Ferguson Rifle

Stunning replica of the Ferguson Rifle. A superbly versatile gun, with an incredibly forward thinking concept behind it. Ferguson's screw breach. A genius concept that allowed the firer to re-load the rifle while prone, and took either a .68 or a .61 caliber ball. A marvel of engineering, only 100 were ever made and after Ferguson's passing, the design was scrapped, partly due to the government...
Rare Pattern 76 black powder rifle.

Shooting a superb replica of the Pattern 76 rifle. A weapon developed by the Germans and then bought by the British, it featured a special captive rod system at the muzzle which swings the ram rod directly over the muzzle without the problem of fiddling around trying to centre the rod. A single ram and the weapon is ready. It fires a .62 caliber ball and can fire between 5 and 6 times per minut...
All the comments from those ignorant to "medieval" or historical clothing and how to wear it is both frustrating and entertaining.
Is there a way to wrap to include the toes? Mine always are freezing even with modern, wool socks.
Not really, you need to wear them over socks to really help basically. :(
I wonder if puttees will help prevent ticks from crawling into up into my pants?
Absolutely perfect for the job! But be sure to de-tick anyway!
Hey a pair of 08 webbing shown on the Australian War Memorial website shows both a Pattern 1 and Pattern 2 Pouch being used would that be accurate at all?
Yeah its the left hand side pouches. That should be correct. Left side is the side that brushes against the trench wall and opens up and launches your ammo everywhere.
What places would you suggest for reproduction that are affordable talking couple hundred dollars
@@ned_Kelly1880 Affordable and quality dont often go hand in hand. I cant speak for WPG's current quality, but if you are in Australia, Lawrence Ordnance is the best. In the UK, SOF's more expensive stuff is probably the best easily accessible stuff you can get,.
Alright thanks

Completely beyond my skill i'm afraid.
Never was such an overtly complex webbing system invented. Ridiculous.
Court calls forth 37 pattern and German A Frame equipment to that stand please!
so .. hooks = bad ? so whats best solution ? string or simple tuck
If you can fold the end of the puttee into a point then attatch a 2-3 foot length of tablet weave that works perfectly, and matches loads of late roman manuscripts about their wearing. I always tuck though, never comes down for me.
07:08 Thats now ... nice and thight -thats what she said !
I dont know a thing about historical costume, but i do know one thing for sure, if your pants arent stretchy or super baggy in the crotch, theres no way you can squat down or throw kicks without ripping them appart, unless you are wearing ankle wraps. Thats why shaolin and ninjas wear them.
8 years later, that is one hell of a sport to know, big respect
Thank you! We still get them out every now and then! Love it!
What na amazing video! Thank you for that! I'm making from A to Z my first kit. I've seen my tunic and trousers (Thornsburg variation), now, I want to make the cloak and Winingas in the same materiam. Meaning I'll cut 2 full lenght straps of the wool (worsted, I know, it's not herringbone or 2x2 tweed, but it has stretch, and is a historical weave!) My question is : How to you sew the edge of the winingas. Hemming 10 foot 4 times seem a daunting task!
Its gonna be a loooooong job for you! But either a really tight hem or i guess a whip stitch could work for it!
@@TwoMikesProductions Haha, yep, I expected as much. I just finished both Trousers and tunic with contrasting edges. Days of sewing hems. guess I'll have to arm myself with yet a bit more patience!
@@TwoMikesProductions Thank you for your answer! In fact the material I got was just enough to make a large cloak (make is a large word : I got a 1.5m x 2 m fabric, so i basically bought a cloak! I'll order some already weaved ones, one day!
I suspect washing new (cotton) bindings may improve their characteristics. Especially if they shrink slightly and become more crinkled instead of smooth as when new.
Was always taught to wrap them anti clockwise
This video is as much use an impotent man in a brothel. Highlighting the lack of true genuine historical research of so called Living Historians yet again. Field Marshall Haig is turning in his grave sir!
Got directed here while researching Russian peasant leg bands.Who knew?
What was referred to as the valise was known as the small pack in the 37 pattern.

Got issued ankle puttees when enlisted british army 1979,wore them till 1982 till we got issued different type of boot
To think you were wearing a garment worn by infantry as far back as 1800bc Awesome longevity/.
To think we were wearing these bloody things in the early 1980s, although not wrapped all the way up the calf, just the top of the boot.
Yeah short ones! To be fair, soldiers have been wearing them since about a thousand BC!
I want to buy this kind of shoes in India can anyone help me ????
tyy these videos r my savior when im trying to figure out how to draw this stuff
any new videos?
Not yet! When the easter break comes around we might put one together for Leather Equipment and Pattern 14 stuff. I dont have a patreon or do it for pay rather than just for infomation for reenactors really so we are super slow with output. Its not really a channel designed around content release per se :)
Not a ladder lace it’s a speed lace
The stuff about nettles and especially dreaded gause is real During RM training they would not allow the use of gators due to them “looking unprofessional” and we must have had at least one lad every ex go down from infections from the hundreds of gause pricks we were getting going thru it Now imagining an England that was much more wild and no access to antiseptic they would have literally been a life saver Not to mention tight wet garments are so much warmer than loose wet garments
Absolutely nail on the head. Infection from small injury in a time without treatment could be potentially lethal. Not everyone is wearing these but I’d be willing wager anyone who works in the field or the woodland is wearing them for protection. This gets backed up by the various calendar paintings and late Roman images of field hunts in the woodland where the are explicitly wearing tight fitting puttees basically. Thanks for the comment!
great tutorial Many thanks
Hi love the video very informative just a quick question how about the ones made in India cheers
They look pretty garbage i'm afraid.
Has Quippy's been discontinued? Im having a very difficult time finding it and dont want to tap into my original 103
Discontinued a long time ago and it seems the finite reserves have either run out or become otherwise unobtainable. I recommend, if you have the warewithall to use the 'shoe cream' method. Which will provide you with a much long lasting solution. www.blancoandbull.com/
@@TwoMikesProductions thank you much!!
It is one way to ladder lace, but not the correct way for the British Army. The knot in the lace then through the first eyelet then snake the single lace across and up, acros and up all the way to the top, then wrap the remaining length of lace around the top of the boot a couple of times and secure it by tucking it under the lace and pull to tighten. This method has been used for well over a century, so I can't understand why you'd want to teach something completely different.
Multiple methods are used, i even state the knot and loop method as well. Use either. As long as they are ladder laced.
Fascinating... Huzzah!! 😊
Los alemanes son mucho mejor que vosotros: en todos los ejercicios de instrucción , incluso hoy , la Wehrmacht ya no la nombro pues ningún ejército podía compararse con ella.

