Remembering my interview with Curt Gowdy
In the early 1990's, I had the chance to interview the legendary Curt Gowdy. The renowned sportscaster and former "Voice of the Boston Red Sox," had called World Series and Super Bowl games, the Rose Bowl, NFL and AFL games, the Olympics, college basketball and so many other events. He had just written a book "Seasons to Remember," about sports between 1945 through 1960. We discussed the book and so much more.

How about the Oakland Athletics move to Mexico?
Просмотров 403 месяца назад
The Oakland Athletics could be without a home, after the 2024 season, when their lease expires at the Oakland Coliseum. The franchise has explored several alternatives for the next three seasons, while their new ballpark is built in Las Vegas. What about Mexico City? I explain in this edition of Baseball Discourse. #baseball #oaklandas
Jim Valvano loved baseball too
Просмотров 393 месяца назад
The late Jim Valvano was renowned for his love of basketball. He led the North Carollina St. Wolfpack to the national championship in 1983. In 1986, Jimmy V visited the broadcast booth in Richmond, when I was broadcasting games for the Richmond Braves. Here is the interview, as Jimmy V talked #baseball #minors #talkinbaseball baseball and more with Bob Black, the “Voice of the Richmond Braves,”...
Remembering my interview with U.L. Washington

Former MLB player U.L. Washington passed away on Sunday, Mar. 3, 2024. I had the chance to interview Washington in 2001, while he was a roving hitting instructor in the Minnesota Twins organization and I was broadcasting games for the New Britain Rock Cats, at the time the AA affiliate of the Twins. Here is that interview. #baseball #minors #talkinbaseball

Interviewing Ralph Garr

In 1986, while broadcasting games for the Richmond Braves, I had the chance to interview one of the great hitters in the game, Ralph Garr. After he retired from MLB, Garr became a hitting instructor with Richmond, Atlanta's AAA affiliate. Here is that interview.
Interviewing Willie Stargell
Просмотров 684 месяца назад
In 1985, while broadcasting games for the Richmond Braves, I interviewed the great Willie Stargell. He was serving as coach with the Atlanta Braves under manager Chuck Tanner. Atlanta came to town for an exhibition game. The next time Atlanta came to town, Stargell had been elected to the baseball Hall of Fame. Richmond held a news conference for Stargell so he could talk about his election, an...
When Mel Allen, 'The Voice of the Yankees,' came to town
Просмотров 1994 месяца назад
On Feb. 14, 1913 one of the greatest broadcasters, Mel Allen, was born. Allen broadcast New York Yankees games, World Series, All-Star games, Rose Bowl games, Movietone reels, etc. He was the Voice. But by 1968, his star had fallen, after the Yankees fired him in 1964. However, Allen was still renowned and in 1968, he came to speak in my. hometown of Torrington, CT. He regaled the packed house ...
Interviewing Hall of Fame baseball player Buck Leonard
Просмотров 1264 месяца назад
In 1983, while broadcasting baseball games for the Kinston Blue Jays of the Carolina League, I had the chance to interview Buck Leonard, one of the greatest baseball players. Leonard was a Negro League star on the Homestead Grays from 1934 to 1950. He was also a teammate of the great Josh Gibson. Both he and Gibson would be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972. In 1999, The Sporting ...

Social media is having a field day, on the date I am publishing this video podcast. MLB's spring training starts in 8 days and there are pictures of Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, wearing his number 8 uniform, everywhere. I had the chance to interview Berra twice, as I explain in the video. In the first video, Berra calls me by my name Dan, then Don, then Dean. But that's okay, I was interviewing Yo...
Interviewing Fred McGriff

Fred McGriff was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in July, 2023. In 1983, I was broadcasting games and driving the team bus for the Kinston Blue Jays, the single-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Toronto had obtained McGriff from the New York Yankees in a trade. There is no question the Blue Jays got the better end of that deal. Before a game in 1983, playing with Kinston, McGriff wa...
Interviewing Willie Mays

It is Willie Mays Day across the baseball world and beyond, as we recognize the great baseball Hall of Fame player, who wore uniform no. 24 with the New York Giants, San Francisco Giants and New York Mets. In 1973, as a high school intern at my hometown radio station, I had the chance to interview Willie Mays, while he was playing for the Mets. I was as nervous as can be, and the interview show...
The day I interviewed Mickey Mantle

On June 6, 1980 Mickey Mantle came to northwest Connecticut to be the guest speaker at a sports dinner. This was back in the day, when athletes past and present spoke at events such as these, in many cases to supplement their income. In other respects, it was a time when athletes and the fans were much closer than they are today. Here is my interview with this New York Yankees great. Time stamp...
Could the Oakland Athletics move to Portland?

Could the Oakland Athletics move to Portland? In this latest episode of Baseball Discourse, I discuss the movement underway in Portland to attract an MLB franchise. You can make a strong case the plan for a new stadium is further down the road in Portland than Las Vegas - where the A's franchise has received owners' approval to move - or the debacle in Oakland.

This is great interview and the length is great too....I myself, for my time period, spoke with a '98 Yankees great, ( BW), and in short spoke for 8 minutes, on '98 and memories. I have to find copy...on RUclips of the meet & greet in NYC..but, this brought memories, of that day.. and for the Yankees greats, dialouge, a once in a life time insights, one-one, into persona, on baseball and interpersonal friendliness, to team, City. Peace

They will be sorry, this owners just wants money for his coffers. Portland citizens are you going to let that happen?? I prefer a expansion team and not a carpetbagger.

  • @cuseyeti_one8three

Why would any city want a historically disloyal team like the A’s? Sure, spend a pile of tax money on a stadium. Then, 20 years from now, the team will have skipped town because they want you to buy them another stadium. The A’s have done this multiple times. Oakland’s just their latest victim. Portland or Vegas next.

did you forget owners voted 30 to 0 for the relocation of the Athletics to Las Vegas? the fake teachers union in Las Vegas has already been laughed out of court once... soon to be laughed out of court a second time... going nowhere. Ballys and GLPI are so confident the team is moving to Trop and Las Vegas BLVD that they are closing a multi billion dollar hotel on April 2nd. Portland will need to compete with Salt Lake City for expansion ... and Portland will lose that competition.

Hey Dan great review we do a podcast on the Oakland A's Relocation every Friday and we cover A's baseball during the season and your information is helpful. We know the A's are looking at Portland this week and Mr.Fisher has been questionable about if he will come out of pocket or have trouble with borrowing the $1.1 billion for his share of the construction costs. for the Vegas park If he fails in Vegas Portland is willing to pay the freight if the A's are willing to come to Portland.
