    It is a huge job to get house plants back inside! And then you need to know where the best light levels are for each variety. I'm so glad I have a small attached greenhouse and I can regulate the supplemental lighting to keep them blooming all winter. Even so, I donate a lot of my excess plants to the master gardeners for their spring sale, and take cuttings to give away to friends.

    I have only succulents to bring in but a lot, I’m overwhelmed thinking what I need to do just now. Any easier way of doing this besides doing all of your suggestions. I think if I have only a few I can do this.

    • @MilkweedsNRosesGardener
      @MilkweedsNRosesGardener 2 месяца назад

      Eliza, if you have to tackle a bigger project or have many plants, try just scraping the top of the soil of the plants, looking for pests, and wiping the outside of the pots of your succulents-you’re taking out the risk of most of the pests that live in the soil that way. You can also spray a pet-safe pesticide that you can get from your local garden store to further reduce the risk of pest infestation. Succulents aren’t as prone to fungus gnats and other pests, simply because they prefer drier soils. So you’ll probably be fine. Try just moving a few plants in at a time, because any big job, tackled in ‘manageable bites’ is best! Good luck!

    Greeting's from Ireland, great video and lovely garden. I grew up on a small dairy farm in rural Ireland and when I was eighteen I went to work in Dublin where I met my wife. Twenty years ago we bought a small cottage in rural Ireland and my wife wanted a front garden bed. I had no interest in gardening even though my mother loved flower gardening and my father grew veg. Anyway I dug out the bed and then my wife bought some plant's and wanted me to help her plant them and so I did. When those flowers started blooming it ignited a spark in me and off I went digging and digging and planting and planting. Now we have four flower bed's and fifty seven pots in the front garden and a no dig garden veg garden and a glasshouse out the back. The funny thing is my wife has no interest in gardening but she knew if she got me started I might like It.

    I think it's Outside Pride that has a mini clover that would work in the damp area instead of grass. Of course has the seasonal little blooms and is a nitrogen fixer. Invades just a tiny bit but is on runners that are super easy to pull. I don't even mow mine. Just edge the border.

    New sub from Minnesota. We say kla-mat-is, too! I need two clematis to climb an arbor with my roses. I just bought a rhodie recently. I tried one a few years ago and it disappeared without a trace from my garden by the following Spring. Strangest thing ever! So fingers crossed this time 'round. 🤞 Love your waterfall and the cottage house on top. I've got a sizable collection of houses the same size as yours, but I've never thought of placing them in the garden. How fun! I use them for a snow village in the house. Love the name Milkweed & Roses, btw! We used to have rabbits clipping off our tulips blooms and leaving them where they fell. So maddening! Our solution was putting up a green 4 ft wire fence for a few seasons and then took it done. We haven't had trouble since. Did you have a mild winter in Iowa? Our winter in MN was probably the mildest ever recorded. We got a taste of what a southern winter must be like hitting 70F in February and loads of 50's from Nov - Apr!

    • @MilkweedsNRosesGardener
      @MilkweedsNRosesGardener 7 месяцев назад

      So good to hear from you! I like the idea of putting up a fence until the rabbits get so frustrated they learn to find food sources elsewhere. Yes, it was such a mild winter (except for a couple weeks of -20) but I see plants coming back that previous years didn’t show up in the spring. So, we’ll see. Yes, the rhododendron is looking good. Fingers crossed it all works well! Happy gardening!

    What a beautiful garden!!!! To have the pond and trees as a starting point is so fortunate. I loved borrowed landscape, but it can definitely bring challenges. Looking forward to seeing how you handle it all. My neighbor had a huge electrical box in the front yard next to my drive way. It was an eyesore for sure. I put in a section of white picket fence in front if it, and with her permission painted the box hunter green. Then I planted in front with some climbers. Problem solved!