Wow mike i saw you in my school
I'm an amateur historian in America, who having retired, decided to get back into my study of the Great War. Just discovered the channel, and enjoyed the video so much, I subscribed. Here in the West of the US, there's not a lot of Re-Enactors going on in this region. My Great Uncle fell near the end of the War, and I do have his Compass that was sent by his mates to my Great-Grandparents. He was a gunner on an artillary crew, so I assume he used it as part of sighting the gun. It still works. Amazing, as it's over a hundred years old. Enjoyed the presentation, and I'm looking forward to watching more.
Thank you so much
I wrote to you earlier but I don't see my post. YT must've deleted it. Anyways, I was asking for your help with Black Raven Crafts. I went to him and told him you sent me his way. I paid him $123 on November 11th for leg wraps. He has not sent them and has now stopped writing to me. I am going to see if PP can get me a refund, but I would rather have the leg wraps. Can you reach out to him to see what the delay is? I hope this all works out in the end. Let me know, and if you cannot get anywhere with him, I'll try for the refund. I certainly hope he didn't steal my money.
Hello, im afraid I have absolutely zero contact that trader. Im afraid id just be another random person saying ‘where is this persons stuff’ . All I can say is make another contact with him on Facebook. Sorry I can’t help any further
@@TwoMikesProductions Thank you. I hope you stop recommending him at least, so others don't get cheated. Again, if he comes through, I'll let you know and I'll be happy. In the meantime, I'm heading to PP to seek a refund.
Dont think i've recommened him at all and I certainly dont in the video which is now five years old. I hope you get your products though!@@HroduuulfSonOfHrodger
@@TwoMikesProductions So I wasn't sure if you were also recommending them to others. That's what I meant. All is well! Sorry for any confusion.
@@HroduuulfSonOfHrodger not a problem! Hope you get your stuff though!
Is there a video on how to do this with shorter, baggy norse/rus pants without pant fabric over the calves?
Apply the winningas directly to the skin running them all the way up the calf to just beneath the knee. Is there fabric on your big baggies anywhere south of the knee or does it stop just there? I cant see there beeing much problem with a tiny gap between top of winningas and bottom of trousers.
You actually help me lace them like the navy does, I had to try a few times to get it done correctly, love your accent, great video and tutorial
Cheers! Glad it helps!
@@TwoMikesProductions do you have any advice on how to prevent the laces coming unlaced while wearing the boots
@@MadamButterfly_82 Hmmm. What laces are you using? I find square style laces are superior to regular 'circular' style laces as they grip themselves well.
@@TwoMikesProductions The laces are fat and thick with a narrow cylinder shape
My grandfather used them during Word War I
Yeah, but, uh... could you slap your calf again please sir and thank you.

Mike, I have Elisabeth making me a pair of her leg bindings as you highly recommended in this video. Not sure how long it will take her. In the meantime, you mentioned one or two other places that also make great leg wraps. I don't see those shops in your video description. I think you mentioned one in Germany. Can you send me the links so I can also buy a pair or two from them? Thanks in advance!
Old video so the original link was no longer viable. Try these guys though! They are doing precisely the ones I wear, but with added garment straps. facebook.com/profile.php?id=100057332533674 (Black Raven Crafts)
@@TwoMikesProductions Thanks Mike. I will check it out now. Thanks for the link!
Well Done!
How come your showing both ranks of lcpl and sergeant
Blue three stripes are overseas chevrons, issued in 1918 for soldiers who had spent in the conflict overseas. Three blue means 15,16 and 17. If you have a red one it means you were deployed in 1914. These would be rather rare for regular infantry as the vast majority of the british army were deployed later than 14. :)
Funny seeing you here!
I got some wool ones from Germany for my Viking cosplay/ Norse wedding attire. I've struggled getting them to stay put. Thank you for this video
I had a question, can the braces that attach to the web belt be also attached to the ends of the small pack so you can shoulder carry it? I plan on turning a spare p08 small pack I have into a cartridge box for carrying ammo for my flintlock muskets and the small pack will serve perfectly i just need a cross belt to carry it
Yep, i've done that very thing mate! I use it when Shotgun Shooting, so its perfect.
