To bad Canadians did not have more rights to protect our privacy.. The cops can pull you over when driving with no traffic violation, just to see if you have a license.. I think the law should be changed, so you shouldn't have to show your ID. Or license until you violate a law. It would be more aligned with j walking, riding your bike on a sidewalk etc. JMO....

Never give cops I.d. unless required by law, ie. While operating a motor veichle. Passengers on a car are jotmlegally required same goes for pedestrians. As on poster said if we do not exercise our rights or stand up for them then we deserve no rights.

Thanks for the information. I wondered if I were trespassed from a business if I was required to show ID to the police in Alberta. Seems the answer is yes. This is definitely different from some American states. Although we share similar values and laws with Americans there are important differences.

There are tons of clips regarding the legal rights of people when to show or not to show their IDs in the US on social media, they are very educational. Unfortunately, there are not enough clips regarding this matter for Canada. This clip was very general and did not cover all scenarios, particularly when the police approached you (traffic or non-traffic). I believe, if you create as much content as possible to go through all scenarios, it will help many people how to protect their legal rights.

cops in canada do not know the charter, when the legislators ignore and infringe on the charter the police will enforce laws that they should not because they also do not care about the charter and the corrupt courts will back them up. so i have lost all respect for our police and court system

Wonderfull Canadian fairy tales that offer no usefull advice. It drives me nuts listening to lawyers telling us propaganda that they learn in law school that has very little relevance in the real world. It should go like this, most cops are trained to break the law, if they don' t like you, you will have evidence fabricated against you, I noticed you swerving in the traffic, when you were not, you failed to come to a complete stop, that is you stopped for .3 of a second instead of a fu ll 3.00 seconds. Then that moves on to illegal searches and next thing you know a cop finds drugs when there were none. A cop could also find a firearm that was not in your car before the stop. When the charges go to court, the crown may not provide full disclosure because that might incriminate the police, the police call their go to crown attorney who gets the trial co-ordinator to assign the most corrup judge in the court house. If you live in Ottawa, the worst of the worst, is the Ottawa Police and the most notious fabricator of evidence is Sgt. Peter VanDerZander, you can watch him on youtube on the 5th estate claiming to be a victim. The Ottawa Police are "organized crime", their target , anyone who criticises the Ottawa police culture of criminality. Sgt Peter VanDerzander has told other officers to fabricate evidence, who did, then fabricated evidence to justify their illgal arrest, then every superior officer in the Ottawa Police fabricated that they saw nothing improper, even when other officers did. This goes to the very top , to the former Chiefs of the Ottawa Police who know its bad so they pick someone to be the fallguy or fallgirl to investigate complaints of criminal offenses by police. The reality is, the Ottawa Police refuse to take almost any complaint about criminal conduct by police and refer people to the Ontario police complaints which is for police to white wash complaints and that makes Ontario cops like the Ottawa Police the most despised and hated cops in the country.

All sounds great ....BIG BIG PROBLEM the courts will nearly always throw out any punishment to the cops..In court they might drop the case but the citizen has gone through jail hassle and time to appear in court . Cops win cause you might not get a record but they know they will always get away with abusing your civil rights.

LMFAO! This kind of advice only gets people up Schitt's Creek. Do you want to know how much of this sunk in to most people? Oh, good I don’t ever have to show my ID if I have done wrong. Even if suspected of a crime I know I am innocent, so I don’t have to show ID. I can tell the police to F off, if I KNOW I have done nothing wrong, even if I fit the description of someone who just committed a crime and they are actively searching for. I know I’m not that person, so I don’t have to prove I am not that person. What are the results? Something that could have been resolved in about five minutes ends up a confrontation, tempers flare, police get sick of the whole thing and decide to take someone in until they can identify and confirm they are not whom they are looking for. Person resists tempers fly, a cop gets punched, or the person gets hurt. How about this? Hey you want to save yourself a lot of time wasted, possible charges for nothing. The police ask for ID, you have nothing to hide because you have done nothing wrong. SHOW THEM YOUR FU@KING ID AND BE ON YOUR WAY.
