Summer 2013 - Senior design project entered into the 2013 ASME Student Mechanism and Robot Design Competition. Entry included a presentation and poster event at IDETC 2013 in Portland, OR. The goal of the senior design project was to create a relatively cheap robust gripper for the humanoid robot SAFFiR built by RoMeLa at Virginia Tech. sites.google.com/site/asmesmrdc/home

    Hey Mike, I am just starting a project which is pretty similar to what you've done here. I was just curious to know why you decided to make the length of your "leg" on the balancing robot so long?

    Beautiful, expecially how it seems to adjust its balance to spin down the reaction wheels so they don't get saturated. Even with the center of mass shifting and oscillating.

    This is really impressive. The cinder block slips down a litte, but it looks like the grip gets tighter as it's slipping?

    The extra weight's freedom of movement gives it a little trouble... the equations could probably be tuned for this.

    If you had 2 points on the table then you could have just one wheel because it can only fall in the one plane. That would be interesting as well. This is definitely cool though.
