Can Backyard Flocks be Considered an Investment
For me, my backyard flock is an investment. When something takes time, effort, and money that means I’m investing in it personally. We invest in things that we care about as well as things that give us a return. That could be careers or relationships. #backyardchickens #happiness #backyardflock #smallyoutuber

My new shirt is funny, but I don’t wear it in public. I have a couple of more days off until I go back to work for the new year. I’ll be providing professional development, and I still get nervous before I begin a session. Enjoy watching the chickens. How I Transition Baby Chicks to the Outside Coop
Judy, Judy, Judy!!! Girl, stay in that coop where it's safe from predators! You are so right...the time & feed & care we invest into our flocks is significant, & part of flock management is being mindful of potential predators, as well as preventing predator attacks & casualties. Cindy, these are my favorite things on your channel...watching the variety of breeds in your flock & learning about your priorities in caring for them & seeing the enjoyment that keeping chickens brings to a person. I liked this video & can totally relate to Judy...we have about 3 hens currently that like to coop hop when the weather is good & can get over our rather tall fencing at will! It does concern us about drawing predators in & for their safety. No one is coop hopping currently...we got down to negative 1 degree this morning...our Arctic Cold has kept all the girls in the coops! Hoping we see 45°F this Friday; we need a break from below freezing! 😊
I always enjoy reading your responses to the videos. Negative 1...I couldn't! Judy has the perfect name to call out in a stern mother voice LOL! I think she got so excited to be one of the first girls to the gate that she flew over without trying. I may need to check some wings for clipping. Thank you for watching!
@CluckinAround Thanks, Cindy! ❤️ Love it! Yes, Judy is a perfect name for a stern mother scolding!!! Also, negative 1 degree, I am also like I just can't...I can't believe I live in Ohio honestly even after being here 30+ years because I love Summer heat & loathe any temperature under about 45°F...I joke my husband must knows he's so loved because I truly am a Gulf Coast Girl in the Mid-Ohio Valley & that just ain't right...seems most migrations are North to South not South to North...the South-er I go, the happier I get! 😊 But I do love him & we decided together from the beginning to stay here & no regrets about that! It's just I really could do without freezing temperatures & snow...& he's from here & doesn't like the freezing temperatures or snowstorms much either. I guess everyplace has its perks & pitfalls, though. I know there's hurricanes down there, & those storms are so serious. Truly no place is without some of its own unique & precarious weather. Have a great day, Cindy! God bless y'all!
I agree different parts of the country have different challenges.
Very interesting
Glad you liked it!
I am not a dog hater, but the people around me are terrible for letting them roam wild. That is actually my #1 threat compared to raccoons, hawks, etc.
I agree.
Great video and great topic! I absolutely love your coops and how you have them set up. We had to train our dog not to attack the chickens and now instead of attacking she will herd them in if they fly out. Your birds are beautiful and it would be tragic if you lost any one of them. You protect them very well.❤
One of my dogs is a herd dog, so he loves if I let him in the yard 🤣
@CluckinAround that is awesome, another addition to protecting your birds!🧡
here if a dog comes on to your property and kills your chickens and you report it the owner has to put his dog down with the price of feed now i'm going to give up on my chickens i love having them but the cost got out of hand take care have a great day
Feed prices have gone up! I’m sorry you are having to make that decision. People think we get “free” eggs.
Predators are always a worry for us chicken keepers aren't they, I feel bad keeping ours in all the time, although we don't have hawks, Rats can be a problem for our little ones 😟, Thankfully I have never lost any to a predator 🤞. I love sitting with our little ones in the evening too, but in the winter it gets dark by 4.00pm here in the UK! Role on Summer ☺️. Nice little video, love it ❤️
I feel the same way about keeping them in. Thank you for watching
Super cute ❤ how long do those bred live for ? I had one and she didn't live very long maybe 1 1/2 or 2 years . Her name was Cutie Pie .
Depending on breeds, any illness, and predators their life span could be 2-10 years
@CluckinAround thank you 😊
I definitely agree with you on the predators, it takes so long to get hens ready to lay eggs, it's so sad when one gets taken. So nice to be able to sit and watch the hens like you said. Nothing seems to bother them, they ease our stress just by watching them. Love your video❤
I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
😊❤🐓✌

Grouchy but soooo cute! Thanks, Cindy! Loved seeing the flock...& the sunshine coming through in your video! You're real close to 1000+ subscribers! Awesome!
Thank you! The sun has been nice today. 😊
My favorite chicken Mrs Butters looked just like this. She was my sweet girl that passed away unexpectedly a month ago. I love Faverolles ❤️
I’m so sorry for your loss, Faverolles are beautiful!
In these cold temps, I always wrap my coop with thick (9mm I think) clear plastic to keep wind out and let sun in, I also use an electric dog water bowl and give them a warm bowl of fermented grains with some add ins (oregano garlic etc) my kids call it chicken oatmeal, and they seem to love it. I mean who doesn’t like hot oatmeal on a freezing cold day, plus it saves on feed a bit. I also hang them a head of cabbage (or half at a time for less chickens) since there’s not much fresh for them right now. You can hang it in a lil veg net or just force a wire through it. I also make a lil treat despenser with sunflower seeds, bugs and a lil scratch to keep them busy when it’s too cold to leave the run. Just some ideas, also I find dry leaves to be the best deep litter bedding, it generates more heat, doesn’t smell bad like straw can, is free if you live in the woods like I do, and they seem to like it better. I just add bucketful or two as needed and turn it once in awhile. Good luck in the freeze y’all, from the backwoods of East Tennessee
Thank you for watching! 🐓
Where did all the backup dancers go
🤣
So funny! They like it!❤
Texas here too, so ready to be done with this cold mess! Hoping we don’t get much snow… We get a couple of free same day delivery offers regularly from tractor supply. So that really helps us out a lot, since we have a little car and no truck. Been dreaming of a big garden wagon I saw with sides that folded down, could be sooo useful. We put up extra tarps and even a new mini coop for some broody hens(gave up on taking the eggs away constantly while we were sick during the holidays OOPS) that had moved into a dog house. Sadly after the first freeze morning, a lot of the eggs were kicked out on the ground. I put them in incubators just in case any survive, then found more this morning. 😱
I hope it gets better for yall
Cute ❤
Thanks
@CluckinAround your welcome
Loved the, I think its a cream legbar, checking behind the mirror.
