Life With Sam & Andy
Добавлен 16 фев 2024
Hello there!
We are Sam & Andy… We’ve just started our first ever van conversion on a VW LT35. (named Patricia)
We’re very nervous as we’ve no clue what we’re doing! 😅🤣
We thought other people might be in a similar situation, so we figured we’d document our journey.
We also love hiking, wild camping, fitness & food. So we will be sharing all of that too.
We hope you enjoy following along with us! ❤️

A pull out toilet in the shower. Van Build Series
I this video, we cut a hole in the newly built shower cubicle and replaced it with a water tight door. We then added a pull out tray that will eventually have a toilet sitting on it.
We saw a lot of people have the toilet sitting in the shower and then take it out when they want a shower. We didn’t want that, so we decided to build a pull out system.
As always, we made up most of it as we went along, but it turned out ok!
Hope you enjoy the video and don’t forget to subscribe.

Switch Board & Pre Wire
Просмотров 28914 дней назад
I (Andy) was really not in the mood today. Allergies and a head cold got the better of me, so sorry for the grumpy attitude! In this video, we got the switch board made up (huge shoutout to our friends over at @Crozierrr ). We also got some of the cables in place that were given to us from the previous owner. Cladding the shower in the campervan.
Просмотров 64621 день назад
We got some beautiful cladding for the shower from Reco Surfaces. We did one wall in that and the other walls plain white. Lots of stress in this video as Andy has never done silicone before and was panicking it wouldn’t look good. But we’re very happy with the end result. Let us know what you think! Building a bench seat with storage.

In this video, we’re building a bench seat in the van. We also wanted to implement some storage, that was easy to access. So we made a pull out seat base and added carpet to everything. Building a shower cubicle in the van.

We’ve got the shower tray, but we need some walls! Again, we didn’t frame the shower. This saved a bit of time, space and money. Instead we cut all the walls to size and then used pocket holes to connect it all together. We’re very happy with the results! Let us know what you think. Installing a shower tray.
Просмотров 4233 месяца назад
Our next job is to start on the shower area. For this, we need a shower tray! We had the shower tray made from metal and to a size we wanted. The common shower trays used in vans are cheap, which is amazing, but they are also small and flimsy and we’ve heard of them cracking! Because there’s so many aspects to installing a shower/bathroom, we’re breaking up the videos into smaller chunks. Hope ...
Ply lining, window frames and bed beams!
Просмотров 6453 месяца назад
We have decided to not frame and clad the van. Instead, we’re ply lining it and then building straight on top. Whether that’s a good idea or not… only time will tell! We also managed to get the bed beams in and some STUNNING window frames, made by the incredibly talented team @Crozierrr Hope you enjoy the video and don’t forget to subscribe. Installing Carpet In Our Campervan Cabin
Просмотров 2928 месяцев назад
The original flooring in these vans is HORRIBLE and it had to go. After sorting out the leaky door seals… We added a bit of sound deadening where possible, then added a nice thick insulation. Covered it in 4 way stretch carpet and topped it off with a brand new mat. We won’t lie… we are SUPER proud of ourselves with the finished product. And it’s made SUCH a difference in the cab, when it comes...
Spray Painting The Dashboard.

Theres nothing nice about 20 year old, grimy grey plastic. So its time to paint! We are SOOO happy with the end result. its made a massive difference to the feel of the cab. it just seem so new now! The Buzzweld paint we used was so easy to apply. Although we did run out have way through, so the videos are a bit overlapped! lets us know what you think! Hope you enjoy the video and don’t forget ...

