    Finally! Once again, I'm so sorry this took so long to do. I'll share my top 12 of these artists and also explain how excited I'd be if they represented Latvia. And also, if I remember them having other Supernova songs, I'll mention my thoughts about them. 12. Emilija Bērziņa - So, this isn't my type of music at all and as I shared with you, I wasn't a huge fan of what she chose to sing on X Factor. She's very talented though, so if she did represent Latvia, a good placement is certainly possible. But, unfortunately, I wouldn't be excited if she did make it to Eurovision. 11. Elizabete Gaile - I didn't love this song and since I don't know anything else from her, I can't say I'd be too excited if she represented Latvia at Eurovision. The song isn't really bad though so maybe it'd grow on me. 10. Tautumeitas - I have to say, I'm very surprised to see this as a choice from you as this doesn't feel like your thing at all. However, if they did represent Latvia, I think a very good result is very possible. I'd be happy for you just because of that, but the song itself doesn't excite me too much since it's also not really my thing. 9. Instrumenti - This song is quite interesting and if they sent something like this to Supernova, it could do well (and maybe even do well at Eurovision), but I'm also not sure. I have to say I'm really surprised to see this featured as this doesn't feel like your kind of song at all. I would be open to them at Eurovision if they had a song like this because it could grow on me. 8. Askin - The song is good and I like it well enough but it is kind of generic so I don't think a similar song would do well at Supernova or at Eurovision, so I can't say I'd be super excited to see her at Eurovision right now. 7. Dārta Stepanova - I like her song the best of all of the songs so far, but it's still not amazing to me. I wouldn't be super excited if she made it to Eurovision with a song like this, but I also wouldn't be mad at it. It'd probably be somewhere around 12th place in my top. 6. Chris Noah - Here's where I got more excited. I quite liked this song and would be very interested in Latvia sending a song like this to Eurovision. Btw, is he an expat or does he just have a stage name? 5. Katrīna Gupalo - I liked this song a lot and would be very happy if she sent a song like this to Supernova. I like this so much more than her Supernova song from this year. I wish she'd sent it instead! But, maybe she will send a song like this next year. I'm crossing my fingers. 4. Bermundu Divsturis - I like this song a lot and think they have potential to be very fun on the Eurovision stage, but still be taken seriously (at least more than Citi Zeni were). I do remember their song from Supernova 2022 which had so much potential, but the staging was surprisingly bland. I hope that if they try again, they deliver some amazing staging (along with a song like this) so that I could be excited about them being at Eurovision if they did win Supernova. 3. Patrisha - I really really like this song! If Patrisha sent a song like this to Supernova I'd be very excited for her to make it to Eurovision. I liked her Supernova song, but it wasn't as good as this one, so I hope that if she does try again, she tries with a song like this. 2. Adriana Miglane - You know I'm a fan of this song, so while I think if she did submit a song like this to Supernova, it may not do well as it's not anything groundbreaking, and therefore would probably have issues qualifying if she did win Supernova, but if she did represent Latvia with a song like this, I'd rank her very highly in my top. I liked her Supernova song, but like with Patrisha, I like this non-Supernova song much more. 1. Markus Riva - Well, what is there to say? If he finally makes it to Eurovision, I'll be so thrilled for him! I just hope if he does make it, he has a song like Lose Control or You Make Me So Crazy or Ne Zovi. These songs are 10/10. Obviously, you knew he'd be number 1 for me as I've been a fan of him for 6 years so how could anyone be my choice? But, even if I didn't have those 6 years, he'd still be number 1 because Lose Control is one of my fave songs from this year and had it been at Supernova, it would've been my fave non-winning NF song! Can't wait to find out what your top is like!

      Wow, I’m surprised Elizabete Gaile’s song was one of your least favourite ones. I remember thinking this would be one of your favourites. I’m not sure why, but I had that feeling. As for Tautumeitas, I used to be obsessed with the song I chose for this video, and I still like it a lot. Plus, when I made this video, I tried not only to pick singers I personally love but also thought about who, in my opinion, has the potential to do well in Eurovision. Yeah, Visa par Daudz by Instrumenti doesn’t sound like my kind of song either, but I liked it a lot when it was released, and I still do. It’s the kind of song that needs a few listens, though. I agree with you, Parylove by Askin is kind of generic and therefore wouldn’t be the best choice for Eurovision, but you know I often love songs like that. So even though I wouldn’t send it to Eurovision, I think they do have potential to make something more suitable for the big stage. No, Chris Noah is not an expat - that’s his stage name. His real name is Krists Indrišonoks. Btw, he wrote the song Stay (Lithuania’s entry for Eurovision 2023). Not sure how Monika got to know about him, but he said she approached him on Instagram and said she wanted to write a song together, without mentioning anything about Eurovision. Also, he was the opening act for Dons’ concert (the one I attended this August), and he was Dons’ backing vocalist in Eurovision, and you could see him with Dons in the green room. I had a feeling you’d like Katrīna Gupalo’s song a lot! I like it a lot too! I agree this song might have had even more success than The Cat’s Song, but I love The Cat’s Song as well. Anyways, she was asked on the radio if she would come back next year, and she said if she feels she has a good song for Eurovision, she will. Supernova 2022 was super bland, and though Bermundu Divstūris’ song was one of my faves from that year, it was one of theirs worst songs ever. Those lyrics were super annoying. I really hope if they come back, they return with their best song at that moment, and it’s in Latvian. I also agree with you that Pilsēta no Lauskām (Patrisha’s song) is much better than Hush (her song for Supernova in 2023). I will be very disappointed if she comes back to Supernova with a weaker song after having this one. And the same with Adriana Miglāne, of course. Yeah, I’m not surprised at all Markus Riva is still your favourite artist to represent Latvia. But wow, I didn’t know Lose Control would be your favourite non-winning NF song this year. Though, I think you did mention once that it might be. Well, I’m very excited to see where it ranks in your top 50/60 songs of the year video! So, as for my personal top, there are two ways to look at it: 1) who I would love to see the most, and 2) who I think has the most potential to do well in Eurovision. So, I’ll share two lists. First one - who I personally want to see the most (based on my music taste and personal favourites): 12: Instrumenti 11: Elizabete Gaile 10: Bermundu Divstūris 09: Dārta Stepanova 08: Tautumeitas 07: Patrisha 06: Askin 05: Adriana Miglāne 04: Emīlija Bērziņa 03: Chris Noah 02: Katrīna Gupalo 01: Markus Riva Second one - who I think has the most potential to do well in Eurovision (and it’s not just based on the songs I selected for this video, but in general - uniqueness, charisma, voice, and other factors I feel are important for Eurovision): 12: Adriana Miglāne 11: Askin 10: Instrumenti 09: Elizabete Gaile 08: Dārta Stepanova 07: Markus Riva 06: Patrisha 05: Bermundu Divstūris 04: Katrīna Gupalo 03: Emīlija Bērziņa 02: Chris Noah 01: Tautumeitas

