Have a great time at Christmas ❤
Thanks!!!! Great information!!!
Hugs. How are you doing?
OMG we deliberately avoided McDonalds et al when we were there. Local food is way better by far!!!!
I agree!!!
re: read the former posts sounds like something an engineer would do LOL
lol.
wow! I learned something by listing to this
I am a retired senior, independent living, 1 bedroom in ALGARVE nice apartment, near Beach
Healthcare, shopping, groceries
Would like a nice facility, not only medical. I have one issue but live independently
Do I need my car shipped
This may too country. Not a club participator
What is cost. Algarve, Porto
If someone wanted to purchase a room or a cottage what are the costs? I see that there are 32 rooms at 1, 200/week and a cottage at 1,400/week. Is that for people visiting or residents. So one would be buying a room for 57,600/year. Is that the first year or every year. And a cottage at 67,200 for the first year or every year. What does it cost to own one?
Hello maria, these questions are best asked strictly to Richard Bassett, as he is the developer and project manager. You can send me an email at info@americaninportugal.com and I can connect the two of you so you can ask more questions.
I will reach out to you, Victoria on email
Hello and thank you for reaching out, I look forward to speaking to you through email
Hello and welcome, thank you for joining in to see the live premiere of this special video about senior care for expats in Portugal.
The rent in Portugal is cheap?
It’s better to buy here as the market is tight for rentals.
Never heard of “tulipa” but were I lived we had “girafa” 1 liter, caneca and imperial or fino.
Oh yeah the whole bottle baby! Girafa
Stay in the U.S. You will get tired of Portugal within a year.
Where did you move from? I moved in 2017 and am not tired of portugal but I also love history and travel. A couple of hours to paris or morrroco or GB or ireland or Germany or the med, Canary Islands, Cape Verde and so much more.
I can interpret your point of view as Portuguese in stating that "the 25th of April was the independence of Salazar's regime" (in quotation marks, of course) but it could mislead anyone who is not familiar with the carnation revolution. Salazar died in 1970, and the regime was different, ruled by Marcello Caetano. 25 the April was a military coup provoked by young officers of the armed forces (captains) who decided to put an end to a war fought by the decision of the Portuguese dictatorial government against African guerrilla movements fighting for their independence. These movements were supported both in military material and in money, by the world's largest powers: the USSR, China, the United States (yes, true) as well as other countries such as Cuba, Czechoslavakia and Hungary (then communist bloc countries). With this overwhelming support from super powers, little Portugal, with limited resources, with extremely high defense budget costs due to the war, it was a matter of years before Portugal lost on all 3 war fronts. The coup of April 25th also aimed to restore a democracy that would bring Portugal closer to the democracies of Western Europe, which were already Portugal's main economic partners in 1974 and where the bulk of Portuguese emigrants who preferred Europe to their own African colonies emigrated. The first 2 years after 74 were unstable, but within 4 years the country stabilized and in 1986, with its entry into the European Union, Portugal took the leap that made it a first world country that it still is today. 50 years later, the country is immensely better, and so is the overwhelming majority of the population. It is true that the independence of the African colonies caused the flight of hundreds of thousands of Portuguese who, in many cases, lost everything they had built. But they returned to Portugal and rebuilt their lives, with greater or lesser difficulty. It is clear that there will always be people who oppose this date that established democracy and freedom in Portugal, because they lived better in a state that happened to be a dictatorship where there was no freedom. I'm not demonizing them, pay attention. Just stating a fact. For example, even today in Russia there are those who regret the fall of communism and the disintegration of the Soviet Union because these people lived much better at that time. In the end, it's the same logic.
I really like your explanation, thank you so much for taking the time to write it out and so well said.
Up north, things are a bit different. We still have the mighty caneca, which is typically 50cl (about 17 US fluid ounces). There's a principe, which isn't common, and usually delivers about 33cl (12 US fluid ounces). Instead of the imperial, we have the fino, which is around 20-22cl (or about 7 US fluid ounces for those too lazy to do the math). Also, it is caneca, not "caneça", which simply means "mug".
This is awesome, thanks for sharing. I like the “mighty caneca”.
Good night from Papua New Guinea. I enjoyed watching your contents.
Ola! Wow, you’re my first person who has reached out from Paula New Guinea 🇬🇳 yipmabaruya!!! Stay in touch. Ibfo@americaninportugal.com.
I’ll have to watch the replay. My little sis called me while I was watching. Im connected to a few groups that give women, African-American women in particular, inspiration to travel outside of the US (I already do that. I’m 1 of the cheerleaders), and find sources of income that aren’t connected to staying in the US. I didn’t think I’d have to have another source of income. It was going to be, “nice to have, extra money”. I’ve been watching and listening, because if something happened, I’d want to be able to have a plan B ready, if not actively happening. This is very difficult for a very Gen X person. 😜 So, I know I have to understand the tax implications for working in another country, whether it’s self employment, or as an employee. I don’t think I’d start my own business, but the video was interesting in showing the difference between self employment and setting up a business. Thanks for the information!
You are so fabulous at planning Nub! We have African American (ok now Portuguese he he) friends in our network and they are happy here. Let’s book a chat for fun. Superfan perk as the tops!!!
@@AmericanInPortugal Thank you! You’re a super cool person!
Aw hugs. I always smile when I see your messages or on the feed at Good Morning Portugal. Hugs.
Portugal is one of the places I'm considering moving to, and my 'research' shows that the social security rate on freelance service providers like IT consultants, accountants, graphic designers, etc is 21.4% on 70% of your quarterly revenue. Once you're done paying that, you'll have to pay either progressive income tax rates, or corporate income tax (21%) on the remaining amount - depends on if you're doing business as an individual or as a corporate entity.
Great research and also if you’re retired and it’s just part time income you can try to stay in the lower brackets as you don’t need to earn as much here.
One of the many reasons I still live in the USA. No language barrier.
He he he he. I love Portugal and Europe but some people are happy at home and that’s ok too :)
@surfside-hj2ue - aren't you special.
lol. Hugs from portugal.
Love this, as an expat Portugal member , I’ve found your videos 🥰, I have just received my residency, I will be coming to VRSA soon , I believe it could be the place for me, it certainly does check a lot of boxes. I believe you are a realtor, do you have an office there?
Ola I’m not a realtor anymore (but kept my CA license) but I refer to honest agents here. Unfortunately there are no licensing requirements so many of them are scammers and engage in fraudulent activities. Email me at info@Americaninportugal.com and don’t hit any websites for “more information” as they scam there also (even with the reputable franchises). It’s the Wild West.

