I left the Philippines with the same sentiment. I blamed the leaders on the land. I promised myself I will never return to a society that's in constant disarray and has abandoned its people. Having came here in the USA wasn't easy at first. My experience was similar to what we've seen in this video. Indeed people in the Philippines doesn't realize that life here is not a bowl of cherries. You gotta be driven in life. And for anything to materialize, you outta stay strong. There's also a lot about yourself that you have to change for the better. Thru hard work, life here turned out well for me since I came 27 years ago. I eventually landed a stable job in the health industry. I also had my own restaurant. I invested in few real estates, stock market and built a considerable retirement savings. What I observed didn't change, is how the Philippines is up to now. The political corruption and the persisting chaos. I'm not saying that it has nothing to offer but I'm wondering when will the country ever learn to take care of its people. I'm hopeful that I can see that within this lifetime. At any rate, I very much enjoyed my month long visit in 2006 despite the fact that a lot has changed. Perhaps, I can brave returning someday for good, now that I've accomplished my dreams of stability. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
