed. Thank goodness he was not killed....hence I'm able to write this note.
Wade in the water is my favorite! Alvin Ailey made sure that song would never be forgotten. Great program
G_d Save the Queen!
A very informative step-by-step description of Sullivan's troops and sentry outpost communication; a great addition to an already great book. I live near the Squire Cheyney farm and visit the area covered in this video often. Thank you both for a great presentation!
Will you be posting any other videos from the 3 June D-Day virtual presentation?
Yes, hopefully by June 18 we will have the full presentation posted that premiered Mr. Fischman's interview.
@@HistoricAlexandriaVA Thanks for the update.
Both D-Day lecture videos have now been posted.
@@HistoricAlexandriaVA Thanks! :-)
That's My Dad.....He's 96 and still living in Alexandria......and I Live in Texas. Quite ironic that I would move to Texas, raise a family. The Battleship Texas is now a museum at San Jacinto Battleground. Texas children saved pennies to help fund the ships repairs. Thank you kind "Mr. Historian" for making this
I'll make sure my coworker, Mr. Historian (Jim), sees your comment.
Darllene: So glad that your dad is still with us! My dad was also a WWII vet. who participated in the Normandy Invasion with the U.S. Army Artillery. He died 4 years ago, but he would have been 97 this year. I wonder if he ever met your dad! (His name was Bernard Brand.) Moreover, he was also awarded the French Legion of Honor distinction by the Govt. of France for his efforts to help liberate France from the Nazis.
@@michaelbrand8279 Hi Michael....When and where did your dad receive the Honor medal? My dad's was a little later than others. I think it was 2019 at the French EMbassy in D.C. Where did your dad reside? How old are you Michael? Our country must get back to the IDEALS of our greatest generation !
@@darleneduck I think that my dad received his medal in 2014 or 2015. He was living in southern Indiana then; so, he was invited to the French Consulate in Chicago to receive his award. However, he couldn't travel easily for long distances then because of limited mobility due to old age, past injuries, & several joint replacements. Consequently, he received his medal, certificate, & official letter from the French Gov't. via mail. I'm 61 now. "Our country must get back to the IDEALS of our greatest generation !" Wow -- it's like you were reading my mind!!!
@@darleneduck Here's a photo of my dad (from 2014) wearing his French Legion of Honor Medal. Happy Fathers' Day to your dad today! :-) facebook.com/photo?fbid=10214645988133181&set=a.10211834066796905
The world will hopefully take a big lesson from this.
Such a great book!

Bravo! Your sounds, stories, and spirits enrich us and fill us with heartfelt joy.
Very interesting .did not know Dr. Johnson could not work at the Alex hospital when he raised funds for the building of it. Completed in 1916.
I'm so happy I found this tonight. I saw you all live at the New Spire Arts in Frederick, MD in 2019 and so enjoyed the singing, dancing and stories - it was incredible and I hope to see you live again soon.
I really enjoyed Char MsCargo Bah’s presentation. Can’t wait to see what else she . uncovers.
