You did a wonderful job showing your process. I'm an older woman. I've been sewing and crocheting since forever. Been considering a RUclips channel, but not sure what. You've inspired me, young one! 😥😊
This was amazing. Thank you so much for sharing!
LOL I use random objects as weight too! This soft sculpture is super intriguing. Loved watching your process. Thanks for sharing <3
Sometimes you just have to make do, haha. Thank you for watching xoxo
thank you so much for sharing this! i love soft sculpture but am super intimidated by sewing and stuffing because it is not an artistic medium they teach about in schools. you're so skilled with a needle and thread, i hope i get there someday too :-)
This is so good to hear, I think my interest and pursuit of soft sculpture has been in direct opposition to how underaclnowledged it is in art education! It is a sculptural medium just like any other and is often overlooked bc of its ties to craft and more “feminine practices”.
LOVE!! You're a genius
Aw thank you 🙈
what you said about collage predominantly featuring as fashion media... you are SO on point. I was recently reintroduced to the medium in a queer collaging group run by a friend and it's COMPLETELY changed my view on it :) i really like your approach of it as sort of putting to use things that would otherwise just be scrap from more involved projects, its sort of like taking re-ownership of your own 'trash' and making it good and artful and intentional, i really love that
Thank you, I loved reading this comment <3 I think it's so important to reclaim collage outside of these aspirational, corporatized images of beauty. deconstruction! trash! exploration! these are ideas that are so much more interesting to investigate.
this was so impressive!!! I could tell immediately from the opening shot that turning and stuffing this piece was going to be a task and a half haha, you did an amazing job!!
Thank you so much (o: cargocollective.com/annmoody/soft-looms-1 I've got the finished piece posted to my website if you're interested! It's changed a lot since this video tbh
it looks so cool! how would you clean it? i found a soft sculpture at good will from 1991 and cant find anything online for what to use to clean it with
hm, I'm not exactly sure? I've never washed any of my sculptures before. My mother used to wash my stuffed animals inside of pillow cases on the delicate cycle, not sure what size the soft sculpture you found is but maybe that could work for you? Very cool find, btw
Cleaning stuffed stuff can be tricky. If it's all cotton outside and polyester fiberfill filling, any washing machine will do. If not, or if you're not sure, talk to your local dry cleaner. They should be able to guide you.
Really interesting piece! Love it 👍🏽
Thank you, Sergio!!
having just gotten one of your drawings in the mail, i can confirm: your art makes people happy!! 🦋🥳🎨
Omg I’m so happy you like your drawing!! You’ve really brightened my day 🥰💟
I prefer the texture of these over normal acrylics. It is much easier to get flat, opaque color without brush strokes. I don't like to dilute my acrylics since it makes the paint more transparent and can affect the longevity of the piece.
I think it’s so great you prefer the new matte paints-I think you’re right about the brush strokes! Much easier to get a smooth application. Personally, I like working with transparent paint and applying it in this layers to build up opacity. I’m curious how mixing with water affects the longevity?
@@vogtdig That's fair! I do a lot of mixed media so I usually use watercolors underneath and then acrylic or gouache on top, but that does require a whole other set of paint and more setup. It may not actually affect the longevity of your work. It is just something I had drilled into me by an old art teacher because on some surfaces adding too much water can cause the paint to flake or not be resistant to water. I have heard it other places as well, but the general consensus seems to be that absorbent surfaces like paper won't have that issue.
That’s so interesting! Thank you for all the info 💟✍️
Such a good good dog
GOD he’s so good I love him
hey honestly i felt that same way about selling my work, and i do feel like im selling out and making cheap things. but ya know, art is the only thing i really enjoy doing and if i have to pay bills then i have to capitalize off it i guess. i have a job on the side but i still struggle with income, so i totally feel you!!!
Thank you for sharing, it’s so helpful to hear someone feels the same as me! I think as artists we’re conditioned to think if we aren’t selling paintings for thousands of dollars and represented by a gallery that we’re failing but that’s just not true! There’s just not enough support for working artists out there, of course we’re struggling. Your work has value!!!
good luck!
Thank you, Jeremi 🪢
6:31 dog!
i'd love to see your bullet journal!
I’ll probably show it off soon-still figuring out what structure works best for me
i had a really similar thing, i finished my undergrad last year and had a lot of big plans for this year, (trying to get shows and residencies) and then the pandemic happened and everything closed and i couldn't make the work i wanted to make and everything kind of just fell apart. i'm in australia where the virus is like mostly under control and everything started opening up again relatively early, but it just totally derailed me, i was so motivated at the beginning of the year and then the pandemic happening was like driving into a wall. so i don't think anyone should feel bad about not achieving what they wanted to achieve this year. but i did get into the masters program i applied for next year so that's something!
It’s been so hard to proceed as planned when everything around us has been crumbling and all sense of stability has been lost...I’m really proud of you for getting into your Master’s program, despite all of these setbacks. We’re all doing the best we can 💟 it’s helpful to know we’re struggling together 🪢
@@vogtdig thanks 😊 the arts have been so hard hit everywhere, it's definitely good to know that you're not the only one who felt like the rug was pulled out from under them
i loved this!💕 i actually just posted the same video! this year definitely did NOT go as planned lol😅
lol if we survived this year then I guess we'll be alright. I'll be sure to check out your video! thanks for reaching out
This is my favorite video so far. I feel like the only things I'm proud of accomplishing this year are getting back into writing (I started tracking my word count and I've written over 100k since like, the end of summer?), then staying sober, and then just like surviving in general. 🙃 Also I am very good at administrative things!!! Pls hmu if you ever need help! 😊 Organizing is a fun challenge for me!
Thank you, I was nervous about doing a video of only me talking and no like...drawing or painting or whatever lol. That’s so amazing that you did all that, especially writing that many words in such a short time! Thanks for offering to help 🥺
i didn’t write goals but i think i would have oddly reached a lot of the goals i had for 2020, but how they played out looked SO much different than i thought they were going to. i need to do a better job of actually setting goals and writing them down, but i think fear gets to me too, like i’ll be a failure if i don’t get to check the boxes. looking forward to the next vid where you formulate your goals for next year!
I’m glad you reached most of your goals-so much has changed for you this year!! It helps me to write goals down cause otherwise I’ll just forget them lmao 😂 checking those boxes off is really satisfying tho ✍️📝💦
Really enjoyed your books review. I just discovered Molly Zuckerman Hartung right before I discovered your video. I am a beginner abstract, non-objective painter and love collage and assemblage too. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you.
Oh wonderful, how serendipitous! Thank you so much for watching and commenting, it’s always so reassuring to find someone with whom I have so much in common 🤎
i totally thought those fuzzy blubs were intentional! i love how it turned out
Thank you ❣️ happy accidents 🌀

