Women must learn to leave & choose. Maggie must have chosen Philip instead of Tom. Why to let him affect her decisions? Has he ever cared for her as much as she does? Has he ever tamed his ways because of her? He clearly never prioritized Maggie's happiness. She should have done the same! Women are trained to give too many fucks about their useless male relatives!!

Good film but the ending was foolish!

48:00 this guy really is as big a fool as the lawyer makes him out to be if he thinks that way about " luck ". Luck is only a bad thing if you overleverage your swings and if you have to beg, steal, or borrow to back up your bet when the swing is going in the other direction. Luck could make you very rich if you put it all in and luck goes your way but luck always finds it's way back to a median and to get there it has to take the gambler into a bad luck stage that will destroy any over leveraged trader ( eventuallyyyyyyyyyyyyy.... ) This guy likely thinks that he has to bet the farm on every venture and should his bet fail ( on a luck factor ) then others are to blame for his shortcoming. Just another example of a gambler looking to play in games that are too big for his pockets. Was it Guest or Wakem who called him a fool because of his inability to adapt to the changing conditions of time and technology - from water powered mills to steam powered mills ? The whole era was about the ability of invested groups to adapt to the paradigm change which involved steam engines and iron roads and by the 1830's to the early form of internet ( telegraphy ). Imagine what might have happened to the aristocratic bloodlines who made fortunes from the labor of slaves if they hadn't adapted to the coming factories which became a norm after the plantation era. Imagine what would happen to the money barons and companies of today if they did not adapt to the potential transformation of change that could come from the introduction of crypto currencies !!! The art of survival is the art of adapting to change. Good movie !!!

This is terrific. I hated the book (read 50 years ago) but this made the thing human. Incredible performances, great adaptation. THANK YOU!

Not quite a classic, but this is still a cute comedy and satire of both quiz shows and the early days of TV. Vincent Price is a hoot and steals every scene.

Well that was a colossal waste of time, this was a silly stupid story.

Won’t watch Emily Watson. She bit the hand that fed her.

This was a very good Movie. Sad ending. The bond between her and her brother was too strong, that in the end, she chose to drown with him. Throughout the movie, I felt it was a sort of incestuous theme holding her to this sort of duty to the bitterness the father held and passed onto his son. She was caught in the middle of wanting her own freedom as a woman to be happy as her first love Phillip was telling her, then the second love Stephen Guest. She chose to miserable. She wasn't strong enough to break those chains. The frailties of human emotions.

Je ne me lasse pas de regarder encore et encore toutes les émissions de Jimmy Guieu lui c'était un Grand Homme un vrai, il n'avait pas peur de dire la vérité, il allait sur le terrain, Il ne resté pas assis derrière un ordinateur à faire des recherches. Bien dommage qu'il soit plus sur cette terre et tout ce qu'il avait dit à l'époque est vrai. Il ne faut pas oublier Roger aussi !
