The epic battle between a herd of Elation Rayzor Q7s and a Canon Vixia M50. Or maybe between Chris Buford (on lights) and Carter Gravatt (on mando). Who shreds more? Hard to say.

Carbon Leaf - The 12-13 Desperation Mashup

Desperation in several venues! Cold-ass river stone! Jon Markel's laughter is my light! No retiming! Only two cutaways! Free exclamation points for everyone!

This one features the appearance of Scott Terry Clark, a blazing guitar duet with Carter and Gibb Droll, and Barry leading the audience in some beautiful Wild Side backing vocals.

In which we learn the etymology of "mandolin" according to Carter, and get a glimpse of the mysterious Phil Baker. Or do we...?

This is the song that got me into Carbon Leaf. J saw them performing it when she walked onto the Ledo deck during Ships & Dip III, and that was that. Like so many CL songs, Barry sets me up and Carter knocks me down.

From Woodstock Night on The Rock Boat 13. Carbon Leaf, Red Wanting Blue, The Alternate Routes, Brandi Carlisle, at least half of Swear and Shake, Amy Gerhartz and Brian Fechino. Cause if you're gonna cover The Weight, you should have all your friends there. Apologies for the camera sound and roll instability (no board sound or monopod this time).

Unless they did it in Miami before the cruise, I think this is the first time they played this song out. Not the best venue for that, but with Billy working his ass off to keep the sound in control it works. Rock it, Billy, rock it like the wind! And almost everyone remembers that the last chorus is different.

A song from the new album (Ghost Dragon Attacks Castle). From The Rock Boat 2013, on Tuesday, which was White Night (wear your whites to show off your scary sunburn). Jon gets to sing "l-ve"!

A song so new it isn't even on the new album that just came out a couple weeks ago. The video includes a clumsily pasted on bit of them talking before the previous song, since that provides the setup for the joke about Terry's beard. Photo of Dunscaith Castle by John Allan.

Very nice! Is that Tom Scott on sax?
Why the guy wash his hair ? I thought the water is for drinking .
Just incredible
Great song, I'm surprised they haven't hit the top 10 by now!
We saw them last night in Portland Maine! They are amazing, this is a great video. Thanks!
Thanks. I saw them in Portland once, in 2010 I think, at an arts festival there.
Thanks for uploading this. This is one of my favorite songs. Wish they'd pull it out a little more often.
Thanks so much for posting this. Such a fun night. I believe this was the second song after Toy Soldiers, great way to start the show!!
Genius! Billy and Bu really are the BEST!
I can't recall exactly, but I think it was about ¥4000 for the day. The one I got was large enough for me (I'm 190 cm tall), and a very nice bike. Sturdier than a true road bike, but lighter than the cyclocross I have at home. I was very happy with it. And they gave us free water bottles too.
how much does it cost to rent from the giant shop?
Another ridiculously fun song! Thanks guys!
Thanks! I wasn't super happy with my framing on this one, but I so love this arrangement that I posted it anyway. Glad you like it.
Thanks for posting this. Nice job of zooming out and keeping the whole band in frame, you can really watch them playing off of each other.
Nothing wrong with the camera work, nor the sound. Thanks for sharing. Great to see all these kids jammin' to a classic.
Thanks. Audio is from the sound board, so it's Billy who makes it great. I paid 20 bucks for it, but you can get it (the whole show) for half that now, from their website.
Very nice! Great audio.
Thanks for posting. Just can't beat these guys live. Looking forward to DE show this weekend.
Thanks everyone. Glad to bring some of the fun to people who couldn't be there!
Pretty darn epic - lots of my favorites on stage. Thanks for capturing for all us landlubbers.
love this song and you're right it's very Last Waltz-like! Just watched the Love For Levon concert on tv, awesome!
Nice, Last Waltz like version with the vocal trading. Looks like a great place to be, love the moon on the water at the start.
Well you know Woodstock was totally full of cell phones, right?
lol looked at all those cell phones
Exactly! Specifically, Psycho.
Plays out like the trailer for an Alfred Hitchcock film.
this is the most amazing thing ever. ever.
It's a Canon Vixia M50. The sound is from the MP3 stick that the band sells after the show, which is recorded straight from the board. Although the camera sound is really good too (and is totally free of zoom motor noise, even in a quiet location). Also, I wasn't even shooting at maximum quality!
Yep, that's one of the reasons I love the band. I saw all four of their end of year shows and each one was different. I asked Jason how they decide who's taking what solo when, and yeah, it's basically on the fly. This is how music should be!
Don't see a teleprompter helping with the lyrics either. I was lucky enough to be there, no 2 shows are the same with these guys! Thanks for posting.
Well, I don't know if it's actually in rotation, as such. They only played it Friday, not any of the other three shows last week. But we can hope. And you can thank Billy and Chris for the sound; I bought the MP3 stick and used that!
It's back in rotation!?! I've waited years to hear this live...maybe now I can finally actually hope to hear it! Great sound on this, btw!
Thanks! Unfortunately I didn't film Troubles. RHL says "no cameras" so I didn't want to bring my monopod (Billy did tell them recording was okay, but I didn't know that before I went.) So I only filmed a couple songs. Troubles I just sat back and enjoyed!
Well done!
Tks for the info, and thanks for posting! Very fun day. Good show,as usual.
Console feed. Specifically, the concert recording MP3 stick (which doubles as a beer opener! best thumb drive ever!) that they sell at every show now. Turns out the camera sound is almost as good (Vixia M50), but has a lot more crowd noise. Cause it's outside, and Billy Ferguson is second only to Robin Billinton as a FOH guy. Actually the camera sound is in this mix at "70%", whatever that means (hey iMovie, learn about dB, eh?)
Great sound, what did you use to record this?
