Wow. I always try to give things a chance but watching this episode was a total waste of time. It's so obvious why her interview brought in less views than other interviews/episodes on this channel in the same series. The unnecessary gesticulations were distracting and annoying and I wondered all throughout what was the reason? Does she have a medical condition which induces that? Or is she just trying way too hard to make us believe that she is actually interested in what she is talking about? Or both? Not even the kids I know gesticulate so much when making what are supposed to be (at least in her mind) important points. I also wondered how she is in one breath saying she sought out people to mentor her (namely Dr. Morrison) as she transitioned to the new field then in another breath talks about having things being organic and not practically running into people for a particular purpose like a vulture. But is that not what she essentially did/had to do to make the transition to this new field? She obviously wouldn't have wanted to seek her mentor(s)out/run into them had she not wanted to connect with them for the purpose of making the transition into the new field. So in a way she did stalk them out like a vulture. She's obviously confusing and confused on this point though. Additionally, I'm from Jamaica and hardly hear about this doing anything much to educate the populace on what exactly is Clinical UX (something she supposedly loves so much and is so interested in) and how it can be leveraged as a solution to many of the issues plaguing the public health sector in Jamaica. Most Jamaicans won't actually see videos like this one (even though it was hardly informative and in another video she appeared in relating to Clinical UX, she shared basic information that I, a non-doctor, could have easily uncovered , through investigative research, by speaking with not even a few junior doctors for less than one week) on certain platforms because they simply aren't going to visit them. I mean why not write an article about Clinical UX--something she claims is so important? Most people (especially in Jamaica) don't have a clue what UX/UI design is far less Clinical UX. Had I not been introduced to it through someone's writing, I would not have known that such a thing existed or that it was so important. Those are just a few of my thoughts and observations about this episode, and I had way more comments about it but to only mention a few. The episode with Nick was way better for a number of reasons and unsurprisingly so.

I have been subscribed to Schusterian Logic for a bit but somehow I missed this series. This was a really interesting conversation with Nick . I learnt a lot and left feeling really inspired by his story. He is truly amazing!...Like seriously, for someone to make such a significant transition professionally from one totally unrelated filed to another totally unrelated field is just awesome. From a truck driver to a cyber-security professional. Wow...just wow. It honestly makes me feel like anything is possible :)

Great advice for folks - when hiring self-taught devs / boot campers it can be powerful to have a background skill-stack that aligns. Was recently hiring for an e-commerce company with a fulfillment and customer success process. The boot camp grad we hired had 10 years in brick-mortar retail as a store manager. Handling in-store shipping etc, and that background was impactful in understanding the business my client was building. 👍

I love that the heavy from tf2 was used for the model of a T-shaped person. Hearing that it's ok to spread out more and learn a little bit of everything, which is what I find indulgent and more fun than grinding away at one skill in tech anyway, is actually a good thing and a confidence booster. I've been delaying learning some technologies just because I feel like I should be going harder in another one first and really polishing what I know. I may hit them sooner knowing all this. I don't have a ton of work experience because of my health history, so it's an added challenge to prove, but I know I'm an open person that's often getting invested into lots of different interests/skills and being parts of communities and talking about them. Also, sick all-might print in the background.

I have a completely different analysis of complexity (because I use complexity theory in my own business). It really has nothing to do with whether model is good or bad imo (Although the eskimo idea sounds hilariously bad for sure). But rather, whether the business model is setup as a linear, convergent, or divergent model. For example. You sell 10 banana's a day that you grow, outside your house for a dollar. This means you can at most make $10 dollars... This is a very linear...1 to 1 business model. Now you have a different kind of business model... where instead, you are selling a platform in which individuals can grow their own bananas to sell them at their own houses, and you get a cut from every banana ever sold on this platform. This means that, by creating this one platform, if you had the same number of customers as before (10) then you can make 10x10 the amount of sales and your business model is now a 1 to 10 exponential model. The more people on this platform, the less your cut needs to be in order to make the same linear profit. 100 customers, means you only need 1% cut in order to make the same amount of money as the previous linear model. Another kind of business models, are convergent models...models that actually lose money. Hard to think of one...but a charity is probably a good example of a model that doesn't make money directly, but only consumes it. The reason i would classify it as above, is because it shares similarity with growth rates that you would see in population models. At 1 to 1 the population is stable...below 1 to 1 the population eventually dies...above 1 to 1 and the growth is exponential. Complexity comes in when your 1 to 1 linear model can either have a small number of components, or a large number of components and still be 1 to 1. However, a divergent business model, relies on the fact that it has to have large number of components. The more users on the platform, the more bananas being sold, the more money you make. Likewise with convergent models, which strangely enough rely on the exponential nature of the problem in order to work. A charity needs a large number of people to donate to them in order to function. But umm, aside from my point of view on the problem which i think others will find helpful, I think your video is very helpful too in terms of information complexity.
