That would be the scout unit from the Life faction actually. Every faction has their own scout units that you can recruit for cheap and they are good early on to get coverage and vision of the map so you know where things are like the mines, breweries and other faction's capital cities.
The Earth scout unit does the same sound as well if you watch my Earth run. They reuse a couple of unit sprites for a few of the factions like the mounted units are shared between two factions (ie. Earth and Death, Air and Life, Order and Water, Chaos and Fire)
Just finished water 2 time to listen piece meal at work to water 3, looks like a fun play through, I feel like lizard men and water elemental are OP to carry you
Haha, glad you are enjoying the run. Yeah the Water faith was one of the few factions I remember was a lot fun back in the day. Definitely an underrated faction and is a lot of fun once you find the cheap tactics you can use.
I was honestly really surprised how tanky the Earth warrior was. It was crazy in the early parts of my Earth run. Definitely would recommend trying it out yourself
Man those sea gulls are soo good as scouts , no wonder other factions wanted to trade for one, I feel like an army of archers, lizard men and a couple mages would be OP
Yeah, any flying unit is actually op in this game. Like you can cheese almost anything with flying units and the terrain of the map/battle field. Just look at my Air run for reference haha.
3:46:00 oh that spell make the victim suffocate or possibly limit their movement. It make sense that the air folk would cut the air supply of their victim. That what that really long word means😅 but the accuracy of spell is 25% which explains why you didn't get to see what the spell did
I'm pretty sure that when I did this review I fully did not try everything single spell for each faith. Rather I remember using what worked for me and stuck with that to beat each campaign. Of course there's different ways and tactics you could use in this game so I went with a play style that worked for me and it was still fun after all these years.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed watching through one of my runs. I still have the other faiths as well if you would like to take a gander at those other LoM campaigns.
Agreed. For a really old game on the PC, the soundtrack was awesome and voice acting wasn't even bad/corny. You could tell the devs were really passionate about their game from those things alone I would say.
Thanks for the comment, hope you liked the review. I think you can still run the game on Win 10 if you are playing this on PC/steam (that's the version I was playing when I streamed this). Of course if you still have the CD-rom and and a disk drive then that would be even better (original software ftw!)
it's funny to me that he is constantly belittles water's riders when he hyped up order's knights... But they are literally the exact same unit with all the same numbers. Also the spiders, while not being crazy one-man armies, are solid units in their own right. You get two for one, they're less expensive than some tier 2 magic creatures, and they get a free souped-up entangle every fight, which I have discovered is SO GOOD for pinning down balkoth. They also can walk on water, which is handy for storming death's capital to the north.
I'm sure I didn't flame the Water cavalry that much when I did the run (it has been over 2 years haha), but I did enjoy playing as Order more than I did Water. I did do an entire review of all faiths and gave an overview of what I liked and didn't like about each faction. It's strictly my own opinion and general review as I played the game of course so I'm sure we have different takes on which faith is more fun to play through. The spiders weren't bad, but comparing to the other great temple units you can recruit kind of makes them less appealing. I'm sure you could probably just hire an entire squad of spiders and just web enemies over again but that's the beauty of older games like this one. You could approach fights with different strategies or whatever style you like/enjoy. Thanks for the comment and watching one of my videos.
@@fortinbras2559 I've been enjoying your playthroughs! There aren't a lot of people that cover this old gem. Once I patched the glitch that makes pegasi spawn in chaos's dungeons, They easily became my favorite faction the play. Chaos magic is random, but it is still really good for you way more than it is bad. And yeah the spiders are a much different kind of unit than the other legends, but when you're dealing with one big threat like balkoth or an ice drake, just having one spiderweb to turn that unit off is amazing.
I'm glad you're enjoying the Lords of Magic game play then. And yeah if you really take the time to play this old school game you find the most broken/OP combos and tactics that make the game super easy. There's no way you can get that with modern games since they can patch/update bugs, glitches and broken mechanics now.
I think I always picked either the 13 to 15. Cause it gave me more of a one front for attacks and defending. I don't remember if I played this version of the next but this has a pretty close feel.
Starting territory right? Haha yeah I believe I used a randomizer to select my starting base. I don't know if I showed it or not on the video it could have been live on my twitch channel but it made it a little bit more interesting rather than choosing a starting territory away from the AI and taking over unclaimed cities. Once you know the game's mechanics, this one was not that difficult to beat, more like it takes a good amount of time if you plan on manually controlling every single territory you conquered/owned (as I did throughout this whole playthrough)
This is on the SNES. I emulated it to play on stream. I had done a mini Romance marathon a few years back and gotten wiped on Romance 2 originally so I had to revisit and beat this officially on stream. I was debating whether I should upload the rest of of ROTK playthroughs on youtube or not since I had done Romance 2 to test it. Maybe I'll upload the others if there's any interest from this one.
I just recently bought this game on steam. Couldn't get my original CD to cooperate. I have played this so long ago with Air and Life and beat with both. Never finished with Death. Looking forward to replaying this again this year.
