this is exactly what i need to sooth my autistic brain.
Pure genius, pure class, that is the reverse jam hitch.
Nice insect
Hi Martin, nicely demonstrated. Do you ever moisten your fingers when preparing hair with a lot of underfur for stacking? I keep an old, small hook box with water in it to lightly wet my fingers to make them a little tackier for pulling out the the underfur. I hope you are doing well. You know me as Bob A-- I exchanged emails with you about trying to recruit some video fly tyers for Globalflyfisher. And about fishing while seated.
Why not making a film on tying leaders? Just an idea. 🙂
Best explanation. Deserves a higher ranking!
I have seen (some) people cut the "big loop" ( seen on the right side as you made the loop) by the hole in the loop. That will stop it from cutting the wire and "save time".
Really good tip. Well explained.
Thanks
Which way is the penis facing now? 😂
Thank you for explaining you technique on how to stand up a EP para-post. I've been tying for 55+ yrs. and no-one has demonstrated this method so well .Excellent 😅👍I don't have 30 D nano silk but I do have it in 24 D .I'll try it and see if I have to make a trip to my supplier's stop. Thanx again .tight lines .
@Mike Clarke: The video is not on a pattern, but on a technique. There are no materials lists on these tips.
Good video but the material list should be listed
Great Video, thanks for the tip on using Water Silk. Have you tried to use Hi-Float Fibers in place of Water Silk?
you just helped me study for my comparative anatomy class thank you!
This is exact , and excellent method for doubling hackle . Even I can do this , so thank you for this very helpful tutorial ! Especially thank you for the explanation about usable part of rachis/plumage . This hadn't been apparent to me before , so you've saved me a lot feathers , and the time figuring this out on my own .
I never would have thought I would be watching a fly fishing video to learn about feathers. I have a house duck and I'm having to study their anatomy. This is really neat to see!
Yeah you will have to find the penis anatomy 😂
I think I need some of that sorting stuff. As I age, I’m having much more trouble controlling non-natural dubbing material. Thanks for the tips.
Take a piece of Tin foil and cut it up to sheds with the scissors , they will sharpen nicely !!
Hi Martin, We don't have musk ox in my part of the world but we've got a few American buffalo. We pick it up in Yellowstone Park after they shed their winter under fur. It is great dubbing as well.
Thanks for the ideas. Very helpful. That was a nice touch using dubbing made from the cast-off fur of a native Greenland musk ox, collected in the wild! 😉 😄
Mailman just delivered mine. Martin and Wayne, I can't tell you how much I've gotten out of, and enjoyed, this series of videos. These details of tying are so often over looked and are to me anyway invaluable. Thanks very much.
We all know Enrico’z thief 😉
An effective demonstration.
very nice
Can you please say what kind of dubbing did you say you use? I couldnt understand. Thanks 🙏🙏
Helpful! I have a new Rite half hitch that cuts thread like a little razor right out of the box. Will give this a shot
Thanks for that good tip!
He is so far ahead than most people i know. Way he teaches is simple but very effective. thanks for uploading these videos.
Funny, I've been making flies since the '70's and have always noticed how bucktail resists stacking, even when the fibres are reasonably straight. It's annoying because you tend to waste a lot of short hairs which just won't come down, and contribute bulk at the tying point. On the other hand you don't often want it stacking too well. Thought there was something sticky about the surface of the hairs. Now I know.
WOW....Finally !!! After ruining a couple pair of relatively expensive scissors trying what other videos told/showed me to do I tried this method and it worked beautifully. I had a pair that would barely cut and now they're like brand new. Thank you
Where can I get a closed in stacker?
Gary, try contacting Joe Libeu <fishlgf@ix.netcom.com> who makes the red/black model that Wayne shows in the end here.
@@MartinJoergensen Did you ever get ahold of a “closed-end” stacker from the link supplied in the video, and how much $ was it?
@@williamgoss1248 I got one by contacting Joe Libeu. He was kind enough to offer it to me for free, so I don't know the price. Drop him a mail and ask.
Excellent explanation. Thanks for posting.
Great job. I never thought of that and would just keep bending the wing back. What would you do with Poly Propylene Yarn to make it float better?
Simply treat it with a floatant. Wayne mentions that. Do it while tying or streamside.
EP Fibers I understand are pretreated with Water Shed. Water Silk is untreated, but can be treated with Water Shed (or another silicone water repellent) prior to or after tying . Or wait and apply your favorite floatant when fishing. Both appear to be identical Nylon products.
My mistake - I should have written EP Trigger Point Fibers.
just wax your thread?
The purpose is to add some friction to my fingers in order to achieve a more efficient dub. Wax alone on the thread does not help in that regard and too much wax will mat the fibers more than I usually prefer.
Excellent tip!
Very cool tip. I like having the option of the reverse jam. Thanks Martin.
Helpful. About to tie my first fly with calf tail. Not a lot of resources on it.
Nice video but of course for most of it your finger covers the tiny tip of the scissors you want us to see. Are you sharpening the outside of the blade or the cutting edge?
It's the outside tips that are sharpened to a point, not the cutting edge. And the fingertip is there to "feel" the angle.