Yes, she is a Legbar. Her name is Tweet 😊
So nice ❤😊❤🎉
Thanks so much! 😊
So nice baby work and so nice home so good look❤❤😊
Thanks.
Before I had my own chickens, I did collect a lot of things with chickens on them for my kitchen, etc. But then I started moving a lot and learned to travel light so I had to give away a lot of stuff. I think chickens are a kind of regal, majestic animal that draws your attention to them and earns your respect by observing them daily. When I lived in Florida for a year, I had a lot of time to watch pelicans and it was amazing to see what graceful fliers, for such a big bird, they are how they can glide over the water, follow the line of a small wave, with almost no effort. Strange how they are not appreciated more!
They are beautiful and really interesting!
Howdy from Central Texas! It was 19 here and my water froze! Ginger was ok but she had lots of scratch and snacks and warm water this evening! It's supposed to be low 20s tonight! Y'all stay warm! I added greenhouse plastic to wrap the coop! I will publish that tomorrow but it really seems to help keep her warm!!! I love you repurposed the bags!!
It’s so cold, stay warm! 🥶
Love how you shared what you feed your chickens and how to used the bags to shelter them from cold weather, very inventive! I am going to check out chewy, as we usually go to tractor supply to get our feed, but nice not to have to lift a 50 lb bag of feed from the store, to the truck, to the coop. Great idea!❤
Thanks, it’s been a lifesaver!
Hey, Cindy. This is cool...in the time I've been watching this video I saw views on it climb from 8 to 16...that's cool...& your channel is getting closer to 1000+. Awesome. Keep up the great work. Great video. I liked seeing your barn & hearing about your feed system. We like Kalmbach, too! It is made up here in Ohio...we're Southeast Ohio...it's made in North Ohio I think up near Lake Erie maybe around Sandusky. While we don't use Kalmbach for our layer hen feed, the flock blocks we like for our layer hens are Kalmbach, & we use only Kalmbach for our meat birds & for pullets...we've reserved 6.5 skids of Kalmbach with our local mill for 2025 for the meat birds, & we will want to get our Kalmbach poultry grower order organized for the pullets we'll get this year. We get it by networking with a local mill here that's a Kalmbach dealer partly because of the quantity we're getting & because it's a local connection for us; it's a great option you shared describing how y'all order yours in from Chewy. We use Chewy pretty regularly, too. Does Chewy have distribution centers throughout the USA? We've observed when we order from Chewy we receive the order in just a day or two, & they have a distribution center about an hour from us around Cambridge, Ohio.. I've always wondered if they have distribution centers all over, though. Love your flock! They're the cutest! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Our chewy order actually comes from Ohio now that you mention it! That is good to know. I think my subscribers are growing because I have a couple of followers like yourself who are helping my channel. The other follower is mother Cluckers. My husband texted me after I posted this video and asked why I didn’t tell him to refill the feed lol! He knows those bags are heavy!
@CluckinAround I wondered if your Chewy shipped all the way from Ohio. Do you get it quickly? They are always so super fast when we order from Chewy. I order dog stuff from there regularly. Awesome! That is super your channel is growing! It's exciting to see these channels growing. You're doing a great job. Mother Cluckers is a great channel, too! Debbie in Florida does a super job on that channel, & she is very encouraging & positive. I sure enjoy your channel! Thanks for sharing videos of your flock, Cindy! I love seeing those cuties in your flock. Stay warm! We see Texas is going to get some Winter cold this week, too!
Thank you for all your support! We usually get the order within a couple of days. 🙏🏻😁
@@CluckinAround Those feed sacks are heavy! Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed on the occasions when we need to move 40 to 80 at a time. Thank goodness for my sons & husband being willing to help!
@@CluckinAround 😊 You're very welcome, Cindy! Love your channel! Great job! That's great you get your Chewy orders quickly, too. That's amazing they get the orders moved so quickly.
❤❤❤👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
He is so handsome!!!
Where can i get all this kind of chicken?
I have a lady who sells a lot of different breeds. I'm in TX. She is called SeaBreeze Hens.
I love chickens
Beautiful! Love his name too❤
Cuteee
Faverolles are big talkers. Theyll tell you how it is!
Yes, the two girls really do lol.
❤ So cute!
So pretty!
Aw the Frizzle is checking on her. Or kicking her out hehe.
I like it A LOT!
I have yet to try it out, but I wanted to tell you I saw an egg vending machine while here on my trip in Okinawa. That's kind of wild and not even the most surprising thing I've seen. When I need some, I will try the machine out and see how it goes!
That sounds like a fun thing to try out!
If a chicken gets the flu, then gets over it, I'd take that any day than something that is a persist problem like mites or worms that you may have to treat multiple times a year. They're hardy animals, but it's still a lot of work to make sure they get all the nutrition and care they need. Heat was more of a problem for me last year than anything!
I have one too. She's camped out in one of our nesting boxes.😂
🩷 i’m just glad it’s not during the heat of the summer right now
@CluckinAround me too!!
