Chen Zhaosen describes reverse breathing
‘Reverse breathing’ also known as ‘Taoist breathing’ is widely regarded as a requirement for the development of qi. Although it is ubiquitous throughout all traditional Qi Gongs and martial systems and styles it is rarely taught. Whether this is because it is regarded as a secret transmission, an overburdening additional element to an already complex learning process or because there are potential health risks to excessive pressurisation of the body is unclear. Caution should be observed when developing this technique. The subtitled translation has been kindly provided by John Prince.
