East Sea Sword US
Добавлен 25 апр 2015
This channel will offer information and explanations of the Korean martial art known in English as "East Sea Sword Sport." Recently organized, East Sea Sword students train in sword forms and drills in preparation for a sport-style competition built around the concept of historical wars. It is a martial sport with a unique focus on fighting multiple enemies, each carrying a sword. Using foam and specialized rules for safety, competitors must learn to defend, attack, and analyze a multifaceted situation quickly and effectively. These videos of training forms are made available to help those who are interested in learning, but lack a local teacher/club. Please follow all safety instructions and precautions, stretch properly, and only practice in safe, adequately wide spaces. Neither International nor American East Sea Sword Sport Federations are responsible for injury from failure to observe proper practice and/or caution.
Cutting Drill--East Sea Sword Sport
This is the Cutting Drill for East Sea Sword Sport. It is meant to quickly review the basic angles of attack, but also to be a progressive drill for practicing finer and finer control over the sword. Though I give the example with a foam sword, you can practice this drill with wooden swords for added muscle training. Please be careful when practicing. Stretch beforehand and we recommend practicing outside if at all possible. If you must practice inside, use a high-ceilinged, empty room. Safe practice, and EAST SEA!!!

Instruction is given with a foam sword, as is typical for the martial sport. Some specific points will differ from proper blocking with a bladed sword, most notably the requirement with a bladed sword that you block with the side of the blade, and not the cutting edge, l...

The first drill for two-person practice for East Sea Sword Sport. The primary focus is on proper, full speed guards against head attacks. Beginner practice should be done within strike distance, and more advanced players should stand at "Lunge Distance," where they will need to take a step in to attack and a step back to guard.

Gracias Master
I always wanted to learn swordsmanship but in my area there is none.
The online classes haven't had any students for a while, but feel free to e-mail me at east-sea-sword@hotmail.com and we can discuss possibilities.
Your videos are awesome! thanks
Thank you for this. Finding someone who explains the movements is very difficult.
Glad to be helpful in any way.
Still a long time......
I really appreciate these videos! They've been helping me solidify the forms in my memory.
Glad they are helpful. Safe practice.
Thank you. c:
In my particular school of TaeKwonDo The grandmaster is a grandmaster of this discipline as well So these forms are very very familiar to me I hope I can get the opportunity to learn more in this field as well
Thank you for this excellent instruction.
Glad it is helpful to you.
Any progress on this
Yep, we've been doing Zoom classes since October of last year. Because it involves people's private information and schedules, I don't talk about it here. The contact e-mail is east-sea-sword@hotmail.com if you want to know more.
Was this necessary? I don't get it.
Any chance you can post one steps?
I don't quite understand. What do you mean by "one steps"? Striking while stepping?
Very useful video
Thank you. I am glad it was useful to you. Safe practice.
Great video, it helped me a lot, thanks!
Thankyou so much. This is very helpful! 😊🙏