    Here are my fave moments: "It's definitely better to judge." - I feel her since I have insecurities and don't really like being judged. "I love Ronela's song too." - Aww, that's great! I know that line had to make you really smile. "Even when they're making fun of me, I find them so cute. As long as we're all having fun, fine." - Great attitude. I don't think I'd be able to say that. "I love Eurovision. I always follow the finals, semifinals." - Well, great! Maybe she doesn't always do it but at least she does sometimes. I love her interactions with Andy from Eurovoxx! "Accepting your weakness is already being strong." - Great line and honestly, that really makes sense. "I think you are stylish, Andy, and I think most people who are stylish are the ones who are up here." *points to her head* - I never really thought about someone being stylish in that context but that's a good sentiment. What she said about Loreen was very lovely and I'm sure that really meant a lot to you, since you're such a huge Loreen fan. That's funny that she removed the shoes because she was so sure she wouldn't win FiK since they were killing her feet so much. I love when she was talking to ok, I can't remember his name but I have watched a few of his videos, I think he's called The Balkan Guy, and anyway, he asked her what her fave reaction to her song was and she said, "Yours." - Aww, do you know how much I'd freak out if I'd react to a contestant's song and then get to interview them and they told me my reaction was their fave? "Remember you're all Titans and I love you. Mwah!" "What's the worst than can happen? They can hate me forever. I can take that." - Looooove that perspective on the risk she took with revamping her song in English.

      I am glad you liked the video as there were so many moments you found cute and phrases that made perfect sense to you, like the one about accepting your weaknesses and how that makes you strong. I love that one! And yes, her attitude on things like hate or fans making fun of her is just so perfect. It shows how humble and intelligent she is. And yes, when I heard that she is a huge fan of Loreen and really liked Sekret, I started liking her even more! It’s such a great feeling when you know that the artist you are rooting for supports other artists you like a lot. Yes, he is called The Balkan Guy. He appeared the most in this video, and honestly, his interactions with Besa were the best ones (at least, in my opinion). Omg, I would also freak out if someone said my reaction to their song was their favourite one. But The Balkan Guy’s reaction was really great, and he totally deserved those words from her. Btw, he also saw this video (on Besa’s Insta) and commented that he thinks Besa is by far the sweetest artist in this year’s Eurovision. Aww, that’s so cool that I’m not the only one who thinks like that.

    So, Finland and San Marino traded places. I guess it's because of staging, right, since San Marino's looks really good. Portugal went up a little for you; we now both have them 31st. You said you thought maybe I liked it more than you did in your comment on my top 37, but now I guess we feel similarly about their song. Greece went back up! I know you said you hadn't been playing the music video but do you think you will now (I mean, until the performance is out)? Sweden down to 18th and Lithuania down to 19th kinda has me bummed (I just hope they don't fall out of your top 20). Well, I'm just glad that never happened last year with The Busker (although, I do think they fell to 13th [*edit] in your top 37 after rehearsals but I know they went back up a couple places after you saw their full performance). Surprised to see Poland down to 16th. Wow, I'm really surprised to see Cyprus down to 13th. And Ireland is in 5th place - I was like, "See, I knew it!" when I'd originally messaged you about the SF 1 rehearsals. But you told me they'd only be around 15th so in the end I was quite floored to see this 10 places higher than expected. Here is my ranking (based only on rehearsal clips): 36. France (I don't get this staging at all.) 35. Serbia 34. Estonia 33. Iceland 32. Moldova 31. Portugal 30. Denmark 29. Luxembourg 28. Ireland 27. Slovenia 26. Belgium 25. Albania 24. Norway 23. Finland 22. Germany (This is a massive improvement from the NF but I still felt 21 other clips were stronger.) 21. Armenia 20. Latvia 19. Azerbaijan 18. Greece 17. Czechia 16. Ukraine 15. Spain (I'm kind of glad the dancers are more clothed as their previous outfits were more distracting and to me, the song is really about the singer.) 14. Netherlands 13. Italy (I like her outfit and it feels like a huge improvement over the SR performance.) 12. Poland 11. San Marino 10. Cyprus 9. Australia 8. Austria 7. Lithuania 6. Croatia 5. Malta 4. Switzerland 3. UK (I absolutely LOVE this staging, and if the vocals were better, it would've been 2nd. Seriously, Olly, what's with the vocals? He's a seasoned performer so this shouldn't be an issue for him.) 2. Sweden (I already loved the Melfest staging as you know, but this is even better. I can't wait to see this on Tuesday! At least people should stop talking about how it looks like Loreen's staging on its side or whatever, now. Btw, this is the first time my winner has been an AQ so it's kind of nice that for ONCE I know for sure my winner will be in the final.) 1. Georgia