That's awesome, yeah I still have the CD-rom for this but my current PC doesn't have the driver for it so I played this via steam. Great game for its time probably a hidden gem but it's for sure worth playing if you enjoy this kind of game.
Haha thanks for the time stamp. This was the very first Lords of Magic stream I did and I didn't know at the time whether I was going to play through everything like I did or if this was a one and done deal. I'm glad I chose the former and now we have every faith completed.
Yeah really, me trying to recall playing this game as a kid in the 90's I don't think I ever made it past liberating the great temples for any faith haha.
For sure it does, especially in the early parts of the game as you really don't have a lot of units yet. You have to play according to your strengths and weaknesses until you have the resources and followers to start building up your army and then it's a cakewalk for the most part afterwards.
Well Warriors have it easy since you can just tank a lot of damage early and have your ranged units attack. A Mage and Thief would have to have some kind of front line (cannon fodder merc units) to be able to survive but that's the tactic I used in most of the runs I have uploaded. Of course these vids aren't new so I can't recall everything I did during my Lords of Magic runs.
It's been awhile since I last played this so I can't really remember but I do have a comprehensive video/review of all the factions if you want to take a look at that and hear what I said about each faith. If not all good, also sorry no timestamps for each specific faith when I reviewed it.
The power of water is showing itself at late game when the ships are to be used. For the faction - not so good as it could be, but you can create water terrain at your castle 😂 TBO not my fav faction, but they are really gods of the seas.
Yeah in theory the Water faith excels in naval combat, if only the regular campaign had more battles on water. I barely fought on water terrain playing as this faction let alone the others so it's really kind of a wasted potential. You can honestly win the normal game just using land units and conquering all the other groups once you have enough strong units so there's little reason to ever use ships other than for transport/exploration purposes.
what if those pegasus drops are for the chaotic mages? maybe one of those spells would do a dumb amount of damage to 'em. I'm sure it was no bug having pegasus stashed away in chaos land
No it was, in the original CD-rom of the game there were normal enemy spawns for Chaos. The steam version of the game (which I was playing here) coded it wrong to have random pegasus unit in those early dungeons. It was not intentional...or maybe it was on the guys that ported the game over to PC haha.
This game is old I get that, I even like that, but I find myself scouring the internet just to learn how to disband mercs and whatnot when there could have been an easy button, at least in Lords of the Realm 2 I know what I'm fighting for. I've logged 6 hours and started a new playthru to better my start, but it's just to tedious and to much like hero of might and magic for me
I remember playing dino crisis when it came out.I honestly never found dinosaurs so intense besides playing the Jurassic Park game on super nintendo.😅 they should remake this game and the sequel was pretty fun fun too
That's exactly what I was saying when I was playing through this game for the first time haha. It might still happen given the state of games getting remakes or remasters so maybe Capcom will remember Dino Crisis one day.
Hi! If you were still interested in this game at some point, there's a community made patch by a guy named Mantera which fixes lots of the issues with the game (including the pegasus issue) and has lots of QOL improvements. Kind of hard to get your hands on the most recent one, but super easy to swap in and out (just replace 2 files).
Just to chime in, I'm pretty sure going from regular death mage (necromancer) and upgrading to lich provides not just extra mana. It also gives you a buttload more wisdom iirc. Wisdom affects spell damage and I think at some point, will allow you to cast curse as multiple bolts instead of a single. Might not be the best legendary creature option, but lich's wisdom is really strong. Also, water's legendary spiders are not that bad if you micro them. They're not strong by themselves at all, but their web is pretty strong and can absolutely wreck lv 15 lord's if you got strong missile/range units doing aimed missiles at them. With enough spiders, I think 2-3 groups is enough, you can stunlock a unit down indefinitely. Really useful for killing lone lv 15' lords that wander around.
I'm glad for the feedback because this game is definitely fun and there's still a lot of things I didn't even know. When I played through all of this on stream I went for what I saw had potential that you could notice right away but there's other strategies/tactics you can use if you find a clever use for them. Thanks for the comment.
@@fortinbras2559 Yea, unfortunately without the mod/patch, it doesn't show you all the small details that make the units unique/strong. Some units might seem good on paper (fire warrior), but their reflex stat along with their attack speed means if they're getting hit/surrounded by a lot of units, they can never get off an attack while flinching while life warriors basically never flinch and can always keep attacking. It's probably my favorite childhood game along with its music. Even now, I have some runs and roleplay scenarios/create maps!
I have no idea why the Bowl/Fruit Basket is needed, it didn't let you toss it away. Probably a bug in the game. You CAN however, use the Bowl on yourself (not totally sure), but there's rotten fruit in it you can taste for some reason. Nice going!
It was bugged because I checked guides after this and it was for sure an item that's not needed and can be discarded but it wouldn't let me in my file. Also I was trying to see if I could discover how many ways you could die in this game in case you didn't notice during the playthrough haha.
Ugh. Brutal dude! But that's how blind runs work with games. I watched the entire thing, about to get to Part 2 soon, I'll give a like, and just subbed.
If I recall from playing this game you need to conserve ammo or you won't have enough by the end and well it's probably not going to be easy to try to beat the game at that point, might have to restart game if you burned through a lot of ammo and healing items.