Defo like the idea of a stailess tray, what size have you gone for?
Great idea for the hidden toilet. Have a great xmas guys.
Thank you 🙏🏽 Happy holidays! x
Bobs your uncle and butts ya arse ya arse guys. Fantastic job. Loving this build. Great job Andy and Sam. Team makes this dream work ❤😊❤😊🎉🎉 Lisa UK xxxx
Aw thanks Lisa! We really appreciate that. Have a great Christmas 🥰
Another great job by handy Andy. Love it. Merry Christmas to you guys.
Haha. Thank you! Merry Christmas 🎅🏽
To check a square place on straight edge of a board draw a line flip left & right if on the line then its square You can get a set of silicone finishing pads for a few pounds. watch some videos
Greatly appreciate that ☺️
Do you rate the Reco tiles? Are they worth the price?
We’re so happy with these. They are expensive though (hence why we only did one wall!) I looked everywhere for a “whole sheet” style cladding, as this was our only waterproofing and these are definitely the best I could find.
@lifewithsamandandy Thanks. It looks like you used much less than a whole sheet. Did you find somewhere selling smaller sheets?
Sorry, what I meant was a single sheet of cladding, rather than the smaller style tile ones that need to be joined at the edges. I didn’t want to risk having joints. The Reco ones come as an 8’x4’ sheets so yes, there was quite a bit of wastage.
Keep up the great vids. He looks fed up today 😆 🤣 it will be worth it 👌
🤣🤣 I’ll be in a better mood next time. Promise 😆
@lifewithsamandandy we don't mind the moody you, it makes it more real! Keep up the great vids and work.
❤️
Great vid 👌
Thank you ❤️
No wonder you're happy. It looks great.
Aw thank you so much ❤️
Hi Andy what car are your seats out of
Hi! I’m actually not sure. 🤔 I found them on facebook marketplace and the guy just said he’d taken them out of a micro camper. I was hoping someone might recognise them and tell me! 😆
You're not a light person? I dread to think how strong my seats are going to have to be to support me. I think I'll need a 7.5 tonner. Great video btw
🤣🤣🤣 I’ve actually seen some incredible 7.5 builds. If I was going to live off grid, it’d be in one of those 🔥 Thanks again for watching. Andy 💪🏼
Good idea sam.
Glad you think so! Thank you ☺️
Great teamwork.
There’s still plenty of bickering, but we try our best 😆🥰
❤good one.
Thank you ☺️
Talented. No way I could have done that.
Really appreciate that ❤️
2 inch batons used to be 2 inches until we went over to metric measurements
It my own fault for not double checking. It’s just so easy to say “2x2” when buying them 😆
Great vid pal keep up the good work 👏
Thank you! We’re getting there slowly ☺️
From Canada: great job! Too bad, you didn't ask the pan manufacturer to add a second fold in the sheet metal that could have been used to provide a waterthight screwing support for the three walls.
Hi! 👋🏽 Yeh good idea! I think as we go on, we’ll find lots of “should of” and “would of” situations 😂 Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Great build so far. I've just binge watched the videos to catch up. One thing that crossed my mind was, will having a sloping shower tray make any real difference? Surely it will only work if the van is on level ground or sloping on the same direction as the tray
We questioned this too (after it was built 😆). I suppose it all helps 🤷🏽♂️🙈 Thanks for binging! 😊😊
Great job guys 👍🏻
Thank you 😁❤️
Hey both, great to see you cracking on with your build 🙂. One question, when securing the skorva beam brackets to the ply board, im guessing you also went into the metal behind for extra strength? What screws did you use to go through the metal? Did you pilot hole first? 👍
Hi Brendan! Thanks for watching ☺️ Yes we went through the mental van beam too. We used self drilling bolts. I think they were a type of roofing screw 🧐 They didn’t need a pilot hole due to them being self drilling. We saw a lot of people using Riv nuts for this job. But we spoke to an engineer friend who said these bolts would be absolutely fine. Plus it saved us buying a riveter 😆
What shop did you go to get the carpet ?
I found a place on facebook marketplace! He had a small workshop on the side of a farm. I had to drive 40mins to get there though 🙈😅
hey, what sandpaper did you use?
We used 400 grit. But really we should have used something a bit higher. X
I don't know but the drainage holes you drilled will also allow water projected by the front wheels to go back where you don't want it to go.
I suppose there is a chance of that, but after reading about it from other people... nobody has said there was any issue. I guess time will tell! 🙈
Looking good :)
Thank you ☺️❤️
New sub! Great video guys 👍
Really appreciate that. 🫶🏽🙏🏽
I installed p12 pro. But when a car comes to overtake on the right side, the mirror cam display shows the left side on the p12. Why?
Do you mean the reverse camera is showing the car on the left instead of the right?
For getting the nut or bolts through the box section, u could have drilled a bigger hole on the top to allow u to drop the bolt through👍🏻
We realised this afterwards and felt stupid for not thinking about it sooner 🤣🤣🤣
hello
good morning from six gears vanlife on youtube also
Morning! ❤️
Hi Big Bob down in Wolverhampton, have subscribed partly because I am going to buy a van soon, as my stealth car camper died, but mainly I can't leave you with 4 subscribers, RUclips is really hard and really not worth the time, in lockdown i did a channel got 3k subs and a million views, payed out $1000, your looking at $1 per 1000 views, to be honest for the work unless your really lucky forget it, your doing everything right, #hastags etc, to be honest you can make more on TikTok if your trying to make a bit on the side, much less effort, no editing
Sorry to hear about the camper Bob! Thank you for the subscription, we’re super grateful. We will definitely check out TikTok too. Even if we don’t get many subscribers on here, the videos it might still help someone in the future 🙌🏽