Yay! Thank you! I’m editing and filming like crazy. I have lots of past videos I’ve taken but I want new stuff also…cool to see the changes since I moved here in 2017.
Is it as good as Newport Beach or Santa Barbara?
We are from Huntington Beach, and I would say the beaches are as good and if not better than most in California. We have been living in Lisbon for over two years and wanted to be back in the Huntington Beach vibe, so we are moving to Vila Real de Santo Antonio this year.
Where I live in the east algarve I would say better as they are not crowded in many locations and easily accessed to the hidden beaches through little pine forests. What we don’t have in CA is lots of beach bars and restaurants on the beach. I’ve lived in Newport Beach and El Segundo and also SLO so I think that is what is super special here. You can sit on a beach chair under a palapa and have drinks brought to you. Go to the beach bar or order from your phone. Have you seen my beach videos?

Did you know portugal has some of the biggest waves in the world? Google Nazare, there is even a documentary on the surfers there. I was at the Waterman’s Ball when I was with the Orange County Newschannel and handed Kelly Slater the award for surfing the largest wave at the Cortez Reef. So Google and enjoy. The west side of the country by Sagres and Aljezur has some great waves and along the Atlantic coast.
Hi Veronica! Can you give me advice on buses across the algarve? Im in vila moura for a month without a car and i want to explore the algarve towns from east to west. How do I get to vila real San Antonio ? Is there a cEntral bus station somewhere near me? G Maps doesnt show one. Thank you!
Ola. A bus isn’t something that I take (I get carsick). I would rent a car in the algarve for sure. So many beautiful places to visit. Or take an Uber/bolt to the train station. Have you seen my video on getting around Portugal?
Explore Portugal with tips, tricks, and fun clips: airports, trains, rental cars, best apps & more. ruclips.net/video/GJNMobtp_LY/видео.html
Download the MYCP app for train times and to buy tickets online or buy at the station (no train ticket office at the station then you can buy on the train….but if it has an office and is staffed you should buy there so you don’t get into trouble.
Can hardly wait to see your deeper dive videos. Of the different areas. Hope to catch up with you when my partner and I are in the Algarve in August!
Thank you. I’m working on the Beach towns from Tavira, Castro Marim and VRSA next as most people prefer the beaches to the countryside (that will be last) so going “costal” first.
Send me an email to info@americaninportugal when you’re in town.
Hi Veronica, just discovred you from watching your video with Nick from Algarve Addicts. Is there a way to get in touch with you privately? We will be in PT in Sept. and I wanted to ask you a couple things if you're open to it. Thanks, Cindi

@@AmericanInPortugalThanks Veronica! Talk soon. 😊

Have a happy day.
We went summer 2023 lovely place. Much quieter than the Algarve
It's so pretty there and the off season is fabulous. There are lots of hidden and quiet places in the Algarve. Most of the tourists fly in and head west to party, golf and of course surf those waves on the Far West Coast (the super far West Coast is hidden and also amazing...Aljezur). The biggest tourist spots to avoid if you want a calmer experience are Albufiera, Lagos and the golf mecca of the golden triangle.
We will be in the country from august 13th thru the 28th looking forward to meeting up with Veronica while we are there.
Hello @hardhatgr, August is a very busy time for tourism and the hottest month of the year, I don't know if you've booked tickets yet but September/October and May/June are ideal months to visit. In Europe most people are off for the entire month of June (can you believe it...from the USA you need to be a teacher to get the summer off...and they still have many more weeks of vacation...a definite perk of working in Europe). But if you are around send me an email and I will see if we can meet up. info@americaninportugal.com
(1) The airport would be in Newark, NJ. There is a large Portuguese population in the state, whose family lived there at one point or another. (2) wish you listed those 2 towns…
I'd like to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.
Europe travel is always so amazing. Enjoy.