    • @ksesc
      @ksesc Месяц назад

      No, I didn’t play Greece’s music video in the time between the rehearsals and the live shows, but I did play the live performance few times after Eurovision was over. Yeah, I remember I said back then that Ireland would not go higher than the top 15 for me, despite how impressive the rehearsal clip was. I mean, I also couldn’t imagine it would ever be in my top 5. I suppose you wouldn’t rank France last now based on the staging and performance, right? I think you said that after seeing the full thing, it grew on you. And do you still feel like Georgia gave the best staging and performance?

  • @ESCSteph
    @ESCSteph 5 месяцев назад

    So, looks like you like the Netherlands less than you used to. Is it because the staging looks more like joke-act staging than expected? Czechia went up, as expected. She really did slay! I would still be surprised to see her qualify, but it doesn't seem impossible anymore. At first I was surprised to see Malta and Latvia in 7th and 6th and then I remembered that you said your entire top 7 was in this SF and since they were 7th and 6th in your last top, it made sense. My top 16: 15. Estonia (Idk, it seems even worse than the already messy Eesti Laul performance and now I'm bitter again that Ollie lost because if Ollie was here, he would've had similar staging that he had at Eesti Laul, but his was amazing so if he was in this SF, I'd have ranked Estonia in 1st place so arghhhhhhhh.) 14. Denmark (It's too much like the DMGP staging and unfortunately, I'm really getting tired of it.) 13. Belgium (It reminds me of the music video with all the microphones but I wasn't crazy about that tbh.) 12. Albania (I actually like her outfit but it's not quite right for the performance.) 11. Norway 10. Armenia 9. Latvia (It's very pretty! I don't think this is going to have an Aija-like rise, since Aija was my 2nd biggest grower last year, but it is lovely and I can't wait to see the whole thing.) 8. Greece 7. Czechia (She slayed. Like I said, I think she does have a chance to qualify. If she gets in the final over Malta I'm going to be really sad, though.) 6. Netherlands (Kind of messy but I do like the end where he talks to his parents - this makes me emotional.) 5. San Marino (Staging could be iconic.) 4. Austria 3. Malta (Slay slay slay! Sarah did not come to play and ahhhh this needs to qualify. Malta was already horribly robbed last year - this can't happen in back-to-back years.) 2. Switzerland (Love the spinning table!) 1. Georgia (OMG this clip looks so good. I love this! I feel the same way about this clip that I did with Israel last year- and if you remember, Israel had my fave clip of all 37 - but actually, I like it even more because it's not just a dance break since she's singing.) This SF is so good. I'm not prepared to say it's better than last year's SF 1 - because I still maintain that that one was the strongest ever SF, but it's full of great looking performances and there are going to be so many robberies taking place 😭

    • @ksesc
      @ksesc 5 месяцев назад

      Actually, I expected something more fun from the Netherlands' staging. In the clip, it looked too empty for such a fun song. However, the ending is very emotional, and I appreciate that there is a deeper message behind this song. Unfortunately, I am still not a fan of the rest of the song, and I didn’t see anything impressive staging-wise that would make me like the song more, but that can change tomorrow, of course. I also would have preferred Ollie so much more! I am with you on how messy this performance looks, and well, even objectively looking at this whole package, I don’t think they deserve to qualify in such a strong semi-final. But, at the same time, we know how much locals often love songs like this. Denmark looks fine to me. Their national final performance worked very well, so I am not mad that they have kept a similar concept. I saw Besa’s new outfit, and I am very pleased! I will share it with you on Insta soon, but perhaps you have seen it yourself already somewhere. Glad you think Latvia’s rehearsal clip looks pretty, because most fans are criticizing it a lot. Yes, I agree Czechia might qualify actually. Do I need that to happen? No. But I won’t be mad if that happens as long as it doesn’t take away a spot from Albania, Latvia, or Malta. I must admit, Megara together with their team have indeed done a good job on the staging. Actually, we agree on who had the best rehearsals as my top 3 would be the same! Like you said, this is such a strong semi-final, which must feel amazing, but to me it doesn’t for well-known reasons. But I am trying to stay hopeful!