I have never gripped the handle of my LARP axe this hard before in my life. But for the first time, I have the vaguest idea of how to wield this thing. I'm *so* happy!
Don't death-grip. I can't speak too much to axes, but for the sword, and training right-handed (like they would force you to traditionally), the right hand should grip firmly, but not straining. The left hand should be down by the pommel and ready to shift its grip, loose to pivot, tighter for control, but almost never as tight as the right hand. And, if you do switch hand positions for something, switch the logic as well. The hand closer to the blade is your solid pivot point, the hand close to the pommel is your flexible controller. Safe practice.
*total nerd mode* Wow, I've seen this in anime and I never figured out how they were doing this until now. My life is complete... Thanks for making it so easy for us to follow along at home. (I'm having fun putting my LARP axe to good use right now))
Always happy to provide information and guidance. Do be careful, since an axe's balance will be further forward than a sword, so the minor movements of the WILL be different. If it is hurting after you try it, rest and re-examine. Safe practice.
1:34 for skipping intro
you just skipped to the end and you dont even own a sword. Lmao
Thanks master
Any time.
Great job keep dropping content
Thank you. I am trying, but I don't have a partner to help me during the quarantine. Hopefully once things get closer to normal.
Can you finish doing the hai dong forms tutorials up to form 10 at the least lol i need the refresher crash course ik the cartwheel in 9 is a pain in the butt but itd help me out
Sorry for being so late. I cannot add any more Haidong Gumdo forms, as I should not be teaching it above Black Belt level. However, I recomment MrTermright (ruclips.net/user/MrTermright). He is a master in Korea and has excellent (if a little fast) videos for practice.
Thats right I forgot they changed the belt curriculum for rank coralating to form since ive trained
after months of evading this form, at last i tackle it, and im getting the grasp of it /o/ cheers
Thank you for posting this. This is exactly what i needed. Keep em coming.
Thank you. I'm trying! It's hard to find partners to help film the further content during the quarantine.
Thank you so much for going slow and being so clear in articulating the blocks, swings, and steps. Makes it much easier to learn.
Glad it is helpful.
Sir do you teach how I can block and counter attack
Oh, my goodness...I never put up a Blocking Drill video... I will do that as soon as I can. It probably won't be as polished as these old ones, but I will put up the skills. Thank you for asking about this.
Holly molly the difficulty went up pretty high with this one
Indeed, especially in the footwork. I would take it slowly, and perhaps try it without the sword a couple of times, simply because they are meant to be tight turns, effective footwork for having to fight when flanked. I hope the video is clear enough to be helpful. Safe practice.
Yesss it is clear enough, this channel is my main source for studying these forms because of the guided explanations
@@eastseaswordus9063 would love to see your Yedo forms!
@@bhedrick101 Unfortunately, I am too far behind, my Yedo at the moment would be terrible, as I have spent most of my time on coaching the sport. I believe there are some good resources here on youTube, though. Sorry to disappoint. Safe practice.
Ssangsu Gumdo sword forms are really great . The Sensa who teaches and preforms the videos is a most excellent teacher .How dose one support East Sea sword ? Is it possible to become a member , student on line ? Is there a uniform patch available ? I would appreciate help with my inquiries .
Mr. Hodges, thank you for your compliments and your interest. I am teaching a limited form of the sword class online via Zoom. If you are interested, please feel free to contact me through the official e-mail for our group: east-sea-sword@hotmail.com I will be happy to answer any questions for you there and maybe we can talk about a class schedule. So you know, I removed your other comment so no one could cause trouble with your phone number. E-mail will be much safer. Thank you again.
OK, now...I'm no expert but I did study the unique characteristics of kumdo compared to kendo, and one of the things I learned was that Korean swordsmen have the sharp edge of the blade DOWNWARD before drawing, as opposed to the blade facing UP, as Japanese swordsmen do. Explanation for the discrepancy?
I can only speak to how I was trained. My Haidong Gumdo master taught me to hold the sword in the blade up position, with the explanation that, when dealing with a single-blade sword and needing to sheathe, it was most sensible, because you could see the blade and gravity would push the blunt edge towards your hand as you did so. If held blade down, gravity would be tempting fate, pushing back down towards your fingers as you tried to sheathe the sword. There are some forms that have you turn sheathe and sword in your belt before drawing, to change the angle of attack, but I was taught blade-up as the default. I hope this answers your question.
@@eastseaswordus9063 OK, thanks for the information.
Hi there. Please, any chance for some more videos. Very well done, and much enjoyed.
As I have finally found a new location, I did intend to begin filming new videos. Unfortunately, the Coronavirus response will slow that effort, but I will keep trying. Thank you very much. Take care.
@@eastseaswordus9063 you too. Prayers.

You're cool
Holy shit this is helpful to me I been doing the Frist form all wrong for years now
I have been doing this all wrong for a while now, There is no haidong Gumdo Dojangs Around where I live. The ones I want to go to are all North West where I live about 8 hours away.
I think tae kwon do dojos should really have a korean sword class
Very, very good.
Thank you kindly.
I really appreciate your videos!. I'm green belt and there is little-to-none Haidong Gumdo rich information in the internet, just plain text-walls about stance names, not useful. But your videos (specially the Form ones) are really rich, since I can both--see what you do--and hear a detailed explanation. Cheers from Argentina!.
I am glad I can be useful. Given the current Corona situation, I am looking into possibilities of teaching over the internet, as my in-person classes needed to be cancelled. Perhaps your local dojang can do the same. And if not, you are welcome to join my classes if/when I am able to set them up.
thanks so much for this form instruction I have a test comming up and I only knew before the golf swing part !!! awesome vid
I hope everything went well. Glad to be of any help.
I'm a bit desperate at the moment. Although I have a Mokgum, unfortunately, I find nowhere on the internet a job for a Dobok. The last thing I found true is something where I can buy the top but neither in my size nor in black. Where can I get these clothes? Near me, there is no dojo. The next is eight hours drive away so I teach myself this martial art. It would be great to have the appropriate clothing.
I can see the issue, no place is actually carrying the real uniform except U.S. Haidong Gumdo, and they only sell to registered Masters. I will send you a youTube friend link, and, if you wish, we can discuss so I can put you in contact with my supplier. ruclips.net/user/add_contact?c=BYJjV_IaTvCwjN--7H_ro3gfm76QKw