The vibes of those custom skins... I loved the cluster of eyeballs and the green-headed alien man
I like ur bread clip necklace!!
Thank you! It’s from @ _mamajewelery on instagram 👄

I see what you mean about the "bleed" on those markers. Beautiful.
Thank you 🤎 they’re a dream to work with, very expressive ✍️
the black and white filter value trick is so useful! also sorry i knocked over your youtube light 😖
It’s been helpful when I remember to use it 😂 nbd it’s just a lightbulb on a stand with a fabric box around it, pretty indestructible 💣
i found your youtube channel through tumblr where i've been following you for maybe 5 years and i just wanna say i'm really enjoying them, i find them really soothing and i really enjoy getting to hear about your process while you make! i'm also an artist but i make work that's totally different to what you do, and it's just so nice getting an insight into a totally different way of making :)
Omg tumblr fam 🤝 🍬 I think it’s so cool you’re able to connect with my work even if our subject matter is dissimilar! Tysm for watching 🥺
ahh i really love hearing you talk about your experiences.
Thank you 🥺🤎🧬
thank you for sharing! i feel like ur thoughts are always worthwhile - they're very layered and make me want to do art research myself 🧵🍱🎠
Thank you 🪢 doing research really helps me to stay motivated + focused! I highly recommend it, especially if you’re ever feeling isolated 👥📚
Anna, I really enjoy watching your videos documenting your art practice. I finished grad school in 2016 and felt the same kind of lost. I also completed a sketchbook in 4 years, lol.
Thank you 🤎 It’s a relief to know I’m not alone in feeling so lost and unmotivated to sketch, haha. Hopefully you’ve recovered from the MFA trauma 😂
really dig that laura owens book! also I always love seeing what you find in secondhand stores. 🥰
I know it’s so so sick! Basically an art object in itself lol
great vid ! relaxing
Thank you for watching, glad I could be a stress reliever 🍃👯♀️
i would be curious to see how you mix paint colors/how much you mix up close
That’s a great idea, I’ll try to include close shots of paint mixing in future videos 🧤💟
love it!!!
love hearing about ur process and thoughts!! i find it super valuable as a mixed media artist myself 😊✳️
Thank you, I think it’s so important to be open about my process and I’m so glad that’s important to you as well 🍃🔗

i have always been inspired by your organizational skills if i can just be quite honest.
I don’t have good object permanence so if I can’t see everything I own and have it close to me I forget it exists 💭
the color, the forms, the texture. wow, whoa, what??
it's ok, it doesn't have to make sense.
i love pentel brush pens, big big fan. as i recall i think once you said they are the pen that can smell your fear, and wow, yes i agree.
fear does have a distinct stinkiness.
if i had a basket like that, i think i would put fruit in it like you, but i also think maybe i would try putting my cat in that so i could maybe snap a quick picture.
it IS perfectly cat-sized so I don't blame u
The markers remind me of going to space camp in sixth grade. It was a merit based day trip, and we pretended to be ground control guiding the landing of a Mars mission. I mention it was merit based because I'm pretty sure I conned my way in (I was a bad student).
i cannot relate to this story but i'm happy to hear you have experiences.
If I had a basket like that I'd put like lil pieces of paper or maybe stones in it.
you should try making your own for stones
Marking that paper like I ain't never seen! Oooooohweeeee!
Right?! shoewee
Love your desk tour! You have so many more supplies than I do and can probably put them to better use. Your organizational skills are tremendous.