    Here are my thoughts on your top 15 after the rehearsals: I can't say I'm surprised to see Serbia in 12th here but I thought she might be even lower. Idk, it's just such a forgettable song and performance for me. I will be flabbergasted if this qualifies from a televote only SF (especially since all the neighbors are going to be giving their points to Croatia and maybe some to Slovenia and then there are fan faves like Lithuania and Ukraine). I was very surprised to see Ireland 6th (as you know) since you said you don't rank performances based off only the rehearsal clip (so that's why I asked you if you actually did in this case). I mean, I get that the clip is interesting, but what if the rest of the staging isn't that great? (That's why I can't do a proper updated ranking based off clips only since we're missing 5/6 of each of the songs.) Well, you know I'll be dying to find out your reaction when you see the full performance. And then Ukraine in 1st place also had me stunned. Again, I'll be interested to see if you like the entire performance this much. My top 15 (based only on the rehearsal clips): 15. Serbia 14. Iceland (Alesia Michelle pointed out that fringe belt that hangs right where her, ahem, you know...girl parts are and that she needed to get rid of it and now I can't unsee it so that kind of ruins the outfit for me. Also, this staging has never been that strong for me.) 13. Moldova (Violin playing kept it out of 15th place.) 12. Portugal 11. Luxembourg (Not a fan of the pigtails; staging isn't really doing anything for me.) 10. Ireland (I can tolerate this song more in this clip. It does seem artistic. I'll get back to you if I actually dislike it less when I see the full performance.) 9. Slovenia 8. Finland (Eurovision is supposed to be a family show so I'm confused as to why he is wearing even smaller underwear than at UMK so that we see his hairy bum - I think if this does qualify this is getting basically no jury points.) 7. Azerbaijan 6. Ukraine (it's nice but I need to see the whole thing to really decide if I like this more than I used to.) 5. Poland (I liked the staging a lot.) 4. Cyprus 3. Australia 2. Lithuania (This is my fave part of his staging from the NF.) 1. Croatia (Baby Lasagna kept what worked from Dora and it just looks even better here.)

      @ksesc 5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, Serbia indeed didn’t impress that much this time with their rehearsal clip, but I still like the song more than a couple of the others, so that’s why it's still in 12th place. I think they have chances to qualify, but they are not as safe qualifiers as they were before the rehearsals anymore. Well, now I think it’s pretty clear that the rest of the staging for Ireland is really that great, as people are going crazy over what they saw yesterday, but yeah, let’s see how I feel after seeing the full thing. Oh, that’s cool you watch Alesia’s videos! Yes, I do remember she doesn’t like that belt, but, just like you, I also didn’t even notice there is a belt, and I can’t say even now that I would be too bothered about it. I expected so much more from Moldova staging-wise. Hopefully, the full performance is going to be better. Oh yes, I am with you on Tali’s pigtails! I am also not a fan of such a hairstyle, and I preferred her look in the national selection way more. I feel like some conservatives will go wild tonight (I mean, Ireland, UK, and then Finland) 😅 But yeah, it would have been better to not have such small underwear, but I am sure they still are safe and will qualify. But things will be much worse in the final. Speaking of Azerbaijan, I have mixed feelings. In pictures, the staging looked great, but in action, I felt the song has lost its ethnicity and magic that I felt every time when I listened to the showcase performance… I was thinking Azerbaijan would be my winner of this semi, but idk. Let’s see how I feel about the full performance tonight. I always like ambitious stagings, but Poland’s feels like they have done too much, plus, she didn’t sound that well. Idk. We'll see.

    So here you go- my final update before the show. I can't believe Eurovision is starting in just a few days! 😱 And to all the Titans - we need to get our queen Besa into the final, so let's vote for Albania on May 9th! 🇦🇱❤ Also, those who have been following my channel closely might be shocked that Ireland is now in my top 5. Sorry, y'all, but I've become obsessed with this song. Seeing their rehearsal has gotten me so excited, and I've played the Doomsday Blue music video so many times these last couple of days. I'm not sure how long this obsession will last, but it's happening. That's how I'm feeling right now. Probably my biggest grower ever.

    I can't recall the last time when seeing the rehearsal clips changed my mind so much. However, overall, it's mostly about UKRAINE AND IRELAND! Ukraine's staging looks a hundred times better than in Vidbir, and I got goosebumps. Now I can't stop listening to the song, so that's why it has risen so high for me. Until the last moment, I wasn't sure if I should make such a drastic change in my top, but I just feel that Ukraine is my new winner of this semi. As for Ireland, well, the staging makes it look like a masterpiece. It might not be the song I would listen to repeatedly, but I will definitely play that performance a lot because it's ART!

    Yay, ideal Eurovision! I had been looking forward to this. And there were definitely a few choices and rankings that surprised me. Here's what I thought: 36. 11:11 - Did you just go with this since you didn't know any other UVPSM songs (I mean, besides probably Pazza)? I'm guessing you didn't follow this NF, right? 35. Grito - What happened to Filipa - You Can't Hide? I remember sharing with you the songs I liked the best from FdC and you said you liked that one. Since you're not a fan of Grito at all, I did not expect it to be your choice. 30. Fighter - I didn't think this would be your choice for Luxembourg. I remember you telling me you preferred CHAiLD - Hold On, but I guess you probably haven't listened to that much but have listened to Fighter a lot more so it grew on you more. 29. Luna Park - Wow, I did not expect you to go with this song. I kind of thought you were learning toward Bojana x David - No No No. Luna Park just doesn't really seem like a song that would be your winner of an NF (well, especially since it's a rock song). I like this song a lot more than the one that won, but I think you probably knew that already. 28. Runaway - Alright, I had no idea what you'd pick for Moldova. I didn't think it'd be 'In the Middle' but I wasn't sure if there was any song you enjoyed that much to include it in this video. Anyway, Runaway is a much better song than 'In the Middle' and would've been a much better choice for Eurovision. 21. Out of My Mind - Yay! So glad this is still your winner for Czechia as it is still mine as well! 18. Liar - I was a little surprised to see this so low in this top. Goes to show how much you loved a lot of songs that didn't win their NF's. 17. Wild West - What?? My mouth fell open seeing this. I wasn't under the impression you cared about this song at all, and since I know how much Scared of Heights grew on you, I did not expect that there could be any other song from Iceland you'd like more than it. 11. Before the Party's Over - This being outside the top 10 of this video was very surprising to me! I guess I'll echo what I said about Liar. 10. Ozunla apar - Wait!! This song is higher than BtPO in this top?? But this song was 10th in your last update and BtPO was 4th. Wow, do you like this song this much or has BtPO fallen a lot in your actual ESC top? 8. Fomo - I thought this might be higher in this top. 7. Caliente - So, had I not seen your top 25 NF songs video, I would've expected this song to be top 7 but since it was a little lower than expected there, I didn't think it'd get in the top 10 here. 2. Titan & 1. It's Not Easy to Write a Love Song - Honestly, I wasn't surprised to see these 2nd and 1st (and I mean, in this order). You know, there's a bit of weird symmetry going on here. Last year, at this time for my ideal top 37 I had: Finland 3rd (Robin - non-winner), Malta 2nd (The Busker - winner and my winner of the actual contest), and Sweden 1st (M&M - non-winner). And now your top 3 is Finland (non-winner), Albania (winner and your winner of the actual contest), and Sweden (non-winner). My actual winner got stuck going 2nd; your actual winner is stuck going 2nd. I have a feeling that eventually you will prefer Titan to It's Not Easy to Write a Love Song the way I eventually preferred Dance over Air (even though I was sure that wouldn't happen). Fingers crossed for a much better result for Besa, though! I haven't decided on my ideal ESC so I'll write another comment with that top.

