So the "why" is dust? Mine is perfectly clean and sounds like a hair dryer once it warms up a bit! Using HWMonitor it doesn't even get that hot when the fan kicks on. I think it's a firmware issue, the fan only seems to have a couple of speeds instead of many levels.

This definitely works, mine wasn't as bad as the video but this trick has definitely reduced how crazy the fan used to go when the CPU was still under 10%! Yes fan still ramps up but no where near what it was before. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing poor job you've done on that video. That's EXACTLY what NOT to do with processor fan! As you know, the processor fan needs to be re-tuck re-applying thermal compound on the processor surface to make contact with processor fan TIGHTER. The only way to reduce processor fan noise, you will need to upgrade to better fan.

how loud is the fan of this machine when idling and if there is no dust? Can you hear the fan at all when idling?

This seems happen with a high usage of CPU: for example when I try to convert a video format using VLC media player, the fan starts making noise and then windows crushes. What does this mean?
