How to fix crazy paving with Kintsugi
how to kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi) your garden - the crazy paving edition.
Here we look at fixing tree root damage where the path has been lifted up, which requires a concrete fill in , a sharp sand and cement base followed by builders sand and cement plus glitter paint additive to give it that kintsugi look and feel. This is a worlds first, an experiment so if I were to do it again I'd probably add the glitter later into the cycle. This is why we experiment and learn!
The idea here is that repaired crazy paving need not look ugly. So, kintsugi with similarities to the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi an embracing of the flawed or imperfect. Also known as Kintsukuroi

Hello, your movie was very handy. I had also need to exchange the glow plugs in my seat alhambra 7n. Unfortunately you were right that the 3rd glow plug from the left is different then the other ones and indeed it is much more expensive. In my case around 180 eur pcs. The part number of this different one is VW-AG 03L 905 061 g. My engine model is 2.0 tdi 184 HP. This 3rd glow plug cover was also much more difficilult to disconnect at least for me.

Have spent an hour cleaning all the reachable bits but think tomorrow I’ll have to take it apart to investigate. If you loosen both ends first then do the middle the boards are less likely to split. The blocks can usually be knocked off with a few taps from a lump hammer afterwards. There are much better ballet breakers available for around £30-£40 on that well known auction site. They usually look like they are homemade typically 100cm long, sometimes painted sometimes not and are welded together. Much tougher than the roughneck and vevor breakers. Even though they are often a bit shorter they are so much stronger they make it much easier to break up pallets although you will still come across the occasional pallet with extra wide boards or damaged timber that doesnt split cleanly.

Nice one, mate! What annoys me about many of these devices is the lack of spare parts. I have a couple of solar lights on which both solar cells died, just out of warranty. Can't replace just the panels, supplier says to just chuck it and buy new, even though the batteries, circuitry and LEDs are perfectly fine. I had to buy some similar sized solar cells and do a hack to make them fit, but they work. Right to repair, hmmmm. I wish the companies that make and sell these could be held accountable for creating unnecessary e-waste. Good to see that there are like-minded people like you and I that will repair the thing instead of chucking it into the tip. Just a tip, use a plastic spudger or cheap guitar pick to prise the plastic parts, not a metal screwdriver. And get a magnetic tray for your screws so you don't lose them 🤣

Yeah great question. Original motivation was I had dwindling wood supplies and had left over sawdust and coffee grounds. Free firewood beats this everyday, but it's not always possible. The video motivation was from people asking me how I did it and wanting to help others and also anything to reduce the demand on natural gas from Russia given the war in Ukraine.

I know your hand wasn't on the trigger but if anything accidentally bumps or presses on that drill button whilst you are doing it you run the risk of broken or severely injured fingers. Always power drill off first - preferably remove the attachment completely to be sure.

I watched another similar channel and he let the pulp and coffee sit in the bucket for 2 months. He said that the end result was a much harder better burning brick/log. He said he had experimented extensively.

Sounds interesting. Though I have not the space nor time to participate in that particular experiment.

Thank you so much for this video! I successfully fixed my Aeron chair arm with a 1/4-28 x 2.5 inch bolt from my local hardware store. Bolt was $0.49. :) Thank you for helping me not have to buy a new chair!

Thank you for your informative videos, they fit my desire to recycle everything and live frugally. It appears that coffee logs will smell nicer with no other significant advantage for heating. Here's the question..... in my humble home we drink as much Tea as Coffee, can i substitute tea leaves for Coffee Grounds? Will it just be an odour difference and really just adding an adding ingredient to the Briquettes with no real benefit? Cheers and thanks again, Steve

Thanks Steve. Great question. Coffee doesn't really smell when burned in "used grounds" form as a coffee log. So I would be surprised if tea does... However yes you can definitely burn tea. Go for it! You'd need to be drinking a heck of a lot of tea as tea uses fewer grounds than coffee. 1Kg of coffee would last a month. How long would 1kg of tea leaves last? I'd imagine a few months.... let me know how you get on though and good luck

@RobTheFrugalist Thanks Rob, I drink a lot less Coffee than I used to, Doctors Orders!, but I'm in a house of professional Tea drinkers. I wouldn't have enough of either to add them to all the briquettes but just the occasional batch. We're moving back into a house tomorrow having been Bus dwellers for a while but I'm already thinking about heat prepping for the winter. I'll let you know if Tea has good "bonding " qualities, but in a week or two.

Good luck. Make sure you have a soldering iron on standby the wires don't have much give. Also there is a spring that needs to be tensioned which holds the lid up. Good luck. Let us know how you get on...

This is great. I've got all the pieces around here. Need so make a screen. Nicely done. I was going to make a press for doing bricks, but this will be less fabrication. I have plenty of other projects :)

For my paper Bricks I use cardboard boxes (ripped into roughly 15x15cm pieces) and let them sit in water for 2 days, then if you shred them with a paint/cement mixing tool you get a great pulp only the grey newspaper and other recycling paper works that good because the fibres are already shorter then new paper I think.

Good call mixing the paper pulp before adding the wood, but I think the fibre of the wood would be much easier to compress and bind if you soak it for 2 days or even longer. But your results are awsome so if it´s not necessary you can save the time... maybe next batch leave enough for 1 brick lying around for a few days and see the difference? I´m all out of sawdust so I can´t make more this year.

Hello, just discovered your ideal for coffee logs, another way to recycle used coffee grinds. Wondering if you combined different elements with-in the coffee logs which might increased burn time or intensity? ratio of charcol to coffee, paper, sawdust, particularly Fatwood or pine byproducts. I am going to try coffee grinds and wax in empty tuna cans vs cardboard and wax.

Let me know how you get on! I did start playing with ratios here ruclips.net/video/i0BTpGVa14o/видео.htmlsi=1koxetgHVNH0uEvX but not tried different types of sawdust as its simply my sawdust byproducts which I don't have a choice with. Charcoal I tend to put straight on the fire. Wax I am not a fan of. Especially if it costs. But dont want wax on the inside of my flu could he asking for trouble (but perhaps its fine though I just think of the insides of old churches and candles)