      So, as for San Marino’s national selection, I did check out some songs, but not all of them. Perhaps if I had, I might have picked a different song, but I highly doubt there was anything much better. The one I considered the most was Governo del cuore. I didn’t like Filipa’s You Can't Hide that much live. I was like, "whatever". It would have been my 35th place anyway in this video. Fighter grew on me once I saw it performed live in their national selection. I instantly knew it was my new favourite. CHAiLD’s Hold On live didn’t impress me in any way, and it wasn’t like I liked that song a lot in the first place anyway. You know I wasn’t impressed by the Serbian national selection, but I really liked the live performance of Luna Park, despite the fact that it’s a rock song. It's an alright rock song for me, so yeah. There was a time when I listened to Wild West a lot. I didn’t care about it at all on the first listen, but then I got kind of obsessed. Ozunla apar kept growing on me very rapidly at that time. Yes, there is indeed an interesting symmetry going on. It’s cool you noticed it because I didn’t. Now that Eurovision has ended, this symmetry has become even stronger since Albania didn’t qualify, which was the case with Malta last year. Speaking of your prediction that I would eventually prefer Titan to It’s Not Easy To Write A Love Song, I’m honestly not sure about that. If you asked me if I know which will be my favourite song of the year, I really don’t know the answer yet. This is not like last year, where I knew Tattoo would 100% be the best song of 2023 already in spring. So yeah, we’ll see in December. I will take the yearly recap into consideration to make that decision.

    I am so sorry I am just commenting on this now. Where does time go? Also, I actually thought I had commented on it, but that was me mixing it up with your other updated top 37. I really didn't expect you to do another updated top. Wonder if you will also do one after the rehearsals and after the show. Anyway, here are my thoughts on notable changes: 29. Greece - Continuing to fall, I see. I know you've never been a big fan of it, of course. By the time we get to Eurovision, you're going to end up preferring last year's entry, after all lol. (Well, maybe not, but you never know.) 22. Ireland - I never expected this song to nearly be in your top 20. You know I'm really really not a fan of it so it growing on you so much really does perplex me. Usually, we feel the same about our bottom placed songs but not this year (since San Marino is your bottom placed song and they're in my top 20). 4. Belgium - I was surprised to see this fall from the 2nd spot. Is it growing off you or did Austria and Georgia just grow on you that much more? 3. Georgia - And speaking of Georgia, wow. So, when you said I'd be happy with one of your changes, I thought it was going to be that Croatia or Sweden had gotten into your top 10 but it ended up being that Georgia grew on you so much! Well, of course I would've preferred that Sweden or Croatia had grown on you this much, but I'll take Georgia being in your top 5 so that I'm not alone with ranking them so high. Random thought, but this seems to be the most we've disagreed on winners. In 2015 we each had each other's winners in our top 5's (maybe even top 2's), in 2016 I think we both had them in our top 15's, in 2017 your winner was in my top 5, in 2018 your winner was my 2nd place, in 2019 my winner was in your top 5, in 2020 your winner was in my top 10, in 2022 we had each other's winners in our top 5's, and last year they ended up right around 10th for both of us - so only 2021 had a situation where we disagreed pretty much but even then I still ended up putting Cyprus in my top 15 and you had Lithuania in your top 20. Bit of a weird year that we disagree as much as we have. But, at least we still do like many of the same songs and at least we don't dislike any of the songs the other ranked very highly (i.e. top 5).