When you reached the top of that huge all, around the 1.5 hour mark into this video maybe a bit before then, thats one of my favorite moments in this game when you're looking over the wall.
lol yeah to each their own. Having played all the factions in the game, I had more fun with some than others of course but can't like all of them equally you know but thanks for the input.
@@fortinbras2559 Yeah i generally prefer when someone is having fun playing like when you get all excited as the enemy die from the earth warrior imbued with lightning are fun to watch.
When you find an item/artifact after clearing a dungeon, you can double click it to see its description. Certain items are usable on specific classes and faiths only so you can't equip it on every unit. Also the items are only used on the champion unit which means it's the thief, warrior or mage class only.
so... i think i needa have someone sit down and show me the "basics" of this game... i still don't know how to "use"/"equipp" items?... that's a thing?.... k
i continuously go thru the game on medium... right now... i have balkoth hiding somewhere and i'm going around conquering all the dungeons and such... but i still don't know how to do certain basic thingys :P
@johnturner992 sorry about the late reply. You can access the "stats" page by double clicking the unit on your party bar. Then you can see your items and it's all double click to read its description and click and drag to equip to an open hand.
lol.... so.... just started watching this... i'm actually about 30 minutes into it... but i use it as like "white noise"/background music... while i do other stuff... lmao... so i noticed u found out that in the "Chaos" land... for SOME reason.. the "level 2" "hideouts" have a ....'PEGASUS"...right.."level 2"...right...lmao... i've found that's "unique" to the Chaos faction ...
idk if it's a "Mistake"/bug in the making of the game...or if that's deliberate... but yeah... as you've mentioned ... there's no way to beat a "pegasus" at low level
lol... i play Life faction...and i notice when i make my way into the Chaos region in late game... i send in mid-level parties...and i'm like "oh a level 2 hideout"..."easy..i'll just "autocalc"". ....lmao... then i die...and see that i fought a fucking pegasus...like how the even fuck is a pegasus in a "level 2 hideout"...anyway... think chaos is a hard faction to start out as...
That's the Pegasus bug, it's not supposed to be there but the steam copy of this game has it for whatever reason. You can download a mod to fix that bug if you want to play the CD-rom version of the game but yeah it's pretty annoying to play as Chaos for that reason.
Pegasus bug FTW. lol. How is that Stream copy of this game working for you? No. The dungeon does not spawn them. There is some kind of unofficial patch for this bug because the people on steam were dumb enough to emulate an unstable version of the game with a bad Pegasus bug patch.
Yeah as I was playing through this edition of the game as is, it had a few bugs and missing things from the actual CD-rom (which I still own but can't run on my current pc) as you can see. Of course you can run mods and the like to the steam copy so I guess it fixes those kinds of bugs haha.
For me, the best thing for a Priestess was the Staff of Drowning. Using that staff, I could have her clear out a level 8 tower single-handed! Polymorph Self can be extremely powerful when done well. Quite often, you'll get a cyclops in your party for the duration of combat for free! Of course there's also a chance that you'll turn into something a good deal squishier, but that's the fun of Chaos magic!
The life priest was my favorite mage of and strong alot buffs and damage spells and good healing, paired of life and order unites and you destory the game. Lancelot is the most op thing in the game because hes the only chapion from the temple that can wear op items.
Theres no way I could beat this in 2 sittings lol. SNES RPGs! leeeetttttssss ggggggoooooooooo
crazy how fast you can smash these games!
I still got it I suppose, it's hard to forget these things if you're a gamer haha

hey can u explain to me how to use items?,,,,artifacts and such... lmao... i still can't do it?
Then you can see your items and it's all double click to read its description and click and drag to equip to an open hand.
lol.... so.... just started watching this... i'm actually about 30 minutes into it... but i use it as like "white noise"/background music... while i do other stuff... lmao... so i noticed u found out that in the "Chaos" land... for SOME reason.. the "level 2" "hideouts" have a ....'PEGASUS"...right.."level 2"...right...lmao... i've found that's "unique" to the Chaos faction ...
idk if it's a "Mistake"/bug in the making of the game...or if that's deliberate... but yeah... as you've mentioned ... there's no way to beat a "pegasus" at low level
lol... i play Life faction...and i notice when i make my way into the Chaos region in late game... i send in mid-level parties...and i'm like "oh a level 2 hideout"..."easy..i'll just "autocalc"". ....lmao... then i die...and see that i fought a fucking pegasus...like how the even fuck is a pegasus in a "level 2 hideout"...anyway... think chaos is a hard faction to start out as...
plus...i think Chaos has ridiculous "weak" units'....like... wtf is a "stickthrower"?...lmao...

Yeah that's the charm of this game, there's so much strategies you can do if you figure the game out. This game was ahead of its time.
The life priest was my favorite mage of and strong alot buffs and damage spells and good healing, paired of life and order unites and you destory the game. Lancelot is the most op thing in the game because hes the only chapion from the temple that can wear op items.
Good job going warrior, best warrior is Earth. Funny watching the young play this game lol