    • @ksesc
      @ksesc Месяц назад

      Lol, that’s funny you thought I could ever prefer last year’s Greece entry over this year’s. Well, obviously, that’s not the case. As you know, Zari grew on me after the rehearsals and Eurovision. Live, the song sounded much more dynamic, and the chorus didn’t feel as annoying as it did in the studio version. Belgium’s song was one of those that I liked a lot instantly, but it soon started to grow off me. Now it’s 10th for me. I still like it, but I’m not listening to it anymore. But yeah, another reason it dropped for me was that Georgia grew on me so much. Yeah, this year we do quite disagree on each other’s winners. You still haven’t published your updated top 37, but I guess the placement for Albania hasn’t really changed much for you. Fingers crossed next year is different and we have another 2022 situation, where we both have each other’s winner in the top 5…or maybe the same winner finally 😉

    Ahhh, I am so sorry this took me 9 days to comment on this video! What even is time anymore?? 🙁Anyway, there were a few changes, so this video ended up surprising me quite a bit. Here are my thoughts on all the placements that surprised me (and Czechia's new ranking): 35. Portugal - I see it fell a few places since the last video. I'm not too surprised - I guess this means that you're really really not a fan. 34. Czechia - I was a little surprised it moved up 2 places. I thought the revamp was ok but I guess I didn't think it added that much to it so I predicted you'd still have it last. Maybe I just need to play it a few more times. 12. UK - I was surprised to see this 12th when I first watched this video. I'm not so much anymore, but I was back then. This is when I knew you definitely preferred 'I Wrote a Song' to 'Dizzy.' 9. Azerbaijan - Wow, what a jump! I was not expecting this at all. Like, maybe I could've seen them in your top 15 but that was it. I bet you've been listening a lot, am I right? Well, at least they've kind of returned to form after not giving us the quality we normally like the last 2 years. 8. Iceland - Wow, I was also extremely shocked by how much this song jumped. I knew you liked it, but this much? Nope. Did not expect top 10 for one second. Could this be your fave entry from Iceland, ever? I kind of expected your top 3 to change since you said you love them all nearly equally, btw.

      Yeah, I listened to Azerbaijan’s song a lot in March and April. As you might remember, it made the top 5 in my spring recap. Could Scared of Heights be my favourite entry from Iceland ever? It’s definitely my favourite one since 2019. Actually, I’m not sure whether I prefer 2024 or 2019. But my favourite is probably Paper (2017). But I don’t feel like I have one clear favourite entry from Iceland, to be honest.

    Here's how I did: I guessed right with every single country except Slovenia. I already said my thoughts about that in response to your 'pinned' comment (I know it's not actually pinned but whatever, you know what I mean) so I won't repeat myself to avoid being boring. Besides those entries, here's what else I thought when making my guesses: Albania, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine were all very easy for me to guess which entry you'd prefer. Ireland was more challenging for me. I went with 2024 because I knew it had been growing on you and were never the biggest fan of them last year. A couple of weeks ago, I might've said 2023 or been extremely conflicted about it, though. I had a hard time with Serbia, but I must say I'm happy to see you went with last year's as that was my guess and yeah, you know I'm really not a fan of them this year. UK was a little tricky for me. A couple of weeks ago I would've been quite torn and might've even said 2024 for my guess, but after seeing your last top 37 it was quite obvious that you prefer last year's entry to this one, so in the end, it wasn't that difficult to choose.

    • @ksesc
      @ksesc Месяц назад

      That’s impressive that you made just one mistake and it was very easy for you to guess the majority of countries! And I’m sure you would have guessed that I would now choose Ukraine 2024 over 2023 if I made that video now. When I first heard this year’s Iceland entry, I didn’t expect I would ever prefer it over their 2023 entry, but here we are. But yeah, you’re right that I was never the biggest fan of Power anyways. As for the UK, I still prefer 2023, btw. Even though Olly did a better job with the staging, it didn’t make me listen to the song more, unfortunately. I haven’t listened to it at all this summer.

    *How hard was the decision making?* Very easy: Albania Armenia Australia Austria Azerbaijan Croatia Denmark Estonia Finland France Georgia Lithuania Norway Portugal San Marino Spain Sweden Switzerland Easy: Belgium Cyprus Czechia Greece Iceland Latvia Malta Moldova Netherlands Poland United Kingdom Hard: Germany Ireland Italy Slovenia Very hard: Serbia Ukraine

      @ESCSteph 6 месяцев назад

      Malta was easy?? 😭I was hoping it was at least a little tough for you to make that decision. Also, I'm surprised it was hard for you to decide for Germany and Italy and that it was very hard for you with Ukraine. I don't remember you being much of a fan of Germany in the end last year and though I know you think Italy is very overrated last year, I remember you not being a fan of Italy last year, like even more. And I thought you liked Ukraine a lot last year and you were a little meh on them this year. I had Serbia in the 'very hard' category for you for sure, but also Slovenia so I'm a tiny bit surprised it wasn't as difficult for you as I thought. I knew Slovenia grew on you last year and that they've been slowly growing off you this year so that's why I figured it'd be a very difficult choice for you. I had Moldova in the 'very easy' category for you. I thought that was very obvious so I'm a bit surprised to see them only in the 'easy' category.

      @@ESCSteph Last year’s entry from Italy has actually grown on me. I never updated my top for 2023 after the show, but if I had, you would have seen that I would have ranked it higher than ever before. However, I still prefer La Noia. The live performance was really good. I am sure it’s more than obvious that for Ukraine, I would now pick this year’s entry (thus giving one more point to 2024). Even back in March, this wasn’t an easy decision. I never felt that Teresa & Maria was a meh entry, but their NF performance just didn’t work as well as their performance in Eurovision. As for Moldova, since In The Middle has grown on me, I would now move Moldova to the “hard” category, actually. However, I still think I would pick the 2023 entry.

    Sorry this took me to so long to comment. I've been busier than ever lately. But, anyway, here are my thoughts on the last 3 songs (and any notable changes): 31. Armenia - Of course, I knew you weren't really a big fan of this, but I did think it would be a little bit higher. I predicted 27th. We've talked about how it's pretty repetitive so I haven't been a fan of it either, as you know. I'm still not a big fan. It wears thin pretty quickly, but I do like the ethnic sounds and it's unique from the other entries. 30. Netherlands - Happy to see this growing on you! 18. Azerbaijan - I predicted 13th so I'm glad I was only 5 away. I had a no idea what you thought about it when I made my prediction. But, I figured you'd enjoy it quite a bit. I like it too as you know and actually feel very similarly to it that you do. 11. Georgia - I did really well here because I predicted 10th. I knew it had grown on your since the first listen and when you said you thought it could've even been top 5 at one point (I misunderstood and thought you meant after it started growing on you rather than how you thought you'd feel about it before it came out). So, you know I really love this - about time Georgia finally sent something radio friendly! I really hope they qualify. 7. Malta - I guess it grew on you a little bit more with the revamp. I mean, I know you liked it but you liked it enough to move it up a place. 3. Austria - Wow! 3rd? I was going to comment that we still had each other's winners in the same placements but that was before I saw you had Austria 3rd. I know you said you feel very similarly about your top 3 but I still thought this would stay your winner. 1. Albania - I know how much you loved this song initially and that you love the revamp, but I still thought the best that she'd do for now would be 2nd place. I guess you really, truly love this song! And so that's all the songs for Eurovision 2024. It ended up being a good group of songs, but I'm definitely not from the camp that thinks this is the most amazing year ever. I equate it pretty similarly to last year (and of course last year has our favorite Eurovision songs of all time so that year will always be so special to us).

    • @ksesc
      @ksesc 6 месяцев назад

      My favourite entry from Georgia by far is still Warrior, but Firefighter is definitely my second favourite. Fingers crossed they qualify because not every year they will be able to get such a talented singer and song like this one. Malta moved up just because the UK moved down. Enough time has passed, and unfortunately, I haven’t found myself listening to Dizzy that much, but I hope the live performance will renew my interest in the song. This year’s ESC is quite... interesting. I guess we both knew it’s not going to be easy after you got Dance and me -Tattoo last year. None of the songs this year are even close to Tattoo for me. But yeah, this is definitely not the best ESC we have ever experienced. But let’s see how we will feel in May. Let’s not forget it’s Sweden hosting, and I am sure the stage will be amazing, as well as the performances on it.

    So, here's my thoughts on the new songs and a certain song's movement in your top: 28. Portugal - Yeah, I don't get this either. That person who commented about your taste, lol, whatever dude, not everyone thinks ballads that don't have much of a structure to be good so yeah, I didn't care for it, either. I ranked it 28th, too. I predicted 22nd for you, because I didn't think you'd love it, but I thought you'd like it a little more than me and actually that you'd feel very similarly about it as you do Serbia. 27. Ireland - It's above Finland and the Netherlands now? Say it isn't so! I didn't think this video did anything for me. I actually found the song even more confusing and disjointed after watching it. 11. Sweden - I predicted 6th. The reason I did is because you had said your top 3 Melfest songs would all be your winner here. I guessed that if Liamoo had won, he would've been 4th, so I went with 6th for M&M. I actually have Austria 11th in my top now so we have each other's winners in the same places in our tops. As for where Sweden is now in my top? You guessed 2nd or 3rd. Well. It is my new winner. I made that decision on Monday or Tuesday that if M&M won, they'd be my 1st place.

      Serbia’s song is way more memorable for me than Portugal’s. I am not sure about Portugal’s chances to qualify. I have seen many loving this song, but odds suggest that it will not do that well. However, they really got saved by the running order, so for now, I am leaning towards them qualifying for the final. Ireland has grown on me. I still think it’s a catastrophic song, but at the same time, it has something addictive about it, and whenever I play it, I don’t feel like I want to skip. For that reason, and because I find it interesting, I have it as high as it is.

  • @ESCSteph

    Here were my predictions and thoughts on the 2 newest songs along with a quick thought about 2 other songs: So, I see you now have the Netherlands higher than Finland, which is what I thought would be the case originally. It just came across to me as a song you'd enjoy more. 19. Greece: It's so messy! It really could use someone to come in and clean it up. The first time I listened to it, I didn't know if I loved it or hated it. The second time I felt a little more sure of it and decided I liked it, but Idk if it will grow on me or not since I don't love it. I have it 13th currently. I predicted this to be 8th for you. I honestly had no idea if you'd like it or not since it's an ethno-bop. In the end, I guessed you'd like it - I admit, I let the ranking on My Eurovision Scoreboard influence me. Do you think it has a chance to grow on you? 11. Australia: I predicted 13th btw (would've predicted 12th if not for thinking Greece would be 8th). I'm so glad you like this quite a bit! We've already talked about how we don't understand why it's so disliked. It's such a bop. Like, ok, it's not ground-breaking but does every song need to be? Sometimes, being radio friendly is good enough. (At least, it is to me.) Anyway, will it surprise you that I currently have this 3rd? I really loved it initially. I'm not sure it will stay that high but I just think it's such a bop and so catchy plus I love the digeridoo!

    • @ksesc
      @ksesc 6 месяцев назад

      I sincerely don’t understand why so many people love Greece’s song so much, and some even say it’s the winner. I mean, I have nothing against ethno-bops, and I really appreciate that it sounds very Greek, but as you said, it’s very messy, and I am sure they could make it more melodic without losing its Greek heritage. Well, it still hasn’t grown on me, but I stay hopeful for the live performance. I really hope Electric Fields prove everyone wrong and qualify for the final. In semi 1, that shouldn’t be a huge problem, and they got a quite good spot in the running order as well. Plus, they are great performers and will definitely stand out, even if people will not be that invested in the song itself.

  • @ESCSteph
    @ESCSteph 7 месяцев назад

    And now, my thoughts on your top 12 and where I think they'll finish in the final (I won't share my ranking since I will be posting my video tomorrow): 12. Back to My Roots - Knew this would be your 12th place. It never would've made the final any other year. However, I'm not positive it will finish 12th. It could be a surprising 9th place finish since it doesn't have any competition and I imagine older people will vote for it. 11. Give My Heart a Break - I didn't think this would be 11th place for you (I expected Annika to be here). This is a much weaker song than Cazzi's 2022 entry so I expect her to finish 11th or 12th. 10. Que sera - Not too surprised this is 10th. I think in 2022 you had them 7th or 8th and that was a much stronger song. Even though this is generic, the staging is good and I expect this to get a top 5 finish. 9. Awful Liar - I wondered if you'd have this a little higher than 9th. Seeing as it's the only true ballad, it could get a top 6 finish, but it's also kind of forgettable so I wouldn't be surprised if it finishes 10th or lower. 8. Happy That You Found Me - I was really hoping you'd have this higher than Annika. Anyway, I hope he is making some changes to the performance. I think he could get top 5 but might also finish 8th or so. 7. Heroes are Calling - Like with Danny's song I hoped you'd have this higher than Annika. I don't think they're getting a top 3 finish this year since this is a pretty strong final and this isn't as strong of a song as last year's. 6. Light - Genuinely shocked to see this so high. I'm not much of a fan of this tbh and didn't think you would be either since it's very repetitive and the staging isn't very memorable. I expect this to finish 11th or 12th. 5. Unforgettable - I hoped you'd have this a little higher. Well, this is the front-runner to win. Without a song like Tattoo standing in its way, its chances do look pretty good. I expect this to do well with the juries thanks to the slick staging and I also expect it to get 12s from the 3-9, 10-15, 16-29, and 30-44 year old groups. I'm not sure about the older groups, though. 4. Dragon - Well, I was hoping you'd at least have Unforgettable above this one. I think this is going to do worse than in 2022 because I don't think it'll do as well with the juries and it'll probably do as well with the televoters. 3. When I'm Gone - I expected top 3 for this song for you. I think it has a good shot at top 3 as it is very catchy and the staging is pretty cool. 2. Effortless - I expected this to be your 2nd place. People can criticize Unforgettable all they want for not being as strong when you don't see their slick staging, but I honestly think this song is the same - I found it less impactful during the reprise and when I just listened to it. Anyway, I just pointed that out since people are being unfair toward Unforgettable but this one doesn't seem to get talked about that much. I think this has a shot at a top 3 spot. 1. It's Not Easy to Write a Love Song - Obviously, I knew this would be your 1st place. I really don't expect this to win since - and I know you don't agree - it reminds me of Tattoo. I'm not alone in feeling that way so I'd be surprised to see this finish higher than 4th. I mean, LIttle Tot got 4th and it was a very different song from what she'd sent the previous year and what had won previously as well. (And to me, it was a much stronger song.)

    I meant to comment yesterday but accidentally fell asleep prematurely and then I almost forgot tonight. Anyway, here's what I thought about the snippets and what I thought about them after. 6. Banne maj - I wasn't too crazy about the snippet but I thought it had potential. And the performance was fun, but not very strong vocally and the song was quite repetitive. 5. Light - I didn't love the snippet but thought the song had potential. After seeing it live, I was quite surprised this was nearly a 'DTF' song. I wonder if they had done the second chance round like they normally do if it still would've made the final. I think it would've been close but I'm not sure since Froken Snusk and Circus X were so popular. (I know you brought it up somewhere else and I cannot agree more that I hope they never do this format again since any songs from the last heat have a gigantic advantage.) 4. Back to My Roots - Country music, blech. This was my least fave of the clips and while I thought it was a decent performance, I really did not want to see this make the final. It never would've in any other year. That format change is horrible and I'll say it again, I hope they never do this again. 3. Que sera - You remember their song from 2022 being one of my absolute faves, right? The snippet seemed kind of generic so I wasn't super enamored but I figured I'd like the performance. Well, I did, but the song is so much weaker than their previous song. It's kind of generic sounding. 2. Controlla - Good snippet. She got really screwed with the running order. Why would they have her perform right after M&M? That was really unfair. Anyway, quite liked the performance and was really hoping she'd get a second chance spot. 1. Unforgettable - You know my thoughts on the snippet and the full performance so I won't repeat myself. I'm glad this was your fave of the heat, anyway. My ranking: 6. Jay Smith - Back to My Roots 5. Elecktra - Banne maj 4. Annika Wickihalder - Light 3. Chelsea Muco - Controlla 2. Medina - Que sera 1. Marcus & Martinus - Unforgettable My ranking did not change after the performances.

      It seems like Light would have qualified for the finals anyway (even if the second chance round was one week later), considering that she did quite well in the final, including in the televote. But I am not sure about Jay Smith, though. I think Light and Fröken Snusk would have been qualifiers if the old system were used. Anyways, yeah, fingers crossed they don’t use this new system next year, since it was more than obvious that the heat 5 participants had a massive advantage from it. Yes, I do remember that you liked Medina’s song a lot in 2022, and I also prefer it over their song this year. That’s part of why I am so surprised they finished 2nd this year. Controlla was good live. It’s my third now (since Light grew on me a lot), but yeah, coming after M&M was harsh. However, I don’t think she would have qualified for the second chance anyways.
